Lately I have been feeling that time is going by a little fast, and for some reason this saddens me, I feel like I havent made something of myself or done any thing in my entire life.
This is happening to you because you're doing the same stuff a lot. You've probably fallen into a bit of a routine. Your brain doesn't remember the 295th time you went to the store because it doesn't consider it important information. A lack of significant recent memories will give time the appearance of speeding up. Maybe start doing some radically different things and watch time slow down. Time also slows down heavily when there are things in your future that you're really looking forward to, so organise cool stuff to do ahead of time.
For someone who claims not to be a psychologist, that's impressive. Actually, you pretty much hit the nail on the head theory-wise.
A quick word about automatic vs controlled processing: if you do something a lot, it'll eventually become automatised, therefore taking up little to no attentional capacity, to the point where you might be unaware you're even doing it (example: when a driver with 40 years experience checks their mirrors every few seconds, they probably won't be aware of it). Anything new will require controlled processing, taking up much more attentional capacity, so you'll be focused on the task to get it done and therefore be more aware of it and the time it takes.
Long story short: if you're doing the same thing every day, you'll eventually become so used to it that you won't be paying anywhere near full attention, so you probably won't notice the time slipping away. Do something interesting every day and you'll be much better equipped to account for your time - not necessarily something new, just something that breaks the routine a little bit.
