Alright, everybody. That settles it.

It's factual. Actually factual. And you just can't argue with the facts.

But it's a fact that B cell is wrong. So how can his facts be facts if they're factually not facts? 0_0

The thing that made Max Payne was the narration and the noir tone, the shooting mechanic while innovative for it's time, was really simplistic and kinda gimmicky... I think we all gave it a pass because the writing was just solid.
On the other hand i really enjoyed the bullettime mechanic of Max Payne. Though it was the story that really made it unique at the time. I havent seen anything done quite like it yet.

Thank you, everyone in this thread for ripping Brain-Cell's baseless assertion of Quantum Break being some kind of spiritual successor to Max Payne to shreds. Faith in my fellow gamer has been restored. This nimrod has been toting this half baked notion from forum to forum for some time now and I'm glad all of you, to a person has each illustrated just how ridiculous his claim is.

It's petty, but everyone's reactions to this thread has given me a profound sense of joy hahahaha.
I respect your opinion my friend but this is factually correct that Max payne 3 is not Max payne. Quantum break is true follower of Max payne and will have sam lake quality of writing and atmosphere.
I hope you're not getting those "facts" from the same person convincing you to hype hitman lol. Dat stealfs gameplay tho, right Brain-Cell?

Hitman series always has AI issues. even blood money has. im hyping it because it looks like blood money 2.0 which i always wanted. especially how bad absolution turn out.

MP3 had the gameplay down. The story tone? Not so much. There was a romantic poetic quality to Max's despair in the first two games, but by 3 that's stripped away and it's just... despair. And theres nothing wrong with the story, I actually think it's a good story. I like that Max has the money by the end of the game, he's stopped drinking and might actually finally find peace. That's okay. But the stylistic choices they made.... Didn't ruin the game, it ruined the Max Payne-ness.

So... okay, this new game has a bullet time mechanic but unless it has it's main character narrating how the "The wind blew the snow down the street with the same violent temper that filled my own soul. My barretta stirred nervously under my coat, seemingly knowing before I did that things were about to get heavy. I pushed the button to call the elevator, the unit gave a mocking cackle as it flashed DENIED in bright bold letters."

Ya know, that type shit? Then it's not Max Payne-like to me.
A romantic, poetic quality? I think you're referring to the narration of Max sounding completely deadpan. In Max Payne 3, he starts actually expressing emotion for once.

The art-style of Max Payne was - drab, depressing. It made up for that by awkward, out-of-place comic relief that silenced the mood dead in its tracks and were more moments of oddity, mesmorizing - more than comically relieving.

The soundtrack of Max's life still playing over a reading of a silly, children's newspaper comic, somehow still drowning out its cheerfulness and felt more like a clown roasting the deceased of a funeral, made up of grieving friends, relatives and a depressed widow, filled with about as much enthusiasm and joy for anything as her spouse's corpse.

You essentially said that an entirely drab environment, ridiculous characters, unwelcome comic relief and a man with about as much emotion as a drone (an impossible lack of emotion usually associated with a mental illness than ill-will or a bad mood) is what truly makes a Max Payne game?

C'mon, seriously. I contest that thought. It was noir, yes, but just because something is prettier than it used to be, more visually engaging - doesn't mean it can't still have its own darkness. The third one doesn't get you by the eyes, it gets you by the people, the settings, the mood.

To compare - countries can manage to look beautiful, but still be depressing and underwhelming to live in.

You don't respect his opinion, also where is the source for that fact?
