I am having an overall better time with New Vegas than I've had with the previous fallout games, and I really like all of those games as well.

In nearly all things, "better" or "worse" is a wholly subjective judgment. "Different and in what way" is a more enlightened way of looking at it.

Fallout: New Vegas plays mostly like Fallout 3, albeit with some new factors such as hardcore mode and damage resistance. However, though it plays mostly the same, it does have a considerably different feel to the game world: less gray and desolate, more dusty and cowboyish - although still post-apocalyptic.

New Vegas is mostly a good pick if you're not so much sick of Fallout 3 as you are sick of seeing the same old sights, because New Vegas is basically a whole new continent to explore.

It depends. New Vegas has the same barren feeling that Fallout 3 has. If that's what you didn't like, you probably won't like New Vegas. But beyond that and the engine, nearly everything is different.

New Vegas FEELS like a true RPG. It's a lot more immersive. The story, faction system, and hardcore mode are all miles ahead of anything that was included in Fallout 3. There are a lot of different companions you can get, and they all have their own back stories and "companion quests," kind of like in Mass Effect 2. How you deal with each of them affects your ending. Certain combat skills, such as melee, have been drastically improved to remove monotony. The max level in vanilla is 30 instead of 20. Oh, and it isn't retarded easy or short like Fallout 3.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
I agree with most of this. But you need to like exploring. If you just focus on the main plot then it is still pretty short depending on how you go about it. Mind you that would be difficult without the hindsight of having played through the game at least once.

Second time I played it, just to see if it could be done. I played through the main plot without improving any combat skills and I finished it in under 5 hours.

The writing is a major improvement in my opinion.

It isn?t drastically different but it is different.New Vegas does story telling better and the faction system is interesting. Things also aren?t as disconnected from each other as they are in 3.

There?s a possibility you may like it but it might be best for it to drop in price or go on sale before you buy it.

The RPG elements are alot more refined in Fallout NV, but, expect to die about 3000 times faster than the immortal superman you were in fallout 3, cazadors are the bane of my existence... seriously, invest in the animal friend perk or you will be raped by demonic mutant flys
Animal Friend affects Cazadores?

Well, that's my perk list for the next character sorted.

New Vegas' reputation system makes for a more interesting experience, plus iron-sight aiming is great for sneak attacks from a distance. In all other respects, I prefer Fallout 3.

If you disliked Fallout 3, I can't say you'll like this one...
But I state this with a qualifier:
If the only reason you disliked Fallout 3 was the major disconnect from Fallout lore and atmosphere, then you'll probably love New Vegas.

Fallout: New Vegas is better than Fallout 3 but I like Fallout 3 better. Why? Because I prefer exploring DC downtown and metros than the Mojave Wasteland.

Very easy answer actually, Get the cheaper Fallout 3 on PC and then go to one of the many mod sites and spend a day or so looking for some of the better mods and you will end up with a game that does everything FONV does but in a better setting. New Vegas is made out to be some big goal on your overall journey but the fact is once you reach both it and the town of Freeide it is a massive let down the rest of the map is no more or less interesting than what appears in FO3 the bonus being that the DLCs for FO3 give it a big edge over NV.

Or you could just skip all that and get Oblivion which owns both of them.
