it's like a drug, the first times play it it's fun, but after awhile you're addicted but bored with it.
unless you have some good self control, then no.

Well if you're easily addicted, I'd advice not to. If you have $$, and friends to play with you could consider it. But before you commit to purchasing it, play the free trial.

Haha, I love how everyone speaks about WoW as if he is asking whether he should start smoking (granted there are similarities). I reckon if you can get a group of friends and all get into WoW together you will have a great time. I fondly recall my memories of playing WoW into the early hours of the morning with my a couple of my friends at their place. We don't play anymore so I don't know how hard it would be to catch up with everyone, but I hear it's pretty easy nowadays, if you're after an mmo, you can't really go wrong with WoW.

But as other people have said if you're easily addicted to things you should probably be careful, it could easily turn into something similar to a crack addiction.

World of Warcraft IS a good game. But you should only be playing it if you qualify these three important areas:

- Plenty of time
- Not many friends or loved ones (or at least some that play WoW)
- Extra cash that just happens to be lying around

Yes WoW is good but MacDonalds can be considered good and it certainly isn't healthy for you.

I've been a massive Blizzard fan (see image below of me) and I got WoW simply to see what Blizzard could do to thrill me next. I loved the game but it took too much of my time away. I was also poor at the time. I used a guide to level up 2 characters to level 70 and then I stopped playing. I don't like PvP (I'm Australian and we lag like a B-Jesus, therefore it is always unfair to play against others) and I don't like the whole max out your gear to a Minuit extra +1 strength. If I started playing it again I would probably hate it (much like D2) quite simply because I believe I have already played it to death.

If you have friends that play the game then I recommend starting a new character together and maybe leveling up together (if you have similar schedules). It can be quite fun when you role-play with others playing with their strengths and weaknesses. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend it. Maybe wait until Star Wars or Guild Wars 2 MMOs come out?

Ugly? How? Just because it has a different graphics and not as highly rendered as other games? Please don't insult a game based on graphics, because:
a) They're not terrible graphics, and actually looks pretty good on max settings.
b) Blizzard purposely made that way so that the vast majority of computers that people play it on can handle it without crashing, and improve them if the computer can handle it.
And most importantly, c) Graphics alone DON'T, and should never, carry a game. I'd rather a game have shitty graphics, but with solid gameplay and story than vise-versa.
As for lame, people have different tastes in games as they do with anything.

Here's the skinny:

Let's pretend I have money. I'm going to spend roughly $1000 or more on a good computer. Should I be getting WoW? Or is the price of subscription not worth it? Discuss.

No poll because I want to see your answers.
money wise...yes...if you buy a new video game ever like month then its worth it if its pretty much all you play...15 a month/ 4 months per normal video game

If you are independently wealthy and will never have to work a day in your life, don't care about family, friends, or any relationship that isn't in Azeroth, and don't mind your hygiene and fitness slacking, sure, why not. If you enjoy your life, or can actually keep yourself sane while playing it, by all means, go ahead. But I'd advise you to stay away.
Damn. I'm well-known for easily being addicted to stuff.
This may be a problem.
Then do not.

If you have a girl/boyfriend/? No.
If you have a girl/boyfriend you want to get rid of? Yes.
If you want a girl/boyfriend? No.
If you don't want a girl/boyfriend? Yes.
If you don't have a girl/boyfriend but are interested in meeting one over WoW? Give it a shot.

However, I am not a fan of WoW. I tried the trial they sent out a few years ago and I found it tedious. I gave up when I had to collect 10 troll ears. In theory it doesn't sound too bad. Seeing as trolls have 2 ears and I would only have to slay 5 of them to finish the quest. It turns out that 90% of the trolls that I had slain didn't even have ears. I was quite pissed off.

Unless you feel like paying for the privilege of having a second job... no.

That said I have some expensive time wasting hobbies myself and one of the guys I work with met his fiancee over WoW so your mileage may vary.

If you can keep your playing time reasonable then go right ahead, give it a shot for a month or so, just make sure you set limits on yourself.

Make your own decision that isn't tainted by the clashing opinions of a community that appears, on the surface, to obsess over videogames anyway.

I think only you can answer that question, if you think you balance it and life

Addiction possibility aside,

WoW (and other mmorpg) are actually dirt cheap entertainment when you think about it. Let say you play 10 hours a week (And who are we kidding, you'll most likely play it a lot more than that), than you end up paying roughly 5 cent per hour of gameplay.

Now baring going outside and throwing rocks and sticks around, there really aren't that many activities that are that cheap money wise.

The price on your social life and health if you over do it tho, can be rather high.

But it's all about moderation.

Myself, I've been sober... I mean, I've stopped playing WoW for a year now. I would not recommend going to WoW... but I do have to say that the new hobby I picked up to replace WoW sure is a hell of a lot more expensive (Look at his avatar and sighs).

Christ, so many people here hate it and say it'll destroy your social life...
No. It really won't.
Play on it for a bit each day and have fun! That'll be fine. Just so long as you don't spend, quite literally, all day on it.
The combat is a bit more than 'Click and wait' to that guy who said it before. And it's pronounced Wow, not Woh. There is no way it could be pronounced Woh. Ever.
In the world.
Of warcraft.

So yes, it's a good game, give it a month or two and see if you like it, it won't eat your life.
