Overall, I guess I'm kind of a Jesus fan. He's right up there in my personal (short) list of heroes. If it weren't for his fans that he always invites over when we're supposed to be hanging out, we'd get along perfectly. Anyway...

Games about the Bible ought to be good. I mean, there's certainly enough violence in there to get your heart pumping and your trigger (spear?) finger itching. The people who usually make Bible-related games, though, are really trying to find new ways to trick youngsters into going to church, get baptized and forever hate themselves and everyone they'll ever meet in a misguided attempt to please their idea of the Creator.
I'd argue people who make Bible games are trying to make fast money, not converts.

"Good" is a relative term. However, I don't think any sort of religious game based on Christianity could ever be more than novelty. It's would generate too much controversy. I mean, what the hell would it even be about? The Bible is rather boring unless it's a game about surviving the apocalypse in Revelations.
Actually there are a few relatively interesting stories in the Bible. You could be Moses, and every plaque you caused gains you a certain amount of XP, until you eventually have enough to kill everyone's firstborns....

I'd love to play a game where you control the armies of the Jews as you genocide the other tribes in Canaa so you can have their land.

I'm sure they could. They would have to violent it up a bit though. There's more than enough material to make a good action game.

Violent it up?!?!?! Read the Old Testament; a guy summoned two bears that ate 42 children!

What I'm saying is, Bible games I've seen don't have a lot of action. I did say there's enough material for a violent game.

So reading this thread has lead me to an amazing idea.

I want to play a game through Revelations. The four horsemen could be end bosses of each of the game's "levels" which are spread throughout a variety of post-apocalyptic locales.
Completely agreed. There's a part which mentions a 2,000,000,000 man army coming up from Hell. That would be tight.

Also, a small aside - the four horseman are actually forces of God, which work for the people and such. They actually help us.
Yea, but it'd be cooler to play as a Lieutenant in Satan's armies, and your purpose is to bring destruction and ruin to Earth.
Very true. Demonic powers and all.
I got it. Battlefront-esque combat, with the Four Horsemen and Jesus/Satan and his lieutenants as hero units?

WHY HAS NO-ONE DONE THIS YET?

Doable... but tricky. Besides the reasons listed above for harsh reception, games based on Christianity have earned many a black mark for weak graphics and gameplay, possibly due to taking the stories too literally.

I would say something set IN that setting but not based on any particular story would fare best. Have some new human characters living in that time period, allies, disciples or at least aquaintances of Christ. In this way you are allowed to perform in all the segments pertaining to his quest to save humanity that would translate well, and let cutscenes with Him do the talky parts.

This in fact, is really not too far off from a basic interpretation of Castlevania: Embittered for what he considered an unprovoked crime against him, a single mortal betrays his closest friend and sacrifices his humanity to declare an eternal campaign to either corrupt or destroy God's beloved creations as vengence. Mortal warriors blessed with holy power battle him across generations, never breaking faith or their belief in the human spirit.

I'm sure it has been. And I'm not trying to "start a Crusade in this thread". Also, I find your capitalization of "Crusade" interesting, seeing as how it was Christians who had the Crusades and killed anything that said "Oh hey, wait a secon-"

^-^
Just to clarify for all of us, the Crusades were meant to take back the Holy Land. Who are you implying said "'Oh hey, wait a secon-'" before promptly getting killed? What you are saying really had nothing to do with the Crusades =/

Please flame me back and call me names or whatever and then go back on topic. Thanks.

Sorry, Catholic school. I'm used to capitalizing the 'C'.
