i cannot look at that logo, say the name, or think of nintendo as sane with a straight face anymore. ever since the revolution was changed to wii, nintendo has announced an onslaught of bizarre what-the-fuckeries that make it impossible for me to take them seriously anymore.

*facepalm* I'm a great fan of Nintendo, but I do wonder sometimes what goes on in their heads... just why? Why of all names "WiiU?"
Do you not think it's for straight-up brand building via word of mouth? 4 years ago, there was no one who didn't know what a Wii was, game player or non-game player, thanks to its stupid name. But people didn't not buy it because of its stupid name, did they?
You might be onto something there... simple and easy to remember too, wouldn't have minded something a little more normal though.

In a year's time it will be normal. No one sniggers at Wii anymore, do they?

Can't we all just agree to call it the 'You' it will be easier.
That's even more confusing.

Person A "Could you get this game for U?"

Person B "For me? But I don't want it!"

A "No, I want it for U"

B "That's nice, but I don't like this game!"

etc. etc.

Yeah you're right it will just end up like the Albert and Costello sketch. 'Who's on First' xD

I did think of Abbott and Costello. And Yay, that's my favourite ever parody of it! It's very well done :D

well at least they didn't call it the Wii 2, cause in japan it'd be called the Wii ni :p

I get the reasoning behind it. But I really don't like the continuation of the brand... it just makes it feel like a cash in. That and I'm really annoyed that everyone is so impressed by a gimmicky controller and a company playing catchup 5 years in.

I see that as a collective audience we're already trying to reduce Nintendo to toilet humour again. I thought we'd gotten past this once everyone stopped sniggering at the name "Wii".

Honestly, the collective maturity of the gaming community disgusts me sometimes.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand then I look at your avatar, oh the irony.

OP: Thanks... won't be able to look at it the same way... ever...

How is my avatar in any way relevant? It's a simple yet ironic statement of who I am. Some might call it stupid, but at least I don't snigger at console names while making piss and dick jokes.

Hey, Ninty doesn't help. Remember how the Wii's successor was supposed to be named Stream?

I mean, Wii? Stream? Next what? Flush? XD

Anyways, the controller is shaping up to be pretty interesting. And I can confidently predict that the PS3's and XBox360's successors will have screens on the controllers as well, you just wait and see... '-_-
I know they did kinda shoot themselves in the foot, but it's just annoying how much people are focusing on the things the name sounds like or reminds them of. Here's Nintendo, one of the biggest (maybe even the bigget, I dunno) gaming companies in the world, trying to get back to hardcore gamers and the mature, serious hardcore gamers of the world are too busy sitting at their computers snickering about "it sounds like body functions tee hee hee."

It wouldn't surprise me if next E3 Microsoft has mysteriously abandoned Kinect in favour of touch-screen and Sony... actually Sony are pretty set, touch-screen wise at least, with the PSVita for now.

I mean, remember the rush that happened after the Wii brought motion controls to the dance? Everyone rushed out to get them too, however misguided such a move may be.
Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. Apart from the silly name, I think the streaming tech is rather neat, and if the controller is actually ergonomic, we may have a winner here. Wii's Achilles's heel was the lack of third party support, which isn't apparently the case for WiiU. Though Ninty should take care that this new feature is fully exploited, otherwise WiiU really wouldn't stand out with all these multiplatform titles.

Hell, I'm a PC gamer myself, and I've been spending the entire day sending messages back-and-forth with my other PC gaming friend GrizzlerBorno about possible gameplay implementations of the new controller. I think people should give this a chance.

Also, WiiU tell me how an ambulance sounds... ?
Sorry.

I'm surprised no one has posted the Kung Pow clip yet and pretended that it was their idea to quote it first.

Why are so many Escapists eager to act like ritalin'd up virgins?

"Excuse me, do you think that we'll evolve a three-or-greater-party system in our collective lifetime?"

"I dunnoh, but you're a ******! Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!"

People here need to lighten up a bit.

Don't take everything so seriously, it's a games console for God's sake. If people want to laugh at its name, let them.

Doesn't it look really similar to the Ubisoft Uplay logo?
Answer: Yes, yes it does.
