bunch of FPS crazed jarheads?

For instance, with the release of the new Dues Ex, I can buy them complaining about certain gameplay flaws, but something seems wrong with them giving the story a 7.8.

Of course this is GT.com were talking about, the guys that gave MW2 story a close 9 from what I remember. Now I'm not sure how the story is really going to turn out with Dues Ex. But I'm pretty damn sure it's going to be better than a D grade Red Dawn re-imagining which had the crowning achievement of dumbest invasion story I've ever head, that is until Homefront came out.

As a final note, no, I've never taken any of GT.com or IGN.com reviews for that matter serious. But I've amused myself on their stupidity in the past, and now I'm finding this annoying enough to make a thread about it here. -_-

Oh and yes, I ain't very fond of the CoD series really, sorry for the hate...:*(

Well I pretty much told you the empirical details, dumb shooter supposedly has better story than an RPG in the likes of Dues Ex. But here you go anyways.

I don't see the problem with it. They had perfectly legitimate critisisms.

Just because they aren't going "OMG!!!1!!!1 NERDGASM!!!"11!!1one!!" doesn't mean they are all idiots. It's called personal preference. Maybe the folks on GT just prefer shooters more?

Well the numbers are silly in every case, they only represent the reviewers personal preference which tells us nothing about the game, the review however does.

And it seems this was more of a critique then their standard "best game evar cuz it's new and we got a fat check in the mail" reviews, I wouldn't be surprised if Yahtzee does a similar bash fest.
And on that note, it's not like he doesn't have good points, just that he concentrated alot more on the faults then anything else in the game.

So I looked up some CoD reviews of theirs aswell and it's exactly what I said before, best game evar gush that praises the game for it's mere existance, do wonder how fat that check was.

Well, most game reviewers aren't really qualified for objectively critiquing narrative, so I wouldn't be too worried about that.

"bunch of FPS crazed jarheads?"

Funny, I was thinking about this too, but it had to do with this whole FPS console generation, not just GT.com. :p

OK I joke, but I think I have a point.

The really vexing problem is that deeper more ambitious games by their nature are going to have more criticisms possible about them. There's not much you can criticise about a simple linear game which is what most are. But something like fallout new vegas or alpha protocol, you could write a book of criticisms about them. Game reviewers are encouraging shallowness by giving out perfect scores to games like portal, uncharted, shadow of the colossus, braid, limbo and so on, while being hugely critical of narratively rich games like heavy rain and la noire.

If I could, I would +1 this.
If I could, I would like this.

If I could, I would force every game reviewer to look at this single paragraph and pray for them to understand its simple and straight forward truth.

I really didn't bother reading any other reviews after Steve Butts' reviewed it. He's top-notch in my book.

I love hearing people whine and complain about reviewers, saying if they didn't rate a game they loved high enough they must be biased, or if they give a high rating to a game they hate they must of been bribed. Why do people even bother reading reviews if they're not going to read them objectively and remember that at the end of the day it's just someone's personal opinion.

Sometimes personal opinions do differ, and sometimes will go against what the majority think. For example based on my personal enjoyment of them I would rate Dragon Age 2 fairly high and Half Life 2 rather low. Doesn't mean I'm biased preferring a particular genre or series though since I judged their predecessors differently with DA: Origins being rather average at best in my opinion, and the original Half Life one of my favorite games of the time.

Ur just a noob who cant handle teh awesumness.

Being serious for a second... is it just me, or is 7.8 a good score for a story? Even by today's scoring methods, 7.8 usually = worth playing through. Giving Call of Duty a higher rating is just something you've got to expect from review sites, they all do it (though I'm not going to try and explain it - it's very possible all the top reviewers just like Call of Duty) - comparing reviews of other games to it is futile.
