Note: this is not a stupid xbox 360/PS3 fanboy argument so please don't bring that crap here.

Since my xbox is getting on a bit (i've basically had it since they came out) and the ridiculously loud fan is driving me nuts i'm thinking of trading it in and buying a replacement. First look was going to the new 250GB slim xbox (more storage and a lot quieter)

Buut since my brother already has a 4GB slim i could easily just play my Xbox games on his. And since the price for a PS3 is comparable it is a decent alternative.

Basically it comes down to the exclusives available on the PS3 and multiplayer; are the exclusives decent enough games? And how does the online system/community compare with Xbox live?

The exclusives are amazing. Uncharted, Demon's Souls, White Knight Chronicles, inFamous, Disgaea 3/4, Heavy Rain, Yakuza 3/4, etc etc and on and on. I actually sold my 360 to get a PS3 almost solely because of the exclusives, and I haven't once regretted the decision.

As for the online...PSN works great for me, but practically nobody has a mic unlike Live where everywhere and their grandmother has one. So good news, you don't get 'LOLOLOLGETBACKINTHEKITCHENBITCH' and other assorted fun things. Bad news, it's hard to coordinate without a way to communicate.

Well, it's all if you wanna spring for a buncha new games. You already have Xbox games, so if you want to try all sorts of new things, go ahead.

But the internet all depends on what you have. My internet is terrible and PS3 gamin is kinda frustrating, so I usually either play all split screen or single player.

I say it's a good idea to go for ps3, I just bought my brother a used slim for a smooth $200 and it's running really well. I think it really does depend on connection speed for online play, and I'm not sure, but if you're a COD guy I think most ps3 COD players tend to have mics.

I love the exclusives though. They are mostly single player experiences, but at least you get free online play...

If you're planning on getting Uncharted 3 there's a sweet PS3 bundle coming out on November 1st!

If your into RPGs and single player games PS3 has the best exclusives in that area. Xbox is more multiplayer focused with most games.

I have all three systems this gen. I got a PS3 for the exclusives only. Love the exclusives. Just wish there were more of them. The multiplatform games run better on Xbox and the online is better. Party chat and Private chats while in game aren't on PS3 plus Background downloading isn't any good.In my opinion so if I were in your shoes, I'd just trade your old xbox for a new Slim.

There are also a few, more obscure exclusives. Atelier Rorona(or Totori), Ar Tonelico Qoga, Hyperdimension Neptunia and Valkyria Chronicles. Also ICO & Shadow of the Colossus collection just came out. There are also the PSOne classics you can download.

I personally have both the Xbox360 and PS3. They both have good exclusives, PS3 seems to get more RPG exclusives then Xbox tho. Hope this helps

It really depends on what type of games you play. The PS3 got some pretty good exclusives coming, like Uncharted 3 and... can't really come up with anything else right now, but i'm sure theres more. Personally I got all platforms covered. I got an Xbox 360 which I use to play racing games, Assassins Creed (I always prefered playing Assassins Creed on the Xbox... dont ask me why, because I don't really have an answer) and 360 exclusives. I use my PS3 for fighting games and exclusives, and lastly, I just got my kick ass gaming PC a couple of months ago which I use for everything else. No more missing out on exclusive titles anymore. I found this to be the best solution for me since I play a wide variety of games on different platforms, so the only way to cover my.. "needs" was to get every major platform.

I based mine on the controller. I've always hated the PS controllers, but the xbox and 360 controllers made sense to me.

If your choice is upgrade to 360 slim or a ps3 then I'd stick with what you know and stay with the 360, purely because you've already got a bunch of games for it and presumably know and love it if you've had it since day 1.

I would say if you were thinking of getting a ps3 then make sure there are games that YOU want to play on it first and foremost. Don't be swayed by what friends have recommended or reviews etc, if you see games on the ps3 that you think look/sound good and want to give them a try then I'd suggest save up for one instead or borrow a friend's ps3 (if you know anyone who's got one) and see if you like it before splurging money on a thing you might dislike in a matter of hours.

Personally I too have had a 360 since day 1, and I know and love it, yet when there are games on the ps3 that I want to play (namely for me FF Vs XIII and Tales of Graces F) then I will save up and get one, until that time I'm sticking with what I know

Xbox Live is only a little bit better, not enough to turn heads really. PS3 right now has an avalanche of exclusives and they're all worth at least giving a try. Honestly, the best MP I've played this year still has to be Killzone 3, and I've been playing Gears 3 intensively the last couple of days. Plus Resistance 3 has been a solid FPS.

So far all I have bought and played on my PS3 is MGS4 and Disgaea 3. All I use my 360 for now is mostly just playing FIFA games :/

your brother already has a Slim 360 that you can play...

what's there to think about get a PS3 and you'll have both systems to play on, and all above exclusives are good maybe even better than Xbox exclusives

I would recommend the PS3 highly, ESPECIALLY for the exclusives! The list goes on.

I find that having both the PS3 and XBox 360 has opened a lot of gaming doors for me. I can play Little Big Planet and InFamous, but I also bought Gears of War 3 on release. Both consoles have strengths and weaknesses, so if you have both you're covered. I find that I buy a lot more games for my PS3, though. I'll always be a Playstation kid.

I can't really speak for the multi-player too much because honestly I've never really been into competitive multi-player and most games don't seem to embrace the whole "co-op campaign" thing like Halo and Gears of War did.

But for single-player, the PS3 is an absolute beast.
LittleBigPlanet 1&2 (Which also has community maps that you can download, and the local co-op is a blast.)
inFamous 1&2
Metal Gear Solid 4 (Though admittedly the mileage you'll get out of that will depend entirely on if you have played the previous three games.)
Uncharted 1, 2, and soon to be 3
White Knight Chronicles (1 is a bit clunky, but 2 apparently reworked much of the slow combat and comes with a remastered version of 1, so you're essentially getting two huge RPGs in one.)
Disgaea 3&4
Killzone 2&3
Demon's Souls
The Ico&Shadow of the Colossus Collection
God of War 3 (And the HD re-releases of 1&2, Chains of Olympus, and Ghost of Sparta)
Ratchet&Clank Future Trilogy
The Sly Collection (HD re-releases of the Sly Cooper PS2 games)
Resistance 1, 2, & 3
The Atelier RPGs
Yakuza 3&4

And there are certainly more exclusives that I don't even know about.

For me the XBOX was to clunky of a controller... Ps3 is just plain simple and easy. You may of been the only person to like that boomerang design they came up with but scrapped
