Is PS3 Wii and PC Not getting a Good Deal in Gaming

Yellow light can mean a few things. The disk-reading laser in my PS3 blew once. Cheap, easy fix. My mates 360 overheated and died the first day he got it...one hot Australian Christmas day.
In truth im a PS3/PC gamer. They have the features/exclusives which appeal to me, whereas the 360 doesnt. I still agree that it is a good console, but it's not superior.

I think your preference in console really comes up to what you look for in a gaming platform.
Im going to throw a yahtzee quote here: "Speaking as a person who is white enough to afford all the consoles, this is probably the most balanced generation of all time, with it all coming down to what you personally want from the console".

I thought the 360 gets DLC and whatnot sooner because it's easier to develop and put onto a DVD as opposed to development for the Blu Ray format. As for the Wii...I have no idea what's going on there. All I know is I don't know how to make motion controlled games (not suggesting I can make games in general: I'm just saying motion gaming may be more difficult to produce in general than standard games)

PC gamers seem to get the best deal as their format is the PC. Outside of gaming they have the entire internet for supplemental entertainment. Even if you're just playing games there are hundreds of free games and scores of websites featuring free games (like Newgrounds, Kongregate, etc.)

Hmm. So not so much RRoD as a warning that shit is about to, as they say, get real. Interesting, but it seems oddly non-specific.

It does make me chuckle though that while my flatmate has had to have his PS3 repaired, and had to replace his hard drive for some reason, my 3-year-old Xbox is still chugging merrily along without any issues. Mostly because at the time I bought it, he was taking the piss out of my choice because of the Xbox's failure rate :-D

And you don't get nearly as high failure rates as the 360.
And the thing can move when it's playing without killing the disc.
That's an odd thing to look for in a console. Mine got kicked over once (at a hotel; generally I'm not foolish enough to keep it where people will trip over it) and you're right, it really did a number on the disc. Even worse, the game was a rental.

In terms of balance, there really isn't much between the two consoles, however much die-hard fans would want you to believe it. In my flat, which console is played the most generally depends on which of us buys a game - for a while the PS3 was on every night for Bad Company 2, but now AC: Brotherhood on the Xbox has overtaken it for the online play. Other than the controller in your hands, the experiences are generally so similar that you forget which console you're using.

Depends on what you want. Thanks to MS negotiations and willingness to spend money, you get a lot of timed exclusives for the XBox. And the downloadable title selection is a lot better than on the PS3, possibly due to similar strategies (we know Team Meat agreed with MS to never make SMB for the PS3 because Sony was not interested).
If you are patient and are trying to spend as little as possible, the PS3 has a slight lead. PSN sales are rarer than XBLA sales, but usually go down further; your typical XBLA Deal of the Week is just 33% off, your typical PSN sale is 50% off, and they use real money as currency and not some made up points and are cheaper (in Europe, at least) to begin with.
The PC blows both clean out of the water, of course. No other platform sees such rapid decline in software prices as the software ages. It's not rare to see former full price games (good ones, too) on sale for five bucks after just a year.

Not sure what the OP is talking about.

PC has everything Xbox does thats worth a crap anyway and if you throw a Wii and/or PS3 in there its quite easy to say that owning a 360 would just be an enormous waste of money.

I agree a bit.
The New Vegas DLC, the Crysis 2 demo the bland overpriced Blops DLC, but I suppose XBL players pay for it, mehh its still really annoying to look forward to a game so much then to not get a demo while people who have never even heard of the game get the demo (Crysis 2)

I suppose the 360 get better deals with FPS games, due to the popularity of COD on the 360, mehh more has to happen for me to be actually pissed off, like if only the 360 got a Brink demo, or RAGE demo.

You do know OP, if you have a PS3, Wii and a good Pc, you can play literally 95 per cent of all new games that come out.

I rest my case.

I don't think it's a case of PS3, Wii and PC not getting a good deal, but rather Microsoft willing to pay for an illusion of a better deal. DLC that comes out a week or two earlier than PS3 doesn't really matter in my eyes, I've never been so anxious for DLC for a game that I couldn't wait. Some of the exclusive content is nice I suppose but really I think the argument is moot. I dislike playing on a PS3 because the controller is too small for my giant dustbin-lid hands. That's all it comes down to for me.

Other than the 'Cross Box' having some exclusive or timed exclusive content, I dunno what you mean

I mean, the Ps3 has a much more varied exclusive library as well as exclusive content for big games like Arkham Asylum

Titles are what makes a console great and right now the only exclusive properties Xbox has are Rare games, Gears, Halo, Fable and Forza really...and that doesn't make a great variation and it definately doesnt give the Ps3 a bad deal...

Wait the Wii? What are you saying? The wii having an almost complete library of exclusive games, dlc and arcade games and the biggest audience around...no I disagree completely

Personally, for me, it's always been about the games only. Downloadable content and other perks aren't important. It's just icing on the cake if you like that sort of thing, which I don't really. I don't care if one has this and the other has that if it's online only stuff. Like Netflix (I think both the Xbox 360 and PS3 has it...I know the PS3 does). I don't care that my PS3 can now do Netflix. I never used it anyway. Downloadable stuff doesn't bother me either. I don't want to pay for extra stuff in game most of the time and downloadable games don't have much appeal.

Now, I can't speak for PC, or even the 360, but PS3's got a strong heading now I think. It started out weak, but it's getting better every day, competing with the 360. And the Wii is in a whole different league of it's own. Or it was until Move and Kinetic came out, though we'll have to wait and see just how much they really can compete. Even so, it's unrivaled in it's niche market.

Just like with every generation of consoles, each one has their advantages as well as their disadvantages. They all fill their own need, and that's all the console wars have ever been about.

What kind of moron would you have to be to try moving ANY console while the disc is running?
Indeed it is.
Suppose it falls?
Well, and I've heard of people ringing their discs because they had their system verticle and someone walked by at just the wrong moment with just the wrong amount of stength, thus ruining the game. And it's not just one or two. It was many, many. I lost count. Everyone who brought in a "ringed" game said they had their console verticle. I know it sound ridculous, but it's true.

Why do you keep saying "Cross Box", with random capitalization over and over. It seems a little creepy and makes me not understand your post in general.

Why do you call it 'Cross Box'?
Scratch that, I don't care. Why do you type it out for everyone else as Cross Box? It seems like a legit thread, with a legit discussion...so why make it potentially confusing with obscure, or personal, nick-names for things? I had no idea what you were talking about until the end, and I just had to ask: 'Why?'
I just don't get it.

Anyways: I don't think any console, strictly on the merits of beyond-game content (DLC, demos, internet services, etc.) has anything 'up' on any other console. They all have exclusives in one way or another, and are all a bit different. I mean, I have my preference, but if we're talking objectively, I don't think any is 'better' then another.
DW i Fixed it Reason why i say Cross box is that in Russia all my mates called it the Cross Box Because my friend Krill attacked his Xbox with a Axe and made a Cross on top of the xbox.

Other than the Wii, I think the 360 is getting the worst deal in gaming.

MS has hardly any exclusives for it now, it's the least powerful, you have to pay for the online "services" (I refuse to call allowing me to play the game I've just bought a service, with a straight face), many indie developers have denounced it as a nightmare to deal with MS for, and there's no Steam.

I have a PS3, 360 and PC, and if you could only get two, the PC and PS3 combo is the way to go. Especially since a number of the 360's exclusives (be they DLC or full games or whatever) are actually Microsoft exclusives and pop up on the PC.

Can we forget the cross box thing it's not that important and actually i think it's kinda catchy. I'm going to call it that from now on. Back on topic microsoft can afford to drop their prices since they are a computer company they earn enough money that it doesn't effect them to drop there prices. I know sony is an electronics company but microsoft is bigger than sony. Remember that there are tons of electronic companie that sell the same things that sony sell but there isn't that much competition for microsoft. Also games for PS3 take a lot longer to make and a lot more money. Even if a game is on both cross box and PS3 the ps3 version will cost more becasue it's better and much more expensive to make. i know i have neglected the wii becasue i hate the bloody thing and pc games are expensive because no one really plays games on computer any more. thats why cross box games are cheaper.
I just want to point out that Sony is way more then an Electronics company. They they make films and produce music as well as make everything electronic. They are at the very least just as large as Microsoft.

Anyway back on topic

Honestly they are pretty even at the moment as far as consoles go. PS3 recently has been getting a lot of breaks from third party developers that they haven't got in the past.

XBOX gets its fair share of exclusive DLC and games but PS3 gets theirs as well. PS3 gets an HD version of extraction (the dead space Wii rail shooter) with move support. PS3 owner will also be getting 2 copies of portal and Steamworks cross-platform support. They As far as between consoles away currently have Angry Birds exclusively.

Also all major releases here in the USA anyways launch at the same price point regardless of the console it is on. So I am not sure where that belief is coming from.

It is hard to feel bad for Wii since it has been dominating the market this generation, but Wii owners are the one that are getting the short end of the stick. Muti-platform releases are almost nonexistent on the Wii.

I'd actually argue that the 360 is getting the worst deal in gaming.

Sure they get a few small games and DLC early, but they barely have any exclusives left, you have to pay subscription for online and for some reason MS are bitchy about third parties actually being nice to people. That's among other smaller reasons anyway.

On the other hand;
- PC's are flexible as hell with a massive catalog of games
- Wii's are really cheap and have some brilliant first party titles
- and PS3's are up to their neck in exclusives, and are basically a net for Xbox's old exclusives too

No one tries to move it. The first time I I got my Xbox I had to adjust the video cables at the back because everything was blueish green when I first booted up Gears of War 1. I moved the console forward a bit so I could take a look when I heard a horrible crunching sound which I found out to be the 360 carving a ring on my disc. -_-

I had to buy the game AGAIN. So yeah thank god for the PS3.

MS pays the devs to do this.

WTF? Xbox games cost just as much as PS3 games. LOL you didn't know that after like 4 years?
