I've liked some of the earlier installments of the Armored Core series enough to give the newest venture "For Answer" a whirl, and I've found that the soundtrack was a pleasant and welcome part of the experience (Despite virtually non-existent level design, an aspect of a game that I pay particular attention to, I loved the art direction and the near infinite amount of customization enough to actually enjoy the game). I've often found myself with a tear at the edge of my eye whenever its haunting melodies of string and keyboard reach a climatic crescendo, to the point that for whatever reason, I can't bring myself to listen to it anymore.
Now that isn't to say that a lot of games out there that have extremely listenable soundtracks aren't good, I mean Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is a good example of a game with a soundtrack that I can listen to over and over again, so much so that I've actually gone as far as to purchase the soundtrack on iTunes. I'm thinking perhaps that because of the slightly angry edge and the electronic nature of Amon Tobin's compositions, the music emphasizes the cold, efficient, and almost mechanically calculating method Sam Fisher uses to swiftly get the jump on his victims that I'm far more comfortable when listening to the score in Chaos Theory, whereas the soundtrack of Armored Core had a very melancholic, emotional feel to it that makes you feel like you're part of something thats totally majestic and beautiful that it transcends the worldly, techno-thriller nature that envelops the paranoid world of Tom Clancy.
Anyhoo, anyone else get that type of feeling when a game soundtrack is so hauntingly beautiful that you can't bring yourself to listen to it on a regular basis?
