I was wondering, is it weird/strange/uncommon? In what situation is it socially acceptable for a 17 year old to date a 19 year old?

I've never heard of anyone raising eyebrows because two people of those ages are dating, though it may help that the age of consent is 16 where I live and so there wouldn't be any awkward legal situation like there would be in some places.

No?

In UK that's perfectly normal and both would be in college/Sixth Form. It's socially acceptable here. It's a 2 year differences.

That's fine.

Although I suppose it could cause issues somewhere where the age of consent is 18. Even then many places have exceptions when both partners are young and a lot of people wouldn't give a damn anyway.

No? Not at all. I think we need to fix our laws that if people are within 4 years of each other screw the 18 year rule.

The fact that someone can be dating a significant other from the age of 16 and once one hits 18 it's suddenly illegal.

I don't think it's really weird or creepy...The main thing that would make it creepy would be if the 19 year old was dating the 17 year old because the 17 year old is 17.

Not really. The age of consent in my state is 16, so it wouldn't even be a problem from a legal standpoint here.

I actually think we have laws like that. Romeo and Juliet laws, although they're not universal.

Of course Micheal Bay had to go and make it weird in Transformers.

Eh. It might be weird. Probably not, but it might be, if the age of consent in your area is 18 and also if there's a very wide maturity gap.

as long as you aren't doing anything physical I don't see anything wrong with it, personally.

legally speaking, just keep your nose clean. it's a friggin year, then they can consent.

No. That kinda normal just as long their relationship is not sexual until the youngest person in that relation has hit 18 and is comfortable to go to the next stage.

Two years is nothing, especially at that age. When it comes to relationships, who's ready for what doesn't come down to some arbitrary line drawn by others. Most 17 year olds are capable of making their own decisions.

(But then again, I'm from a country where the age of consent is 16, sex ed is a thing, and where a 15 year old in a relationship with a 17 year old wouldn't get any strange looks.)

Two years isn't a huge gap, and the age of consent is only 16 in the UK. As long as the older partner remembers they're with somebody who's legally a minor, it's not a problem.

No. Age of consent here is 16, but even so, 2 years is nothing. My sister and her boyfriend are nearly 10 years apart.

No. What? No.

Isn't there a formula for this?
Half your age plus 7... I think.

Half of 19 is 9.5 plus 7 equals 16.5. Seeing as the person is 17, things seem perfectly fine.

I wouldn't think so. That's basically a late year High school senior dating a College Freshman, and that's something I've seen happen a bunch of times, especially if the two started dating when they were both in highschool
