Is Left 4 Dead, dead?

I myself haven't played L4D for a long time before last week, having bought both L4D and L4D2 on their respective release weekends, and for the past week I've been trying to find online games to play on with literally no luck.

So, is it just my region - Australasia - or is L4D dead? I always thought the game would die a lot faster than, say, TF2 or Counter-Strike, because while the AI Director mixes it up, after a few hundred goes it really ultimately is the same thing over and over again.

And I've not seen a blog update in L4D2 that wasn't just advertising in a long-ass time. Has Valve just left it behind?

Well, not really. If I go online now, there are plenty of games being played. But you're right, it may depend to a certain extent on the region, I suppose. There's even that official skinpack coming out soon (RE6 Monster skins for some of the Infected in L4D2).

Just yesterday there was over 2000 people playing L4D (even more playing L4D2) and both games were in Steams Top 100 list during European Peak Hours. So I don't think it is dead.

I'm not sure if i would call 2000 people active ... But then again , that's at the very least 500 games so okay , my joke was wrong and i'll admit it .

And you only need 4 people for a full server (or I guess 8 on verses). L4D (1) died for me when every server had some stupid mod in it (jump 50 ft up, etc.), and I could never get into L4D2 for some reason.

Really for the age of the game those are good numbers (5 years ago) . Then you add in that many L4D players porbably own L4D2, it is even more impresive.

It's just your region. I can (North American) hop onto the L4D2 servers at almost any hour of the day and find at least one versus game. Mutations and realism are less populous, but they have people playing them in peak hours.

Define "a long-ass time." Valve added a new campaign (for free, no less) in 2012, and it got workshop support in 2013 - four and five years after its release, Valve are still adding stuff to L4D2.

Plus, y'know, mutations and such. They seem to have finally stopped with Follow the Litre (scavenge one group of gas cans at a time), but even that came several years after release.
