Here's the skinny:

Let's pretend I have money. I'm going to spend roughly $1000 or more on a good computer. Should I be getting WoW? Or is the price of subscription not worth it? Discuss.

No poll because I want to see your answers.

I'll need money first, but IRRELEVANT.

I don't know, is it? My value of time and money is probably quite different than yours.

If you are independently wealthy and will never have to work a day in your life, don't care about family, friends, or any relationship that isn't in Azeroth, and don't mind your hygiene and fitness slacking, sure, why not. If you enjoy your life, or can actually keep yourself sane while playing it, by all means, go ahead. But I'd advise you to stay away.
Damn. I'm well-known for easily being addicted to stuff.
This may be a problem.

This. It will happen, especially if you are easily addicted to things like you say. My sister has a WoW baby because of that game. And I don't mean this in a good way.

Think it depends if you can balance life with WoW. If you get addicted to games easily and they take a large chunk of time in your life, STAY AWAY FROM WoW! If you can balance it with life, give it a try, and stop if you find yourself on at 3 in the morning because you "needed to reach x level" or needed to finish x quest."

It's not really that good to be honest. If you've played a lot of MMOs, i suppose WoW would be the king of MMOs. But that's like being the best turd out of a pile of turds.
Here's the combat incase you've never played:
*click the enemy*
*wait for them to die, no need to click again, combat is automatic*

There you go. As you get further into the game, you unlock other things to click, like say, as a tank i had Hammer of the Righteous which i would click and a little effect would show on the character it was used on, and their health would be somewhat lower. It's boring but addictive, somehow. Tests for e-heroin have come back as inconclusive, so we're still trying to figure out what the fuck Blizzard are pumping this game with.
And be prepared for a shit-faced-terrible community. It's literally full of fuckwits, and you'll find yourself turning into one. Also, WoW takes up a major amount of your time, as if you didn't already know.

As a side - and totally unrelated - note, it's "W-oh", not "W-ow". I hate people who pronounce it the second way.

Yeah go for it. It's just a game.

I play now and then, I don't get the fuss. If I don't wanna play, I stop, simple as. If you have even the smallest, tinyest amount of willpower, you'll be fine. It's a well made game.

It really depends on what you like. If you're an rpg fan, and can stand a bit of grinding, you should be fine.

It's fun. But god no. Don't. I did, lost a month of social life. I actually had to have about 5 people on the phone with me to get me to cancel it, after I did, life slowly returned to normal. Only get it if you're good at managing your time. And I mean really good. And if you don't have an addictive personality. I'm usually able to exercise a good chunk of will power over things like this, but I couldn't.

Anyway, if you do decide to go into it, enjoy it, just be wary.

I would suggest trying out some of the free MMOs out there or watch some gameplay videos before you decide.

Well with no indication otherwise I am going to assume you enjoy or at least accept many aspects that are general negatives of MMORPGs such as level grinding.

I play a lot of MMORPGs myself, I don't play WoW anymore but it was fun, my abandoning of it is more out of interest in other games rather than lack of interest in WoW. The way I see it, there's generally a reason the game is so popular. It's easy to get into and once you get going there's always something to do and it is very easy to get into anything at pretty much every stage of the game, questing, dungeons, crafting, exploring, pvp, etc. Battles are fairly active if overall a bit samey with the bulk of enemies you will fight.
If you want an MMO, WoW is a safe and very good choice.

Unless you have honest to god problems with abandoning all social life for a game the whole addictiveness of it is quite exaggerated. Even if that's the case, I'm sure you'd very quickly find a different game to lose your life to.

To each his/her own, I guess. I just assume it's because your not cut out for MMOs, and not everyone is. I'm into WoW, but I'm not cut out to be a FPS gamer, it's all based on preferences. By the way, the way you described combat in the game is the jist of combat in, I don't know, just about every game with combat; choose a target/area you want to attack, chose what weapon/ability/spell you want to attack with, rinse and repeat while using different tactics for different enemies until said enemy is dead.

Anyway, to King Toasty, it really just depends on what kind of gamer you are, if you have the income to support it, and if you can appropriately balance it with your work/school and social life. I personally can play it for reasonable amounts of time to avoid it cutting into my life, and yet still amply enjoy the lore, settings, quests, dungeons, raids, and PvP. Not all at once, of course, but it just goes to show there is a lot to enjoy from the game (there's a reason WoW has stayed on top in the MMO competition). As for the quality of the community, that also depends on the server you play on, but you can turn off that chat or put specific people on ignore if you want to. However, assholes are a dime a dozen in any online community, so it's not a "solely WoW" thing. If you have any friends who play the game and you do start playing it, find out what server they play on and their character(s)'s name(s), because as with any multiplayer game, it's always best (and more fun) to play with friends.
