Wow allot of people didnt read much more than the OP. You know when you got the sarcasm right when 3/4 of everyone that reads it doesnt get it.

I did enjoy the Necrophiliac bit. Thats something Fox news would pull.

FOX: "No hes not a detective he is a necrophiliac detective who eats ciggarette butts and its a kids game! its EEEvvviiilllll!!!!! Ban all games!!!"
Gamers: "Derp derp is all you said Faux news"
Fox: "No its all true, why would we make things up"
Gamers: "When do you not?"
Fox: "ummm...."

WHat did Fox say about Portal 2?
hyper realistic Robot potato sex sim? or something?
Nope- it alienates adopted people.

*EDIT*
Sorry, that's not Fox, that's just my (hopefully understandable) prejudice. It was actually WBTV. Sorry about that.
Is that seriously the best they could do? If you can't tell that the game is trying to be funny, then you need to go back to school... seriously... is that the best they could do?

SOMEONE CALLED YOU FAT!!

SOMEONE SAID YOU WERE ADOPTED!!!

if this happened ANYWHERE else it the world, the news wouldn't give them a second look.

The... the utter stupidity!

Ehh? - you know these games are usually rated 18 right? - on what planet is LA Noire a kids videogame, and you play as a detective, not a necrophaeliac.
Uh, this. I have no idea where you're getting your facts, OP. None of those games are marketed towards or intended to be played by children, and while I haven't played it, I seriously doubt that L.A. Noire's protagonist molests corpses.
The OP was teasing the issue that the fact of those games M or 18+ rating never stopped fear-mongers like FOX from claiming that they were for kids. Have we already forgotten the "Mass Effect virtual orgasmic rape simulator fiasco"?

Strangely interested in Mass Effect now.... Did I miss something?

Ok. Take "children's" out of every single description and then you're closer to the money.
But yeah, on what planet are any of those games "children's" games? Even Portal 2 can be pretty intense - sure, you don't use any firearms, but that's about where the G-rated bit ends.

And calling DNF a kid's game... Hahahahahaha, you really made my day.
Maybe you should've actually read the thread. Ahem. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poe%27s_law]

OT: Except for DNF, none of those games were marketed very much. Same with Witcher 2, Fox would've been all up in that shit if they had actually known about it.

Once a more popular "controversial" game comes out (see: MW3), then we'll see some more bullshit from them.

Looking over the past few months of game releases, I've noticed a distinct lack of controversy where I've been conditioned to think it's due;

L.A. Noire (a children's video game from the makers of Grand Theft Auto where you play an
*L.A. Noire spoilers*adulterer/murderer who fondles naked dead women.)

Duke Nukem Forever (a children's video game that encourages misogyny, swearing, violence, casual sex, substance abuse and gambling.)

Catherine (a children's cartoon video game in which the main character encourages children to sleep around and get drunk.)

Limbo* (a children's video game in which a small child is brutally killed in gory ways.)
*Yes, I know, it was re-released, I'm on a roll here.

Shadows of the Damned (a children's video game in which PENIS.)

Seriously, the last game news I heard from Fox was about Portal 2. Basically, I don't want to raise any hopes here, but is it over? The usual fearmongerers (Fox, Daily Mail et al.) have been inordinately quiet these few months. I'd have expected to hear at least something, or is it just me? Am I just not looking hard enough, or is this about usual for controversy?

Or maybe, is there something else to be scared of now?

*EDIT*
Since it's clearly not clear enough, the descriptions of the games are satire. I know full well none of those games are intended for children.
Seriously, I think Rupert's marionettes at Fox just feel that if they spend this much time targeting homosexuals as harbingers of the apocalypse that it will be easier to discredit them as the soulless opportunistic assholes that they are. And since video games aren't human beings with feelings, it's easier to scapegoat them so the blonde guy who isn't Steve Doocey can get his umbrage on. Also, to not awaken latent unresolved sexual issues within themselves.

huge!

Personally, I'd like to see all of Fox's talking heads replaced with X-men villains.

"We go now to Apocalypse, with that story on how hippies are turning your children into gay satanists."

When I entered this thread, and saw that people actually thought the OP was calling these children's games... I got a headache, kinda like brain freeze, only much, much worse.
Yea, I get the same kind of headache when I hear about Gamestop's quarterly profits.

OP- I think the reason is that it isn't a slow news time. There's a lot of real things going on and real stuff to be scared of so politicians and the so-called newscasters don't have to make up as much crap. We'll start hearing about it again when they have nothing better to do.

We can use that time however to come up with something new and horrible that they can yell about instead of video games. Perhaps a new offensive genre of music. Something that nobody will like but the kids (below voting age) have to really pretend to like it or it wont work. I'm imagining really high pitched singing of offensive lyrics with some sort of industrial grinding noise. Imagine the Infamous soundtrack as interpreted by Maria Carry. They can call it Cradle of Filth: and IT Crowd fans?

Otherwise games will be targeted again: as soon as something happens that will require politicians to convince (voting) parents that they can't be blamed for their (non-voting) kids being violent pricks.

I will say, I'm quite honoured- seems I'm a better actor than I thought. :D
Ah, well, in all honesty, it had more to do with a lack of faith in the average internet user.

Besides they completely missed out on the Norway guy saying he played Modern Warfare as part of his training regiment.
Meh, there were like 2 articles in Norway about it, then everyone just said "No, it's not the 80's anymore, you're gonna have to do better than that." 2 chains temporarily pulled certain games from the shelves (alledgedly out of respect), but since they deal in music and electronics (laundry machines and vacuum cleaners etc) respectively, I don't think this will be a big problem for the average gamer.

Fox News has been busy lately what with all the dead children sensationalism and the debt ceiling debate but when things slow down, I'm sure they'll return to 'moral panic' mode.
This is probably true. Sad, but true.

Just to throw in another person, before I saw the edit I didn't see the sarcasm. To be honest, I still don't really see it at all.

I know it's there, but I don't see it.

He;s saying that fox and the daily mail (basically Rupert Murdoch)always ignore these ratings and report everything as a salacious attack on our children.

That's what she said.

Also, I had quite a bit of faith in the Escapist crowd, it's the only consistently reasonable community I've seen on the internet, I thought others would think likewise and at least permit me benefit of the doubt.

Well, there's been a lot of vacationing going around, so perhaps the rabble-rousers have been occupied.

I'm also hoping that the increased solar radiation may have mutated them into people that make sense
