Currently I have an Xbox 360, which I'm not planning on getting rid of because all my friends have one and I like playing with them. I don't exactly like PC gaming because I've grown up with a controller in my hand and a keyboard just doesn't feel right and I don't have a PC in the first place (Macbook) so, yeah. Despite the wealth of benefits, like mods and superior graphics, PC gaming has to offer, it's not happening. However, the PS3 is starting to look very appealing to me. Slightly better graphics than the 360, free online, and a bunch of amazing exclusives are all drawing me in.

So, Escapists, is it worth it buying another system?

P.S. Pleasepleasepleaseplease don't start a console/PC flamewar....

I'd say yeah.
I really love my PS3, though it doesn't get as much attention as my PC (or the 360, with Skyrim in the way :3) but it's a really nice console.
It as all the features you mentioned, which are all awesome.
The only issues I've had are hard drive space (I have a 40-gigger, and I'm starting to run low on room) and that used consoles come (at least from Gamestop) come with Sixaxis controllers, which, while perfectly functional and great due to the whole Bluetooth dealio, completely lack rumble, which isn't bad, just a minor issue.

So, in short, go for it.
I don't think you'll regret it.

Edit: And if you have any questions, just ask me in the thread or via PM. I'll be glad to answer them.

It seems like so many games are for both the ps3 and 360 that you might as well just have one or the other (I chose ps3 for free online).

Which exclusives are you looking at exactly?

Absolutely. If you love gaming why would you limit yourself to one console if you can afford another. You get access to more great games like uncharted, gran turismo, killzone, little big planet, infamous, god of war. What have you got to lose? In mind if you can afford it why not experience some great games.

Personally I have a ps3 and xbox 360. I prefer my ps3 personally but I got asked for an xbox 360 so that I could play some of the great games offered by the other system.

I've had my PS3 for two years now and it is the best current gen. console in my opinion.

It is fantastic, I never regretted my purchase. (Like I did my 360...)

Although, a lot of the controllers and head sets can be a bit pricey, but that's because they last a long time. I accidentally threw my controller at the wall and it still works great.

If you do get the system, make sure you buy extra charger cords because they can get lost fairly easily.

So I say, if you have plenty of money to spend, [HEADING=1]GO FOR IT![/HEADING]

EDIT: If you have any questions about the exclusives, message me or something, if you like.

Uncharted, Gran Turismo, Killzone, LittleBig Planet, Infamous, Shadow of the Colossus HD, Metal Gear Solid, etc.
Of those Ive only played Killzone and MGS

both pretty decent games. Metal gear4 had fantastic online play but has become underpopulated, the story is good but makes the game a little more video-heavy than other MGS games; I'd definitely recommend the MGS HD collection. I haven't tried Killzone 2's multiplayer, but the campaign is pretty decent and actually quite challenging.

My friend has GT and it looks like a beautiful game, but if it's like any of the franchise's previous installments it's very difficult and a little tedious at times.

As it is apporaching the end of the consle life cycle, it may be best to wait for the next gen Xbox or Play Station as that may be a better investment.

I had an old backward-compatible one that slowly died, randomly stopped reading discs which got worse over about 2 months, then froze and shut down with the yellow light on. After much wrangling over the 'phone and 2 months later, I got a refurb (seriously, £500 was a LOT of money for a console!)
Apparently the PS2 emulation chip thingy overheated and crapped-out the whole fecking system. The final kick in the nuts was it wouldn't let me copy most of my save games over. Twats.
Hardly touch the thing now, mostly just 'cause my new PC is waaaaayyyyy better, though I'll dust it off for Red Dead Redemption and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 and 2 at some point. When we move and I get my HDTV back. Meh. Oh, and blu-rays. Yay.

Bahaha, how do you accidentally throw a controller?
Well, I jumped on my bed and the controller just kinda left my hand and fleeeeeeeeeeeew across the room and made a dent in the wall.

I named the controller Hard Hat for that reason. (Yes, I name controllers. I'm not weird.)

I recommend the hell out of the PS3. All of those games (I can't speak for Gran Turismo) are amazing. But, if you get Metal Gear Solid 4, get the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection that just came out as well, because as much of a fan of MGS I am, I acknowledge that if you haven't played MGS2, you'll have no idea what's going on in MGS4. (The HD collection also contains a recap of MGS1 in text form from the Metal Gear Solid 2 portion.)

Uncharted is a very well-polished third-person shooter/platformer, Killzone is a fun little first-person shooter, LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2 are really fun platformers (better with co-op), and Infamous is a solid sandbox superhero game. Shadow of the Colossus is more of an acquired taste than the rest of the games - It really shows in the overall design that it was made six years ago. But if you like looking outside of the box and can grasp a story that isn't directly thrown in your face, SotC is a great platformer/action-adventure game.

I'd also recommend White Knight Chronicles 2 if you're a fan of JRPG's, but if you're not feel free to skip it.

I've been moving more toward PC gaming lately (I'm going to get my money's worth out of my gaming laptop, damn it) but if I had to choose to give away either my PS3 or my 360, I'd keep the PS3.

I figure it still has another 3 years...

or if he wants to pick up a WiiU. (actually has higher specs than ps3/360...wont be long before ps4, the new Xbox and the much speculated I-console beat those specs though.)

Go for it. Those games are pretty interesting. Also, take a look at Catherine when you have the chance.

Speaking as someone who got MGS4 with his PS3, never played ANY other Metal Gear games, and is now a major fan of the series after that one game....you don't actually need to play the rest to know what's going on. It's awesome one way or another.

Uncharted 2, LittleBig Planet, Shadow of the Colossus HD, Metal Gear Solid 4, God Of War Collection and God Of War 3, etc are all fantastic games.

I'd definitely say you should get a PS3.

If you want so many of those games, you have your answer.
And pick up the Ratchet & Clank Future games while you're at it. You'll thank me.

It is awesome either way, but some people aren't quite as good at following convoluted plots. And pretty much every character in MGS4 was introduced earlier in the series. The story of the game itself is pretty much self-contained, but there's a lot of background and references to earlier titles that you'll miss if you don't play the other games before or after playing MGS4.

So I suppose I should've said that it's a great game by itself, but it's even better when taken with the other Metal Gear Solid games.

And egads, how could I have forgotten about God of War? The entire series is on the PS3 now in two HD collections and God of War III and while the gameplay doesn't change too much from title to title, it's always fun and the story is pretty awesome if you're a fan of Greek mythology.

Yes, just stay away from All 4 One. It was a mighty dissapointment to a long-time fan.

(By long-time fan I mean me.)
