Anything's possible, but WHY in hell would you want a bible game, irregardless of its quality?

Whatever, just wash your hands.
the problem with a bible game is that really the christian idea of god is boring, seemingly all powerful and all knowing (and all loving sometimes) really the only way you could make that compelling is if you had to kill him and you wouldnt be able to get away with that. not yet at least.... tho I wouldnt mind seeing it. I guess painkiller is kinda christian, it does have satan in it, cant have christianity without satan

Why not a Total War style game in the Old Testament? I'd play it.
Excellent. I see it as from Medieval 2 where they introduced heroes. The people of Israel would be almost unfairly outnumbered but through tactics and the badassery of some of their heroes they stand a good chance at victory.

Alternativly, a Total War game of Heaven Vs. Hell. A 3 tier map. Heavan, Earth, and Hell. The goal is to defeat your adversary (naturally Hell if playing as Heavan and vice versa). Where Earth comes into play is that in order to get to the other tier (1 getting to 3 but you have to go through tier 2) you have to go through a gate.

From the Hell Gate come thousands of demons intent on destroying humanity. From Heavan come the angels to protect them. The game starts in the middle of a war on Earth and it takes a few turns before humanity realizes the threat and unites against it. Human armies would be vastly inferior to the army of Hell and as such wouldn't be able to survive if the angels wouldn't come down to save them. Hell's army would be physically stronger but lacking angelic wings they wouldn't be as mobile.

As for recruiting and all that let me sleep on it as I've done all the thinking I can at this hour (just past 1:00am).
Hey, Israel gets a guy who kicks the crap out of an army with a jawbone. Badass.

I'd really want a Revelation RTS just for the sheer amounts of AWESOME it would emit. I mean, these Angels would be fighting Fallen Angels, and if it's in the future humanity would have something like a 40k setup....

I'm writing this down.

I believe that it is only possible in the technical sense of not violating fundamental laws of the universe. I'd name some outrageous thing I'd do if proven wrong, but those have a way of backfiring.

The sheer amount of tact and sensitivity in this thread is awe inspiring... -_-

A good game based on the Bible? Heh, you might as well try and make a good game out of Luo Guanzhong's Romance of the Three Kingdoms... wait... what do you mean they already did? What do you mean SEVERAL?!

Making a good game out of ANYTHING (even the Bible) is possible with enough imagination. The trick to doing so is the same as the trick to making a good educational game: don't try and cram it down the player's throat.

A few off the top of my head
A God of War type game based off the story of Sampson
A civilization strategy game based on the conquests of Joshua
A Dynasty Warriors type game based off of King David's elite forces (the book of 1st Kings actually chronicles their body count!)
Or how about a Rome sandbox game where you set up secret churches gain converts as Paul?

A post-apocolyptic survivalist game where you play Noah after the floods dissapate.

And you have to repopulate the world with...questionable methods XD.

I made it in just two hours, because I was bored, and I read this thread, and had two hours which probably should have been spent sleeping, but I did this instead.

I don't think it will run on non-XP computers, but you might want to test it to find out at least. I don't plan on actually fixing (or adding) anything from here on out, so if you can't play it, I guess that kind of sucks...

Will you allow the evil Philistine army take over God's land, or will you be filled with the might of God and smite their abominable giant with his wrath, and take back the kingdom for the LORD's glory!?

We may not know if someone could make a very good one, but now we've completely ascertained that I can make a pretty damn mediocre one in just two hours.

Complete with quotes! And historical inconsistencies! Woohoo!

Anyway, standard FPS controls. You have to hold the mouse button a while to shoot (using a sling is not an instantaneous activity). Make sure to avoid the spears the Philistine soldiers are throwing at you, and don't let big ole Mr. Goliath get the chance to pick one up and throw it at you a second time! When God says you're in danger, that means that a Philistine spear is on its way toward your head, so moving is recommended. You get three HP, and Goliath kills you in one hit melee, and each spear that hits you takes one HP off, so strategise well. It might take a few tries, but keep at it! You know you want to hear my terribly voiced end quote!

Also, this is my thousandth post! I get to go gonzo, get my Morpheus badge, show off my 1337 haxxin skillz, and... well, most important is the GOING GONZO part! Woo!

I felt posting a bible game in a bible game thread was appropriate, and that posting a game on my thousandth post (noting my username) was also appropriate, so this whole post is just tons of appropriate, I think.

As for the whole discussion, yes, I think a good Bible game can be made. The only difficult part would be convincing someone to endure all the hate you'd get from zealous Christians for it.

And a few posts back I said that I'd reserve my use of emoticons for my Gonzoation post. There was a few times since then I thought one might be appropriate, but I couldn't use one :(

But now I can use one! :)

Sorry if I'm celebrating a lot here, but this has been something I've looked forward to for a while (note my join-date... I'm a slow poster), so this is really exciting for me.

No, as they usuallly either have no relation to the bible whatsoever, or are just used as religious propaganda.

A Bible game would be great! Each mission could be a different part of God's genocide! You could get extra points at the end of each level, like a multiplier, for killing all your male prisoners and how much gold and silver you took from the town you burned down. You could then use the money to buy concubines and slaves. You have to be careful before each battle. You'd have to do a Fable 2 style mini game where you circumsize (SP?) your soldiers, and bury all the poo lying around your camp. If Yahweh sees any poo, he won't help you in the next mission.
There could be mini games about stoning disobedient children and women who were raped in towns, keeping disabled people and men who have had genital injuries out of the worship tent, or side quests about killing all the people in a town where someone had been preaching about a different god.
There could be Mass Effect-style persuasion missions where you have to stop the men in your village from raping your two visitors. If your persuasion skill is high enough, there'd be an option on your dialogue wheel that said, "Have my daughter and this concubine instead, but don't do such a vile thing to a man".
Then, after that, there could be a 'cut up your concubine into 7 (was that how many there was?) pieces QTE.
This game would be awesome.
