is One Piece worth my time?

Its got lots a good bits but has a slow boil equal to that of holding lighter under a swimming pool your well with in your rights to just give up around 10 eps in.

Also is the only anime to make me cry :'C Japan/english subbed or fun ( clannad didn't make me cry and shut up)

I have a friend who is interested in one piece and after seeing an amv I thought that the show looked interesting. However, I know there are hundreds of episodes and the series isn't even finished. I generally don't watch anime over seventy or so episodes because they rarely hold my attention.
I was wondering if one piece has an interesting enough story line and good enough characters to be worth hundreds of hours watching it.

also, I heard that the Dub version was really bad when held up to the sub. if this is true it will effect my willingness to watch it.

That depends on you but if you do decide to watch all of it for the love of god skip the Davey Back Fight arc. You will never get that time back.

For me,I couldn't watch it past this one point with a desert city,but that is because I kind of outgrew the random momentness of most anime.It is good if you don't mind it being weird as all heck

Here's a tip: skip around the early eps. Only see the ones that seem REALLY important. Use a wiki page and read the description if it seems the ep. is worthwhile. And while there is little filler, SKIP ALL OF IT.

It's a great series, just a LOT to catch up on, and there is a VERY big difference in pace between the first couple hundred and the rest of the anime.

There's a reason One Piece is still one of the Big 3 of Shounen Jump.

And as far as the Dub is concerned, watch the Funimation Dub. (Which you can find free on their One Piece Website), as the 4kids Dub was terrible.

Shounen in general, isn't worth anyones time. I've watched some of it. It never ends and it's not even good in general. If you want good characters and story, you should watch seinen.

While I agree with you in most cases you can't really make that generalization.

Dragonball was shounen and that was worth everyones time!

It's already been kind of said but, READ it in it's manga form. One Piece is an amazing series (IMO) and I would tell anyone it's worth their time. However, watching 500 episodes most of which is filler (Whole filler episodes and flashbacks for about 75% of an episode which contains any actual plot advancement) is not something anyone should do. I watched every episode up to the Thriller Bark arc, at which point I had caught up to it coming out weekly and decided to read all the manga from the beginning. I have since read the entire manga a total of 3 times and read the chapters as they come out weekly.

The story is brilliant, of all the anime and manga I have ever seen, One Piece has the most awesome characters. Other series' will have one or two good people, OP has tons of amazing people. One Piece is seriously worth getting into, just don't spend 25 minutes watching an episode the contents of which you could read in about a tenth of the time.

I really can't recommend it.
I have a few friends who love it but according to them it doesn't get good until 300 chapters in. That's the manga, btw, but I reckon with filler and such then it's still a long way into the anime.

I tried to watch it but I couldn't get more than about 0 episodes in without being bored to death.

Go worth your first instinct and ignore it. The manga is decent if you're into that sort of thing, but the anime? Tragically overrated, not worth the week of your life you'd lose trying to catch up to what's happening in episode 1,800,000,000.

Try History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, Mirai Nikki or Medaka Box. They're 3 of my favourites

That's not completely accurate. There's a lot of garbage being printed/broadcast for that demographic, but the demographic alone isn't exactly descriptive of the series' content. Azumanga Daioh, for instance, is Shounen. It has absolutely nothing in common with One Piece, but it's still a part of the same demographic.

I would, however, recommend staying away from anything related to Shounen Jump. That magazine is guilty of crimes against humanity.
