I haven't heard anyone mention anything in a long time about how Japan is doing. Are they still hurting or is everything better now? I would think they would still be going through a hard time but they must be doing fine or no one cares because I haven't seen or heard nothing.

I haven't really heard anything either, (although I haven't really been watching the news) but I hope they're ok.

Sorry I couldn't answer your question...

From what I've heard they're mostly worrying about the fallout from those damaged nuclear reactors.

It'll be a LONG time before everything is better.

It is far from fine. There's still problems regarding the reactors, especially the workers at the plants who are in extremely bad health right now.

There's still power shortages because the Fukushima-Daichi plant went offline. They're still trying to rebuild many houses that were smashed by the tsunami or knocked down by the earthquake, and a lot of people have been relocated to shelters. As far as the supply situation, no one is starving anymore, the efforts are going towards rebuilding.

It's funny how the news never follows up on these things. The day before the Japanese earthquake, a smaller quake in China killed 100 people. A month before that, there was that big earthquake in Christchurch that killed around 100 people. The news forgot about those stories to report on the Japanese earthquake, and now there hasn't been any followup.

Well, other than all the stories covering the reactor meltdown, which is a very minor crisis compared to all the earthquake damage.

The media doesn't stop reporting on catastrophes because they're over, they stop because they're bored with them. You don't honestly believe the media's goal and agenda is to inform and educate you?

They've still got trouble in Haiti for gods' sakes.

Actually I believe they got hit with another Earthquake, maybe not very recently but definitely after the media stopped talking about Japan. I just know because a Japanese friend posted a rant about it.

With regard to the nuclear incident, they have come up (as of wednesday) a plan to have the reactors at the Fukushima Daichi powerplant (think i spelled that right) to a cool shutdown within six to nine months, however thier current effort to drain the highly radioactive water in the basement and maintainece hallways have been realtively unsuccessful (as of thursday night). They have inacted restrictive entry laws for the exclusion zone, to protect the displaced citizens, who've been evacuated from the 20 km radius of Fukushima.
There have been reports of heavily radioactive water found in the ocean near the plant also crops have been affected by radiation. Children are not supposed to drink public water (botteled water only) and the general populace (within 50 km) have been informed that prolonged time outdoors may or may not increase exposure to radiation (this info may be old however)
Most of Japan is functioning at a normal pace but anything that was affected by the quake or ensuing tsunami is still very much crippled and scratching to get things back in order.
So in a word... no

As fine as a mildly xenophobic nation built on a constantly-shifting geological anomoly can be, all things considered.

Not to mention that the already troubled economy has been severely shaken.

Power cuts, Sony and Toyota are scaling back, increased spending...it's going to be a VERY long time before the country becomes even somewhat stable.

I'm pretty sure the whole nuclear thing is getting worse. It was about a week or so ago that they upgraded it to level 7 and increased the evacuation zone.
The media just doesn't stay with disasters when they can be reporting on how bad it is that a boy has pink nail polish and that The Situation just took his shirt off again.
Hands up if you hate the media
