Is it just me? Or is Tomb Raider more exciting than ever before?

The upcoming reboot.
YAY! LET'S REBOOT SOMETHING AGAIN SO WE CAN ANNOY THE OLD FANS AND BRING IN VOCAL NEW FANS.

AGAIN!

Pffffft. It's going to be a re-run of things they've tried before that didn't work - that will go the same way as every other reboot.

The only way to reboot something successfully is to remake it - I.E. To make something else.

Then it's not a reboot, it's just giving the same name to something wildly different.

Without the Tomb Raider name - which evokes the past "glory", then this new "Tomb Raider" wouldn't have a leg to stand on. It's just a rehash of new images made to appeal to people who didn't like the original - which will then follow a very similar route to the original.

Quite like your avatar. Which is a reboot of the My Little Pony phenomena, which only succeeded because it's competition was so lacklustre.

As a fan of the original series - it had its ups and downs but what series doesn't - I'm not looking forward to the reboot. Lara is a video game icon, and is in about as much need of deeper characterisation as Samus... oh, wait...

Yeah, I'm expecting this to be the Other M of Tomb Raider - i.e. hugely divisive and likely to be dismissed as discontinuity by many longer term fans. Besides, what are we actually seeing? A younger Lara... frightened, dishevelled, injured, moaning and whimpering all the fucking time, being stalked by some lunatic... oh yes, very empowering.

Oh and she starts the sequence tied up and helpless. Jesus christ.

And before anyone says "Oh that's just one stage", well sure, but it's also the first stage they decided to show the world.

No, I'm hating everything I'm seeing about this so far. Don't even get me started on the QTEs.

In summary, if this woman girl-in-peril shit is their idea of 'humanising' the character and giving her depth then no thank you, I'll stick with the real Lara.

I was quite fond of Tomb Raider: Legend, but I'm also looking forward to the reboot. I've been hoping for something to freshen up Lara Croft, so to speak, and this looks just the thing to do it. I'm definitely looking forward to this one. I just hope we'll eventually get to see her toughen up and the game won't end up along the lines of "oh look a sexy damsel in distress". A lot of games with female protagonists seem to like placing them in constant danger for those purposes. However, this Lara is a good deal younger than she was, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of a doubt.
