I think its more Batman fans are more annoying to be honest.

They are very defensive/touchy especially in vs threads.

Nope, not a fan of any superhero films, cartoons, comics or games really. It kind of makes at least 80% of this website hard to look at sometimes when that's all that the majority seem to talk about...

I don't mind the old Adam West batman, as it's funny. Batman Returns was alright, but mainly because of Danny DeVito (and Michelle Pfeiffer in that costume..)
Batman Forever was watchable, but only for Jim Carrey's performance and The Dark Knight is an OK film but I like it because it's more like a decent gangster film than a 'superhero' thing, and Heath Ledger is pretty good in it.

Arkham Asylum was also a decent game, but it was the gameplay that made it good - not because it was Batman.

Yes it is a crime.
You like what you like, and you pretend to like what others like, it's the natural order of things.
Conform. Confoooorm!

What I don't like about Batman is that he's very ineffective. He says that he only has one rule he won't ever break, and that's exactly the rule that keeps him as a placebo, since the legal system and prisons/sanitariums in the DC universe are revolving doors. Why do you think Jason Todd immediately got so popular after his resurrection? Most of it was because, even if for the wrong reasons, he said the things everyone, deep down, wanted to say to Batman.

The thing I hate about batman are his fanboys, rationality goes straight out the window, especially with the whole superman fight when they start making up these strange convoluted ways batman would win.

Then there is the age old line "he is normal, he just has money, so it makes him relatable" Sorry, he knows all kinds of martial arts and languages that take normal people decades to master and he's what? 40? He has a super human ability to learn!

Plus how the fuck do you relate to a billionaire? Never mind a crime fighter or an orphan (as I bet most still have there parents or lost them at an older age).

I think batman is a pretty ok character but this whole shit about being about to hang out with God like characters is a joke.

Yes. Yes it is.

I've reported you to the Batman police, you should expect a knock on the door within the next hour, then you'll be shipped off to the Batman correction facility.

I'm sorry, but you should know the rules about having an opinion on the internet.

I don't think its wrong not to like Batman, but I do think the way you presented yourself makes you sound kinda stuck up about it.

Im a Marvel fan, but honestly, I would say Batman is -the- greatest comic hero of all time. One of the things that makes him likable is that he is not perfect, but he is determined and creative. He often does end up in bad positions, but fights his way out, without it feeling unrealistic to him. As opposed to Superman who requires stupid methods to endanger him.

It is generally speaking just better to avoid die-hard fans of anything. Or rather, avoiding discussing the thing that they are a die-hard fan of. I don't know anybody who is into superheroes that much, and so the fact that I am not a huge fan of them in general doesn't cause any ire directed at me at all.

I do wonder if most things that people hate are not more down to the extreme fanboys and girls as opposed to the thing itself though. Because I cannot find anything particularly offensive about things such as Batman, Half Life and Neon Genesis Evangelion, but the way some people act you'd think they murdered their families.

So I suspect that even if some people are not aware of it, they are reacting more to the people who don't stop praising such things, as opposed to the things themselves.

I don't hate him, but I don't really like him either. He borders on Mary Sue territory.

OT; word puzzle is Melody Pond, interesting that I just finished s7 of Doctor Who on DVD.

I have no idea where you got that from. As Yahtzee already said, Batman's the least interesting character in everything he's in. Not all that many people like him, really. With me, it's more of a general apathy toward comic books. I can enjoy some elements of the batman universe but...

I do not like comics. I tried to read them once, specifically the 'Death of the Family' arc because I wanted to know why joker was wearing his own face as a mask all of the sudden. It wasn't good. Everyone took everything way too seriously despite the completely ridiculous nature of the premise; it was all dark and gritty in the most calculated and cynical way possible - so dark and gritty in fact that it came across as silly and cheesy. So no, not a fan.

I like some of the villains - or at least the idea behind them. Joker, for instance - and yeah, I know that's a really obvious pick - is a thoroughly interesting character. Unpredictable, smart, psychotic, always with that grin of his even though he's clearly dead inside. I liked the second film, because Nolan's spin on the Batman universe was genuinely well put together and quite engaging. I LOVED the first two Arkham games to death. But I do not like the comics and I do not like Batman as a character. He's just... bland. Boring. Uninteresting. And that outfit of his is ridiculous. I mean, really. How does comissioner Gordon not piss himself with laughter every time Batman turns up on his roof?

Batman's like the Call of Duty of comic books. I don't hate him for that, I just wish people would drop the Bat-Fetish once in a while. He's not all that interesting a character in most media.

Spiderman, well, Spiderman is very silly yes. At least his outfit isn't designed to intimidate, and Spiderman is generally much less serious in tone than Batman anyway, often cracking jokes while fighting crime. I assume the venom suit was created to make him look less silly, and I think it works to some extent.
I must say, I really like the fact that Spider-Man's in-universe explanation for the constume is that it was designed to look good on television.

That being said, it becomes super silly that he sneaks around almost as much as Batman and nobody notices the big red-and-blue thing in broad daylight.

Of course it is a crime to not like Batman now internet police arrest him.

But seriously you can have whatever opinion you want I have just be prepared to deal with assholes who can't take it when someone has a different opinion then them. Although Batman fans tend to be fairly obsessive from what I have seen in my experience and take any criticism with a deadly serious attitude.

Batman is a goddamn moron
Giving second chance is honorable decision, giving third chance if circumstances somehow redeems villains is ok, but giving villain 854265654565th chance to kill, to torture, to...
Fuck it!
Jason, explain this!
And no Batman, your excuse is huge pile of steaming bullshit.
There is compassion and forgiveness, and the there is Batman-level stupidity
After 3rd time villain comes back, blood of his/her victims is also on your hands
Batman is mass co-murderer at this point

P.S. I would rather trust Badman
to guard my safety, than Batman

I enjoy the contrast between his world and his nature as a hero. His world is gothic, his nature is good. I've not yet seen the 3rd Dark Knight movie, but I've seen the first two. I don't like how the 2nd one ended at all.

I think he works very well in the Arkham games because it feels great to be Batman, but I think the ethos is wearing away. We've seen everything from silly Batman to serious Batman and he's kinda done now.

I really don't think we need another movie for sure, nor do we need another TV series or cartoon.

Is not liking Batman a crime?

Yes.

Expect Batman to show up at your house momentarily for your mandatory sentence of being beaten to a bloody pulp, followed by 6 months in Arkham Asylum.

...But no, seriously, I understand if you don't like him and think he's a boring one dimensional superhero. That's fine. Everyone dislikes certain heroes for whatever reason, and unless you look at the bigger picture, Batman really does appear to be a an emo rich guy.

I disagree, but I understand how some people think that.

The thing you overlook is that there is one thing that scares Batman. One thing that terrifies him.

And that is becoming like his enemies. He's afraid that if he kills a villain, that the next time a villain shows up, he'll go "why even bother with second chances? It never seems to work." and kill him. And then next time "Ok, this guy is dangerously close to becoming a villain. Better nip this in the bud before he kills anyone. DEAD". And then "this person is enabling a bad guy. DEAD". And then he'd let himself fall further and further down the slippery slope until he's essentially a villain himself.

Would this necessarily happen?

No.

I don't even think it's that likely, given how strongly he sticks to his morals. But he's scared shitless of the possibility. So he sticks to his super rigid sense of morality because he's convinced that one slip up will be all that he needs to go over the edge. He'd rather let a hundred people die because he didn't kill someone than kill one person to potentially save a hundred, because he's too scared to take a life himself and deal with the results.

Is he stupid? Maybe. But being scared does that to you.

I think one of the comics dealt with that. They made one where he kills joker and then goes over the edge and goes on a gotham wide manhunt to kill every last villain he's ever fought. And it's apparently not pretty at all...

Captcha: Nut case. Wow, even Captcha agrees. Batman IS insane!
