I have no idea what you mean.RingaFiar said:Perhaps it's chicken and egg Accursed....all I look at is here and now, they are on the streets. Yeah a couple of quid might buy them a Sandwich (tbh almost certainly a drink or something stronger), either way they are not doing too well to be in that position.AccursedTheory said:Here's the fun thing: Offer a beggar a meal at a nearby restaurant. Somewhere in the 20 dollar range.
He will not go for it, 9 out of 10 times, and will instead ask for cash. Even if it's only a dollar.
Why? Most beggars are either scam artist, or alcoholics/addicts. Not all, but most. They don't want a sandwich, they want vice.
Try it some time. It blew my mind when my dad showed me.
Don't let this convince you that OHio State University, Columbus is bad. It's a really good place, man. I guarantee that . Just HIgh Street is full of the worst and best of society.RingaFiar said:Strange thing to say, is it that bad? Do you mind me asking where abouts you are? It sounds like the classic case of poverty right next to opulence luxury, you know like in India during the Raj.Plurralbles said:my college campus has 10 of htem per mile. I dont' give them anything.
Am I in the right? Well, depends on your perspective. I think I'm neither. The college and society set it up that I dont' have any change on me. Ever.
It actually kind of astounds me that you don't see the gaping hole in what you just said. I mean if it were an actual hole you could probably fit a truck through it.ninjastovall0 said:no they wouldnt do the same.
go on try askin them for change.
besides i have no change to give unless theyre quarters and those are mine.
plus there are deadbeats who just act as well.
Whoa crap, sorry there I misread what you wrote. That Guy Who Phails said:What do you mean "Even" America?lobster1077 said:Really? I'm saying it's the ONLY place I've seen street beggars, not the only place I haven't.
Another common theory is that they got on the streets the same way you did.RingaFiar said:Perhaps it's chicken and egg Accursed....all I look at is here and now, they are on the streets. The tormenting of others less fortunate then you, even if they put themselves in that situation, is usually looked down upon.ninjastovall0 said:what? i dont like that they assume i have change so i make them feel uncomfortable by asking them. its....fun?kickyourass said:While I don't really see any reason you shouldn't give them money, I'd rather offer to buy them a meal or something.

Yah, you've got good benefit systems in Britain for sure but what if you open that other can of worms, hmm? What about the illegal immigrants?Craorach said:I've lived in England and Australia, both countries have good and universal benefits systems. There is no reason for someone to be begging, since all they need to do to get by is go to their local government office. The area of Australia I live in has a special problem with people of indiginous decent who take everything they can get from the system, spend it on booze and drugs, and then roam the streets or knock on the doors of the houses around their goverment provided homes, harrassing people for money or smokes and abusing those who refuse.
