I will give it a rent for sure, but after Halo 3, I'm a bit burned out on the whole "Halo" scene. Still, the multiplayer looks like fun to try with friends locally for a weekend or so.

So yes, I'll be giving it a try.

The game is actually decent, apart from the inclusion of jetapacks which came in after Dark Voids, and that half the ships and infrastructure look like things out of a Mass Effect games, everything else is fine.
I know, I, for one, am looking forward to making Spartan-Boba Fett. Wait...Boba Fett is better than any old Spartan! Hey, video-game industry! I want a goddamn Boba Fett game!

As for the hype it will live up to? I know it will live up to mine. I've learned to not expect too much, but from what videos I've seen...it's gonna be juicy.
Will Jango Fett do?

Ermmm...well, it's not EXACTLY Boba Fett, but it's fairly close.

I would disagree the ships look like stuff out of Mass Effect, but even if that was the case, it would be the other way around.

I don't know, OP, but I'm certainly looking forward to it, it'll likely wow me.

If you actually saw the work being done on some of the assets (especially 'broken suff') they look like sleek space-crafts out of either a Star-Wars or Star-Trek game, but with all of that 'dark colors' to be found in the Mass Effect games.

Basically, what they had in several places in ODST.

They might be a minority, and only a few, but it still doesn't stop the trebuchet feeling of being moved from the hard gungy Starship Troopers feeling to a 'space opera' feeling.

We'll know when it comes out.

And no game lives up to the hype. No game.

And no, not even Duke Nukem will live up to the monumental hype its built.
Well, I think Duke Nukem has created counter hype. Hell, if it comes out like they said nowww, it will have far exceeded the hype really.

It's quite scary if all the Duke Nukem fiasco were actually orchestrated to generate the "counter hype" you spoke of.

Do you think....Blizzard might be doing the same thing with Starcrat:Ghost?

Maybe. From what I've seen it's pretty fucking amazing. If the beta is anything to judge on, I'm gonna go ahead and say yes. Let's just hope the story is as good as the multiplayer.

No game has ever done that.
Ever.

Oh, and there's totally not a hidden message in this post.
Especially not at the top of it.
I think Metro 2033 exceeded it's hype, because there wasn't any. (Awnser to your hidden message: Doubt it)

I very much doubt it will manage to reach the expectations of the hype, but I think there is no doubt that it will be a great game that gets played a LOT by me and my friends as well as many people online.
However because it is a Halo game and a successful mainstream action title, it isn't going to withstand all the angry hate it gets from people who either flat out dismiss it or write it off or delve deeply into it looking for stuff to hate. The problem with being a mainstream hyped up game is that you leave yourself as a massive target to a horde of elitists who will then go all out to make out the game to be the worst endeavor of human history.

Just to be clear, I have no problem with people merely not liking Halo but the people who have nothing better to do than rag on it endlessly I find no sympathy. But the fact remains, Halo: Reach, like all hyped games is destined to probably be damn good but not perfect and given its status as a 'mainstream shooter' is probably going to receive a good portion of aggressive hate.

I disagree. Starcraft 2 lived up to the hype for me, but that's because i played the original game and expansion to death and i loved the sequel. I'm still playing the pants off it now and am starting to get good at the multiplayer (seems i'm a zerg player at heart... go figure) which is and has always been the best part of the Starcraft series. I think the same holds true to Halo. Those who have played halo to death will love Reach, especially those who played the online obsessively. Say what you want about the fanbase and key demographic but they are the ones who will love Reach and play it endlessly. Living up to the hype always seems to rest on the multiplayer as its that experience that is the true test of a game's staying power and appeal to many people.

Will Reach live up to the hype on single player? No, it probably will not as was the case for all the halo games before it with the exception of the first. Nearly every halo game got slagged off for a mediocre single player experience, i know gamespot for example thought halo 2 was a big pile of 'meh' and most people seemed to lose interest in halo 3's single player campaign in favour of the multiplayer experience. ODST may be the exception to this rule but this does not count as it had no MP component save for firefight and that was a bit of a dark horse in the series with different gameplay mechanics.

TL;DR: Yes it will live up to the hype but for the fans only. To the rest of the gaming community probably not. The MP will be what really sells it to players though and people will likely complain the single player is lackluster.

The multi-player will live up to the hype. Bungie is great at designing balanced, competitive and FUN MP. (though slow paced compared to MW 2) I think the campaign will be better than a lot of the naysayers think. Though I read the books and loved the story of reach and how the spartans fought to the death to defend it from the Covenant.

No game lives up to the hype. Ever. And it's peoples fault for that. We expect perfection, yet perfection is an impossibility.

That being said, the hype was damn effective. How effective was it? This game has restored my faith in the Halo franchise. I might have gotten it if i had an 360.
