No, it's not strange. They're based after real people, whom you should be attracted to.

Just don't date them, Futurama had that episode for a reason.

Why is it that every question that has ever been asked can be answered by a Futurama referance?
It's just one of the many things that makes Futurama great.

I love these threads. In fact, a similar thread was the reason I joined the escapist. More to the point, yes, its perfectly natural. I remember there ws part of a show called Genshiken which explained this perfectly. Theres a gif floating round somewhere.....

I think its a sliding scale, the closer towards realism a character is the less wierd it is, for example fancying a fully rendered, hyper realistic character isn't anywhere near as bad as fancying Tiffa from FFVII as she looks during non battle gameplay.

No no, *swoon* Tifa Lockheart. God damn writers just had to make her the ideal woman. Kind, strong and sexy as a choclate strawberry. (cookie for reference obviously).
Role Models.

I think that saying someone is hot/acttrative/etc is fine. JUst don't go and try to marry it, like that asian and Love Plus was it?
that was a very sad day in gaming
how many times do you think that guy got rejected by normal women?

I don't really think it's weird. You just gave to remember that it's the Idea of a guy like Ezio that you fancy, since the "real" Ezio is just a cloud of 1's and 0's. If you can recognize this and separate the game from reality, then no. I don't think it's werid. :)

To answer your question; I haven't really started to fancy a game character. I probably could, but it hasn't happened to me yet, though I like both Jade and Eleanor Lamb... I have however developed crushes on characters form Tv-shows and anime's.

No, of course not. If you can find a way to relate emotionally or psychologically to a fictional character, then that means the designer/writer has done their job properly.

Just don't think anything real will come of it. You can't marry him.

Well if it is, than I admit to being weird as at one point in my life I was in love with Ashley from Mass Effect. I'm still sort of... Not as much as before, where I was constantly depressed because I knew I would never meet anyone like her.
I was on the romance tour with Ashley and then she shot Wrex. When the appointed sexytime night came, I chased her away, the whore.

...Wrex. :'C

And yeah, as a straight guy, I'd go for Ezio any day.
That's not a straight thing to say though. Man-love for the latinos = gay love. Ezio, Rico Rodriguez...
Point taken, but still. Ezio's not exactly half bad.

Yes, I believe it is, personally. It is like falling in love with a chair for its personality. To have a crush on a non-existant person because of their personality is wrong, but lusting over them because of their looks is different.

This should apply even if its not 2D but considering its still an imaginary character. Always found this explanation to be most insightful XD

I personally thought that he was only hot on the box art with half his face covered and the hole mysterious thing was very hot (im a guy btw)

But personally i wish that both Tali from Mass effect and Alistair from Dragonage were real

Having an actual crush does sound a bit odd. But I can perfectly understand you find a fictional character attractive. I always liked 'the girl with the pearl earring' (a painting)

XD Yeah, you don't think Persona's a popular game till you hear people talking about it online. And with its cast of characters, its hard to find a girl you that wont remind you of someone you may have liked in the past.
I'm suprised that this game is still relevant, and that I saw so many similarities between my friends and the Persona main characters.
Like I said, its got a diverse group of characters, its hard not to see someone you know in them.

Note: if I have been ninja'd, please inform me, I'm too lazy to check.

It's perfectly natural, what we're seeing isn't a fictional character; as far as your brain is concerned it's a representation of a real a real person. It possesses features you find attractive and all your brain notices are those traits that suggest a compatible partner to transfer your genetic code to.

It's no different than being attracted to a person in a photograph, pornography or even a painting of a real person; each of them are real people and you know this, but really they're representations of those people. A photo of someone isn't the actual person themselves, the fact that we can make this simultaneous link and distinction at the same time both consciously and subconsciously is a massive evolutionary advantage.

Cave-men knew this concept and there have been crude pornographic cave-paintings found in various sites across the globe; our ability to use these functional genetic traits in ways other than intended is what has given rise to creativity.

Essentially it's all based in our pattern-recognition ability where we are able to see faces in anything, we can tell which one of our species we'd most like to pair up with but also it would've saved our lives; it's a lot safer to be scared of a face that turns out to simply be some moss on a stone than to ignore an actual face of a very real threat.

So, no, it's not weird. Anyone who says they have never been attracted to a fictional character is lying. I'm sure they've imagined their perfect partner at some point and because of the traits they'd given to them would be attractive to them it's obvious that they're attracted to a fictional character because even though this person might exist out there somewhere, they don't know that for sure. Thus, since they created them in their own mind, a fictional character they will remain.

*sigh* yes, I admit it... I used to have a crush on Katt from Breath of Fire 2, among others...

I think everyone goes through a stage of thinking game characters are hot (some of which never come out of said stage), mostly because characters are built to be appealing to you. In some cases, it's because of how powerful they are as a character, in other cases because they're attractive looking.

One thing you have to admit is that there's NO-ONE in real life who looks as good as a game character (thus why game characters could never exist irl)

Attraction, sure. Obsession, maybe. Trying to somehow bring them to life using dark magic so you can live together happily ever after.............Yeah, no

It all depends on how much you "fancy" them. Characters are designed to look attractive, even more so than real people, with their perfect skin/proportions, etc, so feeling attraction is nothing wrong. There is a fine line, however, between that, and actually pretending they're real and imagining a relationship.
