Though I'm not really all that nationalistic, I was reading a book and stumbled on this quote so I shared it on facebook. I wrote this on my Facebook wall

"For the sake of historical truth I must verify that only the Greeks, of all the adversaries who confronted us, fought with bold courage and highest disregard of death."
-Adolf Hitler, Reichstag, 4 May 1941
Is it in poor taste?
Does this make me pro-hitler?
A nazi?
Does it make me seem like I call him a good source to seek approvement?
How would an employer react to this?

I don't think it's in poor taste, it's not like you're declaring yourself a Nazi. I suppose it really depends on which quote you're using...but to me, that quote looks perfectly fine.

It's kind of poor taste, depends on who reads it.
No it doesn't make you pro-Hitler. You'd have to agree with what he did.
No you're not a Nazi. Again you'd have to agree with what he did and continue to uphold his ideals.
Possibly but if it was one quote one time then in my opinion no.

Employers are finicky, some may shun you, most won't care I think. I could easily quote Stalin and it'd just show my knowledge of a certain dictator.

It'd be bad if you quoted Hitler on how bad the Jews needed to die, but this is just him praising one of his enemies. An employer shouldn't see this as a terrible thing, since a stopped clock is right twice a day and whatnot, but they might just because it's Hitler.

nope, your not a Nazi (even though being a Nazi doesn't mean your automatically a bad person. Just look at John Rabe).

Not terribly on topic, but are employers actually looking at their employees' Facebook pages? I thought that was just a bunch of bullshit that news stations claimed in order to scare the shit out of people and force them to censor themselves in their own personal free time.

...sure am glad that I don't have a Facebook page.

I can't find the quote, but I remember some one saying there is no higher praise than that from your foes. Sounds like Hitler was impressed with the Greeks. Sounds like a great quote if you are pro-Greek.

That sounds like he is congradulating the Greeks for being hardcore. So no. Just because a person is evil doesnt invalidate that statement, or make you a Nazi for quoting it.

Nope, it's generally fine. Hitlers talking about the Greeks that he is enemies with, after all. Its apperent what context this is in. The only concern you list is your employers. One might get a little touchy about that. Who knows?

It's fine. Fuck the press, fuck people, if you find something* that seems like something you want to quote, you quote it and you ignore those people who would tell you not to quote Hitler >.>

It depends. Are you using one of Hitler's quotes talking about the blight that is the Jew? Then yeah, pretty poor taste and you're someone I want to slowly back away from.

The quote you used? Nah, that's fine. Some employers might take umbrage with it, but if you're worried about that you shouldn't even be involved with online social networking.

To the type of person who has an issue with that quote:
Just because Hitler said it, doesn't make it wrong. Hitler liked dogs, does that make dog lovers Nazis? Hitler ate sugar [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HitlerAteSugar], does that make sugar concentrated evil?

I admire Stalin and Hitler among others for their leadership skills though I completely disagree with their methods and their actions. So on that note, no - you're not automatically a Nazi or anything. That's my cents worth anyway.

Off topic a bit: I would avoid quoting *person's name here* in front of another who I know has issues with said person.

Hitler was the biggest dickbag in human history and if there's any justice in our universe, he's getting sodomized by dinosaurs in Hell right now (the same punishment I hope Che Guevara got), but he did conquer most of Europe... I suppose that makes him quotable. As long as you're not trying to flame Jewish people.

I believe that quoting Hitler is generally in poor taste, due to who he was and what he did, but whether it makes you pro-Hitler and a nazi is up to you. However, quoting someone generally indicates approval to some degree, and I think a potential employer would look at it askance.

If you're Greek that's absolutely fine because you're taking pride in how strongly you opposed one of the worst monsters of the 20th century.

If you're not Greek it's still not bad, exactly, but it is odd.

I think the Russians, at least from a commanders standpoint, had the highest disregard for death.
The Zap Brannigan approach if you will:
"The killbots? A trifle. I knew they all had a built-in kill limit. It was simply a matter of sending wave after wave of men at them until they reached their limit and shut-down."

My friend has a Hitler quote in his yearbook but he ain't a Nazi. So no, he isn't a Nazi. It's funny that the yearbook committee didn't notice it.

As for bad taste? Well it isn't preaching his racial policies or his most extreme beliefs. If we refuse to learn from the monsters of our Grandfather's time, we might not be able to identify the ones of our time. Generally quoting Hitler isn't considered a good move (especially if you have your Facebook open for employers to read) but it really shouldn't mark you out as an extremist.
