It really depends.

Does he keep it for academic purposes (i.e. understanding a historical viewpoint) or is he a neonazi bigot?

Maybe he owns it the same reason I would ever own a Bible. Understanding an enemy.
I wish there was a like button ala Facebook.
Except I hate facebook.
But you're awesome.

It's not uncommon, really. We have it in the libraries here in Sweden. I asked for it in German, but got the answer that it's not allowed to be printed in the mother tongue, and that translations are far more common than the German ones.

It depends on the reason he owns a copy of that book. If he likes to keep it for historical and educational value then it's quite useful really but if it's a way to worship Hitler it may be a tad odd.
[sub]And by tad I mean very.[/sub]

That's a really good way of putting it! Thanks man, that's going to be handy if I ever need to argue for my point.

It's a book that created a lot of history. It's nothing odd. Now, if he's actually managed to read that abomination of literature, THAT would be odd.

Honestly, has anyone tried reading it? That man needed to go back to grammar school.
I did in college. I honestly cannot name another book that was even more poorly written save maybe Twilight. The guy writes like a 5th grader who found himself a printing press.

No. It's an important historical document, and gives an insight into the very intense mind of a major (if negative) historical figure.

I mean, if your Dad studies it intently, and preaches Nazist doctrine to friends at social gatherings, then I'd be worried. Otherwise no. I went and looked for a copy when I was younger cos I was curious.

You wanna know something really odd? My friend, her mother's family is Jewish, and her father and his family are Nazis. (apparently, she says family get-togethers are really awkward)

Do you consider Christians as an enemy?
It is the religion itself that is the enemy.
It's nice to see someone else say this.

Also he owns the book big deal I know people who own lolita it doesn't make them a paedophile does it.

I actually do know someone who owns this book and constantly espouses racial hatred it's not owning it you have to be worried at it is owning it and then stating that Isreal should not be a country that is when you need to be worried.

a book, written by one of the most famously evil and hated people in history, and from what i've heard, the book truly sucks from a literary standpoint.

not to say he wasn't influential. its just that genocide isn't really a nice way to influence the world

It is (sorta) if you are in Germany, where is happens to be outlawed.
No, it is not.
The current copyright holder of the German version (the Bavarian Freestate) has just decided not to license anyone to print it, because they think it´s shit.
It is thus not illegal to own, acquire or read, as long as copyright is not violated (such as via acquiring an historical copy).
Which will be a moot point in a couple of years anyway.

Ah, yes, you are right...it seems to be illegal in Austria, however, possibly the people who told me it was illegal in Germany got those two mixed up.

No, as someone interested in history I wouldn't mind owning one myself to see the book that changed the world.

WHAT DE FOOK?
How did that even happen? Why did a nazi decide to marry a jew, and if they are real nazi's wouldn't it be more violent than awkward?
It's like the most fucked up version of Romeo and Juliet I've ever heard.
Please tell more! :)

Ask any eighth grader in America who Hitler was and they will probably tell you something close to the truth. Ask them who Descartes or Marx was and you will probably get a blank stare. Who is the more influential in modern history?

Then again, he's usually remembered for the genocide thing and not the book thing, so maybe my point is invalid.

OT: I wouldn't own it, but then again I think books on philosophy in general are a waist of time. Although Hitler's Struggle wasn't a declaration of ideology or philosophy, it was very poorly written... I wouldn't own it.

Off-Topic: Why does everyone make anything related to Hitler a taboo? If you mention you belong to the fascist party at a debate, you'll be boo'd off the stage and probably beaten up. A fascist is a political ideology, and it doesn't mean Jew Hating. Also, Hitler wasn't the first to commit genocide and he wasn't responsible for the largest either. There was a fuckload more than six million American Natives who were butchered by.. oh right. Us. :\
