I am halfway through Skyrim and I think it's really really fun, but I hear that Morrowind is better. I'm also thinking about buying Morrowind. So, is Morrowind better than Skyrim and why it better?

No. Its demonstrably worse. Save your money for the skyrim dlc. Unless you like outdated graphics and irritating bugs/game play, that is.

Morrowind was one of those games that you had to be there at the time to properly appreciate it. Despite Morrowind being my all time favourite game, it cant be compared to the likes of skyrim.

Doesn't like outdated graphics.

Likes Skyrim.

???

OT: Morrowind has better gameplay in some areas, worse gameplay in others. If you like Skyrim as an awesome hiking simulator with RPG elements, you'll probably love (modded) Morrowind because it dials up the RPG elements and gives you a cool world to hike in. If you like Skyrim for the combat or stealth OTOH, Morrowind might not be your thing - the TES series had not yet made those aspects playable at that point.

There always going to be a feature here or two that wasn't carried out (sometimes because they're archaic but just what a specific gamer was use to and liked) which is going to raise the questions of whether game C is better than game A.

I found the setting in Morrowind to be a lot more interesting than the one in Skyrim. In Morrowind you get to explore a truly alien land, with a lot of interesting local customs that you just don't find in any other TES game. This makes exploring and getting to know the world in Morrowind a true joy. It is so different from anything else I've played, as far as setting goes.

Skyrim has its strong and its weak points compared to Morrowind. Apart from the lower amount of skills (which is in part offset by the perks), you are missing things like spellcrafting (and creating fun spells to play around with was one of the great joys of the earlier TES games), lower amount of spell effects and you also have fewer (handcrafted) quests in Skyrim. Skyrim is also a far more linear game in its approach to quests and story progression. On the other hand melee combat is more involved in Skyrim, and there is a better skill balance in general.

And Morrowind does not look bad. Through the wonders of modding (PC online), you get a game that in some important regards actually look better than Skyrim. The engine can't handle lighting & physics as well as later installments, but just look at this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?src_vid=9NX-MvnYUEs&feature=iv&hd=1&annotation_id=annotation_723879&v=uhuHaNX93_s].

If you have not experienced Morrowind, you owe it to yourself to do it. Get yourself some graphics mods, and enjoy one of the all time greatest CRPGs. Just don't expect the game to be as streamlined & user friendly as Skyrim.

I love Skyrim, but Morowind was better when it came out: much more complex, truely alien world, probably bigger world also.

If you dont mind reading a lot then get Morowind, since there is no voiceacting.

I still find Morrowind easy enough to get into. While the combat system leaves a lot to be desired, the story and environment is far and away more interesting. Morrowind is all about the different political factions struggling for dominance in a land only just taken into the Empire. It wasn't until I went and played through Oblivion that I realised the level of work and detail that had gone into the story.

I don't find the graphics too bad either honestly, just don't swap between it and BF3 or whatever.

Haven't plyayed Morrowind(yet) but I hear it's drastically different from Skyrim. An RPG in the literal sense, none of the streamlined nonesense that Skyrim has. Personally I think I like Oblivion better than Skyrim, even though I'm gonna end up putting more time into Skyrim.

Better in some ways, worse in others.

Morrowind still has superior atmosphere, a more interesting setting and much more choice overall.

Skyrim has better graphics and much better combat.

Morrowind has more depth in a lot of areas. It never compensated for the crappy combat for my part. If you can look past that, the game is supposedly really good. That's really an if, however, because I couldn't.

But really, there will always be people who said the precursors were better. I mean, I remember hearing people saying Daggerfall was better than Morrowind back in the day, there are still people that argue that the old Resident Evil games are better than RE4 and I'm still adamant that Tales of Symphonia is a good game even in face of it's better sequels(Dawn of the New World never existed). A lot of this simply stems from nostalgia. Take all "oh the old one was better" with a pinch of salt for this reason.

I really, really want to get into Morrowind and play it properly, it just seems like so much fun. But when I met my first enemy (a mudcrab) and got owned by it because apparently my character was so bad that he kept on missing it....yeah, I gave up there.

On a side note, don't play a Khajit in that game if you ever plan on taking your character serious and looking at him in third person from time to time. The walking animation for that race looks like they are wearing a full diaper.

There are the main differences between Morrowind and Oblivion.

Everything is going to be much harder, time consuming, and less streamlined in general pretty much.

I'd really like to see Morrowind remade with the combat improvements and streamlining from Skyrim, because I really want to know to get the world and all the quests an amazing looking storyline (looks like the best story in an TES game so far) but I think I'd find a lot of it very hard and time consuming.

I loved Morrowind when it came out; It was huge, detailed, and groundbreaking. I tried to play it shortly before Skyrim's release, realized running took fatigue, and uninstalled it. Compared to Oblivion and Skyrim, Morrowind is boring and slow. The world is more original, but a lot of things you've come to expect (radiant NPCs, voice acting, tight quest structures, and animations that aren't inadvertently hilarious) aren't there.

So in short, going back to Morrowind would mostly likely be very difficult. Don't expect to like it.

Including the way characters tend to walk by thrusting their groins forward?

Short answer, no, Morrowind is not better than Skyrim.

Long answer, no Morrowind is not better than Skyrim, but it's still miles better than Oblivion.

I really loved Morrowind, I sunk hours and hours into it. Through all that time though, I avoided all but the most necessary combat. If you can get around (or mod around) the poor combat, and the dated graphics and the walls of text, its a good time. The setting is more alien and was far more interesting to me. If you enjoy it and you can get a hold of the Bloodmoon expansion too I would recommend it, probably remind you of Skyrim a bit.
