Is handheld gaming underrated?

For various reasons, I never played Castlevania:SotN, Xenoblade Chronicles, Tales of the Abyss, and most of the 8-bit Megaman games when they first came out. Thanks to re-releases and old game shops, I can play them again. While they can also be played on a console, I have always preferred the portability of handhelds.

In the last 10 years people always ask, "What happened to JRPGs?".
I keep telling people that if they want to play a JRPG all they need to do is get a handheld.

One isn't better than the other. Handhelds do different things for me.

I'm playing through Dark Souls 3 right now on my PC and frankly I need a break from my PC. I need to lay down on the couch and relax and play some Pokemon while watching some procedural on Netflix or Hulu on my TV.

It's like Sex vs Blowjobs. I usually prefer sex but I don't want a world without blowjobs.

I think truly great handheld games get overshadowed by over-marketed home and mobile games. Most people do seem to focus on home games but in the past few years I've probably played more games on the DS and 3DS than any other platform. I would admit to being in the minority when I say that games like Link Between Worlds and Kirby's Triple Deluxe are the best in their series and I know that NOBODY would agree with me when I said that Smash Bros on the 3DS is more impressive than the Wii U version*. It might be easier to just use your phone than try keeping up with a dedicated games console that can fit in your pocket but again...I'm in the minority when it comes to preferring and wanting that kind of thing.

From a technical standpoint, I'm deeply impressed by the sheer amount of content Smash 3DS has. It's keeping pace with the Wii U roster, it has a lot of really good levels and really the only thing I'm missing are more game modes. The difficulty isn't as harsh either which is another reason I strongly Smash 3DS

The JRPG part is defiantly true. It makes up most of my handheld gaming library (DS and 3DS.) Can't wait for the Dragon Quest games.

Yeah you got a point since the only games I look forward to it now on the 3DS is just Fire EmblemL Fate and Pokemon Sun and Moon. While the next Monster Hunter game look cool but I should really stayed away from it (I got no mates to played it with and I kinda struggle by myself when hundred has already say it's easy fighting the higher tier monsters).

I may buy FF explorer but I'm not too keen on it.
