Maybe he owns it the same reason I would ever own a Bible. Understanding an enemy.

Not at all, it is a useful book for those interested in history. If they have the ability to read it.
I was falling asleep every eight pages. Only got to around page 32. Can't remember any of it >.>

That depends on why he has it. If he has it because he idolizes Hitler or something creepy like that, then yes, it is odd. If he owns it out of its historical value, then it's not odd.

Well, I would say that whether it's odd or not probably depends on what your father does for a living. If he's a historian, or involved in some other sort of scholastic work where having some knowledge of the book might come in handy, then it might make sense. I've even heard of people reading it in certain college history courses, so if he went to college then it's possible that it was a book he had for one of his classes. Or, maybe you have German heritage, and the book belonged to one of your ancestors? There are lots of reasons for which one could own it without being an adherent to it. If I were you, I'd ask him why he has it. Unless he's an unreasonable man, then I'm sure there'll be a good innocent explanation.

Not weird at all. Hitler was a remarkable man in many ways if you can temporarily overlook all that sweaty hate.

Even if you could never agree with something, a new perspective on the situation can help you combat it in the future.

You sure it wasn't this?

If it wasn't, well, it is technically a piece of history. If he's not reading it obsessively, he's reading it for the same reason I'd read something by Al Gore.

Doesn't seem that strange. I read a good part of it in high school. It was pretty forgettable, but I thought it was interesting that it was in the library. He probably got it in an attempt to understand one of the most infamous people ever. That's why I picked it up.

This picture is fantastic. I laughed quite a bit.

That pic is brilliant.

OT: Agree with many previous responses that it's not intrinsically weird. Personally, I want a copy just because it's technically banned here and I don't like the idea of banned books under any circumstance. I'm not at all inclined to start a war or get rid of entire sections of the population (with the exception of professional football players :p).

It is (sorta) if you are in Germany, where is happens to be outlawed.

Otherwise, no. A book is a book. Massive amounts of time and effort go on to trying to explain history in general, and WW2 in particular...how many WW2 related documentaries were on TV this month?

It's a book that created a lot of history. It's nothing odd. Now, if he's actually managed to read that abomination of literature, THAT would be odd.

Honestly, has anyone tried reading it? That man needed to go back to grammar school.

Considering how strangely the book is paced and written already, its better to get it translated then learn a second language and then try to make heads or tails of the thing.

Literature is literature. If you want to read it, that's your business.

As long as he isn't blatantly racist, its not a big deal.

Not really he is probably just interested in World War 2 or why Hitler did what he did. Either way if he starts talking about a master race then you need to be worried.

It's still literature for understanding an individual. It's good to read for autobiographical reasons. If you're in an area where it's banned, then it's doubly important to have a copy, because books should never be banned.

No, it's not odd. Well maybe if he like keeps it in clear sight in the center of the living room on a pedestal or something. But other than that, it's a book written by a madman who conquered a big part of the world. How can his thoughts NOT be interesting? I'd read it if I ever get the chance.
