Is Japan fine now?

I think this will answer your question

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/03/13/world/asia/satellite-photos-japan-before-and-after-tsunami.html

While that's a month ago, I'd solemnly predict a few years before anything is stable.

But with the Royal Wedding coming, it's not as important anymore.

I cannot understand why you would come in to this thread, just to say that?

Of course Japan isn't fine. Sadly, the Media gets bored very quickly and like PP, don't give a damn.

It is far from fine. There's still problems regarding the reactors, especially the workers at the plants who are in extremely bad health right now.
Now this is interesting news, could you link to it, please?

I haven't really thought much about the disaster, but this seems like something I'd have an interest in.
I saw it on the MSN frontpage a day or so ago. Sorry I don't have a link.

I should imagine it's still pretty bad there. Just the media got bored of it or something.
This. If it ain't blowing up or someone dying, the media just walks away from it.

Far from fine.

Its just that there comes a point where you can't keep reporting that "things are still really bad".

Japan a few weeks ago was hit with another huge after shock, several nuclear reactors have melt down and leaked radiation, radiation has gotten into local waterlines and the media stopped reporting because (as already stated) they lost interest in it.

It will take Japan years before major improvements start happening.

You think people in Queensland (Australia) have fixed everything yet after the massive flooding there? To my knowledge the impact of Hurricane Katrina still hasnt even been 100% fixed.
North Japan will be at a status of 'up shit creek' for a very long time especially if they have to wait for radiation to disappear.

You're joking, right? At least 14,208 people are dead, and with 12,384 missing it's a safe bet that number is going to rise. No country can recover from that in a month.

The media doesn't stop reporting on catastrophes because they're over, they stop because they're bored with them. You don't honestly believe the media's goal and agenda is to inform and educate you?

They've still got trouble in Haiti for gods' sakes.
New Orleans is still recovering as well. But that has been boring forever now.

Japan is still screwed.
They can't seem to stop the nuclear situation, and they HOPE they'll manage to lower radiation levels, prevent meltdown and start the cooldown of the reactors in 12 months. HOPE.
they're fucked.

A giant mutated iguana attacked Tokyo, and they're just covering that up by pretending to be disinterested.

But, seriously, no. This is something which will probably take decades to fix.

No, nuclear zone is out of action until beginning of next year at the earliest. To use an example people know of-the cleanup of Sept 11th took weeks, probably months, but it wasn't headline news after a couple of weeks. When something stops being profitable, the news stops reporting on it.

Japan is still recovering from the event. Rebuilding after any major disaster takes many months, years even.

No. Japan, or at least the part around Fukishima, is f***ed. Like forever. If you want more clarification, go on Wikipedia and look up a town called Pripyat, near the Chernobyl reactor site. That's what it'll look like in 20 years.

As for the rest of the country, they are carrying on as best they can. And they are doing it with poise and grace that we can only wish we had in America. (Refer to recent McDonald's hiring incidents, for clarification of American grace and poise).

I just read a story today that the Japanese government just approved a $50 billion dollar special budget to build $100K homes for all those displaced by the tsunami.

Now THAT is how you take care of your people.
