Is Metroid popular enough to sell the Wii U?

On a unrelated note, I wonder what Nintendo could give platinum to do after Bayonetta 2 if they want to treat them as in studio or 2nd party developers.
They're already managed to churn out Wonderful 101 as part of their Bayonetta 2 agreement with Nintendo (one for you, but one for us, in simple terms); I do hope they don't rush it, whatever it ends up being.

I'm not sure teabagging would have the same effect.
It wouldn't have teabagging. Samus doesn't crouch, she rolls up into a ball. It would be morph bouncing...or beading.

OT: I'm up for another Prime. I like Super, don't get me wrong, but after seeing a walk-through of Other M, I can say with certainty that going for that old school Metroid feel was a mistake. Everything about that game was inferior to Prime: the gameplay that either relied on autotargeting or clunky missile controls, the bland setting (that was practically recycled from Fusion) and monsters, and the fucking agonizingly terrible story.

Seriously, Team Ninja. I'm sure your other games are good, but don't do another Metroid.

Neronium said:
While Team Ninja wasn't the best, you two do realize that the story and events were written by Yoshio Sakamoto himself and not by Team Ninja. Team Ninja made the gameplay and engine, but Sakamoto is responsible for the story entirely.
And I can say that was also the worst part about it to. They tried to retcon Prime, but Other M will live on forever because it was the creator's baby. I hope he stays away from future installments.

Excuse me, I'm going to go weep in a corner now.

I don't know really, Metroid and Nitendo fans probably overlap 1 to 1 and Nintendo fans all already bought a Wii U so that would just sell to the existing audience.
While possible, quite a few Nintendo fans haven't bought a Wii U because Game Y hasn't came out yet (I would have said X but... well X is actually real). I'd imagine many are waiting for a Zelda before buying.

for me, yes. I will buy a console if they make another Non-Metroid Other M. Hands down. I'm strictly a PC Gamer but I Love my Metroid.

If they make a proper metroid title, and not what ever Other M was meant to be, I WILL buy a Wii U.

I haven't bought a U. The games are not interesting enough. Metroid could do that, but honestly probably not.
That being said, I have no desire to buy an Xbox one or PS4, so I'm probably totally PC biased

Not really.Despite it's rather vocal fan base Metroid has never been a massive selling series.According to VGChartz Prime 1 is the best selling game in the series with 2.8 million worldwide sales which isn't huge numbers.I'm sure there are people that would buy a Wii U if a new Metroid was released but I doubt it'd have a significant impact on sales

Not entirely unfortunately.
While many people are vocal about their love of Metroid, the sales indicate that it's not exactly the most popular series, nor a system seller
Starfox and F-Zero are in the same boat.A vocal fan base but unfortunately the numbers would suggest that there's not that much of a market for them certainly less than Metroid anyway

Because really the Prime games are the second most popular in the Metroid series, with Super Metroid being the most sold in the series and Prime 1 being second.
According to VGChartz(tbh I don't know how accurate their figures are)Prime 1 is the best selling title in the series selling around twice what Super Metroid managed

I think Smash Brothers and Zelda are the only ones that may increase the sales significantly now. As others have said, it's not the biggest seller. I fucking love Super Metroid and Metroid Prime, they are easily some of the best games I've ever played, but these days Nintendo just don't make 'em like they used to and it wouldn't make a difference to me till they go back to making games like they did. That might put a big spike in their sales you know, cause many agree with me, but of course it's a risk and they will only play it safe now.

I could see it being a motivator but will it move units the way a mario or zelda will? Hell no. First off, the most recent main installment was considered by most to be bad. Second, the N64 didn't have a metroid game on it. That's a whole generation of nostalgia that nintendo missed out on. Third, matroid prime, though critically acclaimed, was for the most part playing second banana to halo when it came to console FPS games at the time. Not saying halo is better, but more popular? I'd make that claim.

Let's just say personally I know plenty of people, gamers even, who have never played a metroid game. Definitely never met a gamer who hadn't played a mario.

Hm, while that sounds true one thing I don't really trust is VGChartz because they at times pull numbers out of nowhere since they often make predictions. One thing I do know though is that Super Metroid outsold Prime in Japan a lot because Japan aren't big on FPS games.

Don't worry, I'm a Sonic fan and have been through similar betrayals as well. *looks at Shadow the Hedgehog since by 06 Yuuji Naka had left Sonic Team and SEGA*

It might attract long time fans, but not people like me, i have never played metroid, i don't care much for platformers, so if they want to sell it to me they should have more options than those few tired franchises that they keep recycling endlessly. I guess it's already too late for the wii U, i don't know what it could do to attract people who aren't nintendo fans, probably nothing.

far as i'm concerned "X" is a system seller if half as good as xenoblade
only the combined power of a decent mario, zelda and metroid could make me buy the console right now
100% with you on X. Right now i'm prepared to by a Wii U and X if i dont buy another game on the system and i'll still consider it a good buy.

A really good Metroid might make me want the system but Mario isnt going anywhere except remake country and Zelda imo seems to be running out of steam

While Mario I won't argue, I say Zelda still has steam, but it's seeming like that steam is staying on handhelds, just like Mario it seems because Nintendo appears to be more creative on handhelds nowadays than when it comes to their home consoles, which is weird.

Maybe if a new reboot was made?, the gameplay of othe M was nice, story well i didn't mind it but a other people seem to hate it so I guess a reboot is necesary. I know everyone loves the prime series but imho it was ok, but I hope they ditch the FPS of Metroid and add ... more Metroid ? exploration some fine combat, heck I would like if they keep the other M combat.
