Is it just me, or has a lot of recent anime aged badly?

I think that anime that appear to age badly can be partially attributed to the fact that people's tastes/preferences can change over time. So what used to be awesome in someone's eyes may not be so a year or 2 later.

I think the problem is that you just don't like those animes. Never liked K-On but I thought Code Geass was really good. The thing is that everyone can't like every anime out there.

I had very few legitimate qualms about Code Geass, and they're all spoilers. Let's just say that a certain event that pushed the first season into its climax appeared completely spontaneous, like reverse Deus Ex Machina because there were absolutely no hints that it was coming. A good plot twist should make the viewer say "I can't believe I didn't see that coming," not, "I didn't see that coming."

Haven't watched season 2. Most of my free time is spent derping around on the Internet like the K-On girls in their club. *Sigh* I know something's wrong when I'm more interested in the F5 key than a good anime. Or a commission drawing. Or writing a story.

But you can't deny anime is looking better these days. Look at Persona 3 and 4.

They look fantastic.

Oh yeah, The Pokemon anime was only good in the Kanto region. That is all

DBZ Inuyasha and Evangelion are not recent. I like Naruto, if you avoid the filler, and Code Geass is also good, and really very different from V for Vendetta. Like a lot.

You're watching the wrong animes. Try watching Angel Beats or Gintama. Gintama is just pure hilariousness. Also, the anime you've watched makes it seem like you use Adult Swim for anime.

K-ON, is everything wrong with anime today IMO... taking a basic concept of a music anime that follows a band and watering it down into girls having tea for 90% of the show... because apparently that's what they think people want to see... and wait K-ON is only like 2 years old, how can it age badly if it's still considered recent? and actually what's up with the title? how can something recent be aged badly, something needs to be, you know, aged for it to age badly...
Maybe you're just not the target demographic for it?

I watched it all and I thouggt that it was good considering the lack of violence, robots or monsters.

I was looking back at some episodes of Inuyasha and I was thinking, "I stopped watching King Of The Hill for this?" Then I was looking at other animes and facepalming in disgust.

Here's my quick summaries:

Drangonball Z
- Ten percent high quality many action. Ninety percent time wasting involving screams, grunts and fighters lookingon instead of fighting.

Naruto
- Started out as nice little show about an annoying ninja (Naruto), then turned into an annoying show about an even more annoying ninja (Sasuke).

Inuyasha
- Basically the result of an overrated manga writer creating a high fantasy story based on the plot points from Monty Python And The Holy Grail and Super Mario Bros!

Neon Genesis Evangelion
- *yawn*

Code Geass
- Hey Lelouch, that guy from V For Vendetta just called, he wants to stop stealing his thunder!

K-On
- Congratulations! You've managed to make the Monkees seem cool to me again!

Air The Movie
- It's Moulin Rouge. The plot is basically a watered down Moulin Rouge. There, I just saved you two, long, ****less hours.

Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Bakugan
- Why are these shows still here? *cries*

But that's just me. Boy, I need to get a new screen name.
Hah hah hah... Silly man, you're chosen mostly easy targets - some of them NEVER good to begin with - out of a much wider range of anime.

In case you didn't know already, the Escapist allows you to change your screen name once without getting the mods involved. Just go to your profile, and one of the links (account information? I'm not sure) will allow you to change your name.

OT:

I've only seen the first three shows (in part, but I haven't watched the other series you listed at all), but they were all hurt by the same things: One, they were Shonen series, which puts them into a pretty specific niche (Fist of the North Star defined it, and DBZ refined it into what it is today). Two, they were all made while the manga was ongoing, which lead to a lot of filler that did nothing for the plot. There are fights in DBZ which take up multiple episodes of the show, but only a few panels of the comic. Naruto had an entire arc of filler, and Inuyasha got so far ahead of the manga that they actually stopped making episodes for several years, only coming back to finish the story recently. They probably aren't the best examples of what kind of show would age well.

Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon were pretty good for the first few seasons (Dragon Ball Z was ALWAYS awesome and still is but that's my inner fanboy talking) and for the time it was one Inuyasha was actually quite a good show. They've aged fairly badly though as they are less popular and aren't as good. The rest were always bad in my opinion...except Afro Samurai, Samurai Champloo and Rurouni Kenshin.

I watched it all and I thouggt that it was good considering the lack of violence, robots or monsters.
It's not the fact that it lacks violence, or that it lacks robots... it's the fact that it lacks anything that could possibly make it even slightly entertaining, even the one thing that was supposed to set it apart, you know the whole music thing feels like a half baked side plot... The characters were cookie cutter cliches, which is the worst possible thing you can possibly do in a slice of life anime... even something like Welcome To The NHK had a protagonist, while a complete asshole, he was at least relatable to a certain degree and complex enough to be interesting, despite the fact that it has thing single worst idea for a plot ever, you know being about a character who has no friends and never leaves his house, but it works because the character driving the story is believable and very humanly flawed, making him easy to relate to...

Worst of all is that it tries to pass itself off as a band or music oriented show, like Beck Mongolian Chop Squad, but it fails at this because of the fact that the music and the bands development take a back seat to watching the girls drink tea and do things that make Lucky Star look like Lords Of The Rings... it's just cutesy girls doing cutesy things... but even that isn't a completely unbearable setup because it's worked before in shows like Azumanga Daioh, due to the fact that the characters endeared themselves to the audience and have enough comedy and variety, despite the simplicity of the plot...

Lol at all the anime fans coming in to this thread and rushing to save their precious shows, seriously you guys respond in some way other than

"OMG DON'T HATE THAT SHOW IT'S AWESOME!!!"

The OP didn't say anything was bad just that the animation hasn't held up with todays standards.

OT: I'd agree with a lot of that actually, however DBZ is pretty old so comparing it to the more modern titles is a bit of a push.
One of my favourite animations was Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, it's done rather well and I hold it in high regard.
Story not so much but the quality is top notch.

There actually were some hints that it was coming, like
The conflict with Mao setting up the precedence of an always active power, and Lelouch's Geass acting strangely an episode or so before the massacre, when he is threatening a noble and almost commands the man to go home and kill himself.
In consideration to the OP: What is wrong with you blasphemer? How dare you sully the glory that is Code Geass? Even if only for a few moments of ill judgement, it is still inexcusable. Now I ask you this: What is the color of Loyalty?

idk, you cant really say that something hasent aged well because each person has their own idea about what makes an anime good(or watchable at the very least) i mean i consider Trigun to have "aged" well because i can still enjoy watching it after all this time(came out in 98' i think) same goes for many other animes like DBZ, Ranma 1/2,inuyasha,DNA²,Dessert Punk etc etc. but even though i still like watching them despite their age not everyone will.(like the OP who dosent like the animes that he first posted.)
