Is it worth getting into EVE online?

EVE is a very high time-intensive game. Your ship is always at risk and similarly, it takes time to get what you lose back. Unlike other MMOs, it's almost impossible to play EVE solo effectively:You're going to get ganged upon by privateers and other bad men.

Get a group and stick with them, better still, become part of their core membership. That's when EVE really shines in it's multiplay battles, rather than impossible-odds running and escaping while you're trying to earn a modest living. It's kinda like the real world work industry, where the most honest are suckers for those who game others for profit.

Also, here's a pretty educational infographic which most people agree with:

That certainly used to be the case, but not today.
Yeah, the other MMO's got easier. =P

True, Kil2 does a fairly good job of explaining though so it gives some idea. A lot of people think EVEs PvP is just orbiting and turning guns on, something that will get you killed the first time you face off against a player. It is a misconception born from early mission running when people try the game. Its nothing but, any EVE player with a bit of experience outside of mining and mission running knows better but its still hard to convince people sometimes.
Indeed; a significant amount of my time in Eve was heading the training wing of a pirate alliance. Kil2 has an excellent selection of videos; though at the time only Seven had commentary of any note. I linked it quite frequently an example of how to successfully split up a gang.

As for the just-hit-orbit mindset of a lot of the player base; the most surprising was how often you'd see it from veterans with a reasonable amount of PvP experience. I think they just didn't care - it was too much effort to direct the ship in any other way. Pretty entertaining watching them get slung into < 13km while trying to kite though.

Look - you're entirely right that banding together is the recommend course of action )especially for new players) but solo play is far from impossible. In fact, I find it the most exhilarating. Once you know what you're doing the money comes easy regardless of who you're with.

Its a thing you see distressingly often, surprising how many players do not understand basic maneuvering. Pulling someone flying a faster ship in closer to you is something every PvPer should learn, both to use it and avoid it. Its the same as when you see someone in say an autocannon ship and are webbed and scrammed and getting pounded on by blasters and they are trying to creep away instead of ramming them to bump them so they fly away from you and hopefully giving you enough time to pull some range and put them deep into falloff while they come about. Things like that are basic things players should learn at the same time as learning how to fly and fit your ship, mind you without getting into that too think about how often you see players that cannot get that right either with all the lolfits you see over the years.

His videos are great though, the thing I like the best (beyond watching his skill) is the way he demonstrates that you do not need the biggest and most expensive ships to get results. Planning, tactics, skill and being aware of your capabilities and the capabilities of your equipment will make all the difference. The solo PvP videos with really expensive fits are good too like Gods Coldblood with his 5 billion ISK Vindicator with many more billions worth of implants taking on a ten man gang single handedly, so are the ones with off grid command ship support and other tactics. There is something pure about Kil2s videos with his cheap mods and rigs and no support though.

There fun to watch; but actually doing it is no more fun than flying cheap. I had things going pretty good after an extortion racket and instead of throwing my cash into legions of Battlecruisers usual I dumped it into the whole deal; crystals, links for my alt and a ludicrously expensive ship to top it off. I still have it all, and I had some really fun fights, but it wasn't any more exhilarating than my usual shtick of picking off the weakest links of a gang.

And the videos stopped being interesting after people seemed to produce nothing but linked, implant sets and faction fitted ships. Aldap's series where he flew those no-prop, plated cruisers was so much more entertaining than the last thing Coldblood produced.

All of Gods Coldblood videos where just the same as all the others in the end, never saw those Aldap vids. By the sounds of they remind of a guy who made a bunch of videos around 2008 and he used to fly dual rep canes with no prop mods and used to get some good fights, they went downhill in the end though and just turned into station humping.

I have barely played any EVE over the last 12 months and have been unsubbed since X-mas, Is Garmon still making videos?

I think he quit again - I haven't been subbed since just before Christmas either, so for all I know he could have come back again. I'd be more interested to know if Kovorix was making videos again to be honest.
