Is it worth it to get back into Team Fortress 2?

I played Team Fortress 2 almost religiously for about 3 years. Even through the addition of the cash shop and my FPS slowly dipping, I persevered, and had a whole lot of fun while doing so. However, by the Christmas update last year, TF2 became unplayable for me. My FPS went from perfect in the beginning of the year to 20 by the update. Now, 2 months later, I'm thinking of reinstalling it after getting a new gaming rig. Is it worth it? Has the game officially took a nosedive into shit? Or should I give it a second try?

I've literally just come off this...Yeah it's still enjoyable, most of the weapons seem to be balanced now so yeah go for it.

It really depends on who you ask. Some are of the school of thought that all the new weapons and items have ruined the game, but many (like me) enjoy them and know that yes it is a bit ridiculous, but that's what keeps the game fun and fresh. I don't feel it's terribly unbalanced in any way, I think the only class that may be at an unfair disadvantage at this point is engie. And some more things have gotten balanced out (like the Spy-cicle for Spy, making it a bit easier to get away from pyros if the opposite team happens to have like 5 of them).

It's just as fun as when it came out and all the new weapons & items are making it even more enjoyable.

I almost always use stock weapons on every class I play, with exceptions being the engie (wrangler) scout (sandman) and spy (switch between deadringer and regular watch)

TF2 is one of the few games that can keep me logging on after years of having it. it is also incredibly balanced.

I don't consider the engineer to be overpowered (the class I play the most) but I would consider them a priority target. Medic's and Engineers are two of the most powerful classes if left to their own devices which is why it's important to protect them or kill them depending on your team.

Medics are next to useless without an attack class and an engy is next to useless without his sentry. My only issue with engies is that I seem to be the only one who uses his shotgun instead of relying solely on my sentry

OT: yeah TF2 is still awesome, learn the new weps and you'll be golden.

Yeah, you probably should. It's fun, it's balanced, and if it hooked you for ~3 years, it'll hook you again :)

If you were into it for as long as three years before you quit, I think that you should give it another try. The new weapons may seem a little hard to use and stupid, but once you get used to them, they aren't really such a turn off.

So long as you've got a song in your heart and refuse to bow down to the trend to be a crusty cynical so-and-so, there's absolutely nothing about Team Fortress 2 that's anywhere near "officially shit" (no, not even hats!)

Reinstall it and give it a whirl, worst-case scenario you still have FPS problems at which point you uninstall it again (or troubleshoot the issue more thoroughly).

But the best-case scenario? A life time of fun and happiness the likes of which past generations couldn't even imagine.

Say no to marbles and hopskotch*.

Say yes to TF2.

*Or say yes to marbles and hopskotch too. The more fun-filled timesinks you have in your life, the better!

I could definitely recommend it. It's a game that's both challenging to play, yet incredibly easy to get into. You really don't have to worry about "falling behind" when it comes to the unlockable weapons because all you have to do is hang around long enough and you'll get some in drops. Now there is an annoying debate about whether or not some unlockable weapons are overpowered, and Valve seems too eager at times to tweak things base solely on knee-jerk complaints about a new weapon the day it comes out. And I admit, sometimes I think it would be better if the game didn't have all those unlockable weapons. But a lot of them are fun to play with and most of them don't get the complaints they used to. So I'd say it's worth coming back to at least to see if you'd want to stick with it.
