Is it better to keep silent or even lie to not ruin people's hope, or to be honest and dispel myths?

Your question is difficult to answer.

I think in the bulk, dependence on myth and belief without reason (that's first order reason for you nitpickers out there) is harmful to humankind.

But I think that for the individual, this is not necessarily the case.

Someone once told me: "You need some of everything to make a world". So I can just say: act when you think or feel you should.

Medicine is serious business. You don't fuck about with lies and half-truths with medicine. Ok, you shouldn't as a rule anyway, but especially not in this case.
Sometimes, especially with colds and a lot of psychological disorders, a placebo really is all you need though.

Alternative medicines by definition have not been proven to work, or...have been proven not to work.

I'd speak out against it. At best its misguided, it's often simply a scam, and at its worst it's getting in the way of actual treatment. I wouldn't let my loved ones put their eggs in the crazy basket without trying to convince them otherwise.
