Is playing FPSs on the PC worth it anymore?

The problem PC has which is long standing is shitty developers like IW not bothering with the PC version of their games. Ghosts is especially bad at this as it lacks basic things like FOV sliders , anti cheat and dedicated and player run servers.
At least when Trayarch make a COD game they work a lot better and the PC port is decent so you can't even really blame Activision here.

Also if you think hacking is a PC only thing then you are going to have a bad time. It is rampant on consoles as well, but at least if a FPS on PC is done right then either anti cheat systems or server admins can deal with cheaters.

Judging PC shooters based on a shitty port from consoles that lacks almost everything most PC shooters take for granted these days (such as dedicated servers) isn't very fair.

PC FPS is IMO far superior to the console FPS experience.

(Also, The Escapist is a fairly "PC Master Race"-centric site, so even if there were some reasons why FPS on pc might be inferior (there aren't) this is still probably the answer you'd get asking that here.)
I dunno, I don't really have plans on playing anymore BF3 after i put it down in 2011, enjoyed BC2 on my 360 and had some good times but now I play BC2 on PC I've got servers (non EA owned) that either have the same map or 1000 tickets on just one map and most are full of people either base camping you after they cap everything or spouting abuse in text chat, that and Russians speaking russian on english based servers.

The same more or less on both Transformers game but now their multiplayer bases are all but gone (FOC came out in 2012 that's not long ago) due to hackers ruining the overall experience and yes Acti not doing a thing about it at all and even once more having Russians involved (even on the Steam forum boards there's plenty of Russian topics and hacking tips).

I enjoy playing Planetside 2 from time to time but grinding for certs all the time and losing to massive zerg armies isn't always my ideas f fun and I don't play COD games anymore (last was BLOPS back in 2010) and never going to touch BF4 for the emss it;s in, so to say PC FPS gaming is somewhat superior is a bit of an understatement and also becomes an opinion and not some fact.

The only two FPS I'm looking forward to this year are Titanfall and Wolfenstein.

Games like Ghosts are a prime target for PC hacking due to their popularity, after COD 2 i played the sequels on console but i decided with Ghosts i'd go back to PC since the port for BLOPS2 was pretty good, nope, the port for PC isn't great... and i wonder if not delivering to PC fans gave the hackers even more reason to break it since BLOPS2 isn't hacked as much.

Games which are supported by their developers, like CS:GO and BF4, have a much greater audience so finding games without hackers is a lot more common, i've only seen 2 verifiable hackers in the latter, not sure i've ever seen hackers in the former but the game is so twitch based it's hard to tell, non in Red Orchestra, a couple in Planetside 2.

Console is of course not impervious to hacking and COD4 is fairly populated by them now, but with PC it seems to take a dedicated and supportive developer to keep a game clean.

CoD on the PC seems to be semi-notorious for hacking, at least lately. I remember modern Warfare 2 was pretty bad when it came to hacking (although MW1 and previous titles I never had any problem).

That said, I still prefer to play FPS on PC. Controls are just so much better. There are some FPS that work really well on console (halo for example).

For example, borderlands 2. Getting headshots is much harder on the console (which makes snipers kinda useless), the graphics are terrible, the console craps the bed with just a little gunfire and causes the game to start skipping, you cant aim down the sights because it causes the game to skip, the resolution is terrible, the texture pop in is really terrible, etc etc.

Dead Island is another example. Jump kicks and bashing heads are much easier to manage on the PC. PC just allows much easier fine tuning of your controls.

Now, third person shooters, that is where the console shines in my opinion.

I played CoD Ghosts last weekend and it was simply terrible and such a lousy port. I'm not buying another Infinity Ward game ever again. Also the speed of the game was so slow compared to Titanfall it's not even funny.

With that said, no FPS on PC's is not dead because you can't beat the mouse and keyboard combo no matter what. Hackers can go fuck themselves, I'll try another server if I encounter any.

Admittedly, my CoD: Ghosts experience was ruined by CoD: Ghosts just being generally bad. Edgy, I know. But yeah, I just really didn't like the game, singleplayer or multiplayer. It's the first time to date that I've been genuinely disappointed by everything in a Call of Duty title.

That said, I didn't encounter any hackers in the PC multiplayer in roughly 50 hours of play. At least not any overt ones. I've put roughly a combined 1500 hours into the Infinity Ward Call of Duty multiplayers since CoD4 (oh God, what have I done with my life?!), so I've gotten pretty decent at spotting who is actually hacking and who is just really damn good at the game (spoiler: most hackusations are complete bullshit made up by sore losers).

Anywho... the only game in the series that I played on both console and PC was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. I have roughly 300 hours logged on the X-Box 360 and roughly 300 logged on Steam. Between the two, I honestly don't think either of them really had that many more hackers than the other. The PC crowd might have had it slightly more often, but not by much (granted, I'm talking about during the game's heyday, not its current state).

Hackers don't really ruin the game for me. I just leave game, go get a drink or something, then queue back up. I'm not super concerned with my win/loss ratio.
