Dude, most games have always been shit. You just gotta search for the gems in the piles of shit.

It doesn't matter how much a game is liked by the general public, its your opinion. Don't just get games that are suggested by the media. [GTAIV *cough* *cough*]

you're never too old for games. I'm the same age as you and i'm still going strong. you need to sift through the shelves a bit, ask on the escapist for any decent games, (AFter all, this is a gaming site). seek and ye shall be rewarded.

It's. There are plenty of good games out now, either you're making terrible choices or you're just jaded.

I remember playing Baldur's Gate with an almost innapropriate fondness, but it doesn't mean I don't enjoy Mass Effect.
Exactly. I do think in terms of FPS though, we have been taking steps back. People are introducing (or not introducing) elements into games that we had a decade ago, e.g. everything in Perfect Dark. Quite frankly Challenge modes, Co-Op, hell even Counter Op should be a standard in FPS now.

New games = Graphics are everything
Old games = Fuck everything else lets just play.

Links awakening had amazing graphics (to me, I loved that game) and is still one of my favorite games ever because the story and gameplay went hand in hand not to mention being able to find all the little treasures.
Couldn't agree more. There were even cases where people didn't want flashy graphics, e.g. Perfect Dark (yes, I'm using this game again). Even Doak said something along the lines of "We had some great ideas, but the game was dog slow", because they pretty much ran the N64 to it's limit graphically.

Sometimes the publisher is to blame for a shit game.

IMO Crysis could've been made better. I can see a few obvious but little additions that could've made it a whole lot better. Crysis: Warhead made a good start but still missed some obvious additions that would've worked well.

That being said, I still enjoyed Crysis and Crysis: Warhead a lot. But they could've been better.

games are focusing to heavily on graphics as of late and not putting enough time into the game play aspects, therefore boring
This is what happens when publishers try to rush a game's release, not realizing that a better game = more freaking money!!!!! But no, they want a quick buck now, the greedy fucks.

You just THINK that it's true.

They were trying very, very hard to get good graphics. Which one forced a lot of people to buy their first GPU, again? Doom or Quake? I don't remember, but the second the GPU was released, graphics became very important.

It's only that just now we're getting almost photo-realistic games. For instance, look at the new Batman game. It has silly requirements (a lot lower than Crysis) and it looks gorgeous.

Old games were kinda better, I think. For the most part. Good original games are rare these days.
No, my friend, only the old games you remember are better. Name me some games made then (from memory) that were recieved as well as the Wii shovelware is today. Or 80's films recieved as well as My Bloody Valentine. At any time, 90% of games are shit, and people have been saying the 'Back in my day' thing since the dawn of time. I myself try to ignore nostalgie by not counting a game as one of my favourites unless I've played it in the last year or two.

It's just you. You're not too old for games, you're just either not currently interested or you're too jaded, which is kind of sad for a 15 year-old.

If you like ALL the first 4 Tombraiders, I can say without a doubt that it is NOT because your standards are high.

First, it's not just you, but you are in the minority I'd say. Also, a couple of hours on new games? Give them break, let it roll a bit. I love Crysis but I felt it was a bit slow to start with. Besides, you're not going to like every highly rated game (I played about 6/7 hours of Fallout 3 and nearly chewed my own arm off), and maybe you're not playing the games that are right for you. The latest Tomb Raider games have been average at best. You also listed 2 FPS's and a third person shooter in your 'tried to enjoy' list, but there are none (apart from CS) in the games you enjoy.

Just because graphics are getting better doesn't mean they're taking over game development.

No not exactly but it is kind of getting bland since everything has been done to death and the appeal slowly wear's off.

However the best games I have ever played are from yesteryear so I kind of agree with you.

Also you should do your best to not say a console sucks just because you don't like it. Seriously, you will draw in pissed off fans.

I can only offer one piece of advice to you: buy the Orange Box, Left 4 Dead, and Garry's Mod. Those games will restore your faith in modern gaming.

And yes, it's just you.

You know, I have the same problem nowadays myself. Except I've been playing since the NES. I think the problem is that most of the time modern games aren't doing anything new. Tombraider was fun back in the day because it was new and different (not to mention overly complicated controls (God I hated those controls)). Most of the time in the next gen we see the same old games in every genre doing the same things with shinier graphics and you have the "hardcore" boys running around talking like it's the second coming of Christ or something. It has been a while since something "new" has come out. I mean how many more times can I play Test Drive (most racing games), Madden (pick a football game), Final Fantasy (most RPG's), Unreal Tournement (what halo wishes it was), medal of honor (every world war 2 game), and Starcraft (what most RTS's wish they could be) over and over again. These were some of the earliest games from those respective genres I got my hands on and they were all pretty good, but I want to play them again I can. I'd just rather not have to keep forking over $40-60 for them. I just look for interesting story telling anymore.

You've just answered your own question then. If you don't like them, then it's just you, because clearly other people do like them.
