Is it natural to suck at SF4?

Normally I'm naturally good in fighting games. A while ago at a con, I tried guilty gear and I had a hard time pulling off some of the special moves in that game, but since it was old I didn't really care much for it. However the same problem reaccured in SF4, I find it nearly impossible for me to any of the super's or ultras. (Also how the hell are you supposed to use that red tornado guy, doesn't he jump before I can finish the 360 circle with the anolog stick). Forexample I'll take Ken, whenver I try to do his ulti/super I either do a modified haduken or a modified dragon punch. Has anyone encountered this issue before? Any suggestions? Should I give up on SF?

Street Fighter isn't your standard fighting game.

I remember when I started playing SFII:Turbo. I couldn't get through the game on the easiest difficulty.

Street Fighter is a one-of-a-kind series. Just keep practicing. Maybe play with your friends to increase the fun until you can get those moves down. Practice practice practice.

Fixed that up for ya.

But seriously, you can live without Street Fighter IV, and if you keep getting yer ass beat by the last boss, you don't suck, the computer's just a cheating fuck.

It's natural to suck at any game that you have no idea how it ticks.

While SF4 does promote the easy to learn, you will soon learn that pulling off the more technical moves are a lot harder this time around including the super and ultra moves. The speed and direct motion needed required is increased down to miliseconds where you will be canceling and faking moves to pull off those combos.
Eh...did you ever play SF2 ST? The super inputs are the exact same but the timing windows are more lenient (the ultra input in SF4 is the same, except you press 3 punches/kicks instead of one... controllers have a macro for this). Same goes for combos, really.

You can just drop the difficulty to "easiest" and abuse the fact that the CPU rarely punishes jumping kicks in that difficulty to unlock the characters. The arcade mode really isn't where the meat of the game is, anyway. The computer cheats just as badly in Mortal Kombat with the added fact that the game is riddled with game-breaking shit.

1. What does the first sentence mean exactly?
2. Guilty Gear (at least the version that's usually played) isn't a terribly old game.

If you're using a standard pad, go into training mode and look at what your input actually is.
If you can't pull off (e.g.) double-fireball, it's probably because the stick isn't registering properly or has a slow response. On mine, for example, I have to do {down-left to right} to pull off a right-facing super or ultra fireball; for left-facing I have to go from down to up-left. It often registers the punch on the down-forward, so I have to consciously delay it until later than it should be.

Basically, the standard pads are awful. You can work around their limitations, but not without comprimising speed. Which means stick players will hand you your arse. Congratulations! Welcome to Street Fighter 4.

That's like telling someone "Hey, you can't drive your Porsche because it's too fast? Well, clearly you need to go pick up a Pinto."

I agree about getting the tournament stick. People can pull off combos easier than someone with a controller. I play better on an arcade game than I do sitting down at home. The stick just seems easier to master than abusing your thumb like a masochist.

That made me giggle. "Go pick up a Pinto." Aahaha. Great comparison.

LOL

Dude Street Fighter is no about Special moves or Combo's it's about style

meaning that you shouldn't bother doing special moves since using Standard attacks in rythem is MUCH more effective

1. Play with a Rythem e.g. High punch ,low punch then flow it together
2. Block

but remember it's not about special moves at all it's about flow
and if can can build up a flow during a fight using Style then you WILL become a True Fighter

Yes. It's natural to suck at any fighting game WITHOUT PRACTICE. I know that if I go more than a few days without playing SC4, I will have forgotten how to use S. Mina effectively. I can easily recall Amy's moveset, though...Which is odd.

You really need to stick with fighting games to stay skilled. For some, its like riding a bike, they never forget how. For me, I go 3 fucking days and am a first-time player again...

Despite what people say here my roomate has been pretty damn successful Button-Mashing while playing online. Playing against the COMPUTER requires actual knowledge but against human beings it's a mashup. From what I've seen.

Sf to me is all about rhythm. It just takes practice and some experimentation to ee who works best for you. Hours and hours of playing really. Eventually you'll find you nitch.

There's no point to him driving it if he's gonna just run into a lamppost. Keep it in the garage, son.

Just practice till your thumbs canny take no more, pick a char to main and get used to how they play, if your playing ken and you master his ultra you should near enough be able to pull of most of the others (pretty much half the cast I think have the double quarter circle motion).
