So, maybe if some of you who know my name around this forum, you know I was either in the market for or have gotten a new computer. Well, I did buy one recently, and have been deciding upon mouses and keyboards. I researched some a bit on my own, and then I hit up the search bar to see what kind of similar things would be already in the forum, and one company kept showing up so much, it almost seemed redundant. Razer. While I'm not going to play expert on this, I did notice that when compared to mouses of similar quality, they seemed to be cheaper, but only slightly. They did look quiet good, and the high tier stuff did look almost amazing. But I wasn't seeing anything that would make this company be on the lips of everyone that found out about them. In other words... I saw nothing jaw dropping.(Naga not withstanding) But then I saw something that did make my jaw drop.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826570005

For those too lazy to look, its a 5600dpi mouse for just 70$, I couldn't find anything that was that cheap that went that high in dpi. I think theres some Razer nagas in a similar range, but naga is an MMO mouse, and I'm an FPS kinda guy.

Well, some of you might say, "Well, what about keyboards?"

I'm going with this:
http://www.ttesports.com/products/product.aspx?g=feature&s=3

So, I say these, not to stand on above you and say, "SEE!? You are all wrong!" But more or less, "Prove me wrong, I wanna learn." Because I'm new to this game, and I want to understand why Razer really is worth the price.

Check out the R.A.T. 7. Or the R.A.T. 9 for wireless. You'll be able to make your own mouse with it.

I've always been a fan of Logitech and Cyborg. Razer to me was just expensive generic stuff. None of their stuff really had the features other products did. I love my Logitech G19 keyboard.

I though Logitech products were the highest rated ones. Them G9s and 15s and whatnots. Also I never saw the point of "gaming mouse", my mouse only has to withstand the abuse I put it through and you don't really need dpi, I'm completely satisfied with my 5$ mouse from Genius.

P.S. Nice keyboard bro.

I looked at those, kinda more than I want to pay. If I was going all out, though, thats defiantly the one I would get, that thing is just stunning... just.. wow.

Razers are very good on paper. They offer a very good suite of features.

But from all indications I've seen, they are very prone to trouble. The cable leading into the mouse is not secured as well as it should be and various users have reported that the cable has become unattached during normal use, bricking their mouse ( unless you're really good with a solder gun I guess ). The teflon feet can come off and are sometimes not well machined ( some feet are taller or shorter than others so your mouse isn't perfectly parallel to the surface ). The drivers have compatibility issues. My little brother's Razer his stops working for half a second or so at very regular intervals. My Razer's scroll wheel is completely defunct and scrolls in whatever direction it damn well feels like scrolling in.

Both of us have since replaced our mice with Logitech G9x's ( which can regularly be had for like USD30 ).

But if you get a Razer that works without issue, you'll love it.

I've always found construction on Razer products to be pretty shoddy compared to others. Personally, I always use Microsoft mice; They aren't crazy-dpi, but they work well and last forever. Otherwise you probably want to go with Logitech or maybe Saitek. I'm not an FPS kind of guy though, so there may be a difference there.

The drivers have compatibility issues. My little brother's Razer his stops working for half a second or so at very regular intervals. My Razer's scroll wheel is completely defunct and scrolls in whatever direction it damn well feels pleases. Its hilariously annoying.

I play a lot of MMO's. This pretty much changes faceroll, to fingeroll. The latter is easier, and it's worth the money. As for keyboards, I've never tried Razer, I hear the Logitech G19 or whatever the fuck is good though, you can make macros on the left side of the keyboard.. or something.

I'm kinda confused... I straight up mentioned this in the OP, and even stated I'm an FPS guy.... I don't understand what you're getting at, can you clarify?

No matter what brand you pick always look at a ton of reviews and look for recurring problems, granted no product will ever be 100% , but you'll at least find one or two that will work for you and odds are you won't run into the recurring problems. For example I bought a logitech mouse, love it to death, but the Teflon wrapping is coming off the wire and odds are sooner or later this will be a vulnerable spot leaving the underlying cord exposed and prone to damage, sooner or later leading to the death of my mouse. Or the flip side I picked up a RAT7 and the cord is nearly indestructible but I ran into the infamous sensor problem on black mouse pads and ended up having to ditch my nice sleek gaming mouse pad for a cheapo $3 thick pad from Staples that irritates my skin but the mouse works fine.
As for keyboards, I really find that keyboards are pretty consistent across the board no matter which company you go with, just find what features interest you, and I highly recommend going to a store and feeling the actual keys. I know I prefer etched keys that aren't too sleek, because on hot days or cases where my hands won't be bone dry some key types can feel a bit slimy.

P.S. Also know what kind of grip you use on a mouse, if you don't use the gamer hold of 2nd on left mouse, middle finger on scroll, and 4th finger on right mouse some gaming mice really won't work well for you (especially the ones with the large gaps in the middle.) I personally hold my hand claw style, hand raised in an arch and 2nd and third fingers for the mouse buttons and shift hand to use the 2nd for the mouse wheel. And I found my hand getting cramped really easy on a lot of gaming mice.

Holy shit, re-read it. I'm kinda half asleep right now so this is unsurprising. I've been reading shit all day long and none of it is going in. I used this [http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/12134426/Razer-Deathadder-Re-Spawn-3-5G-Infrared-Gaming-Mouse/Product.html?searchtype=allproducts&searchsource=0&searchstring=razer+deathadder&urlrefer=search] for a while, and I enjoy FPS's. It's really good, still works today, but looking at that mouse you linked, it seems inferior unless you could find it for a cheaper price.

EDIT: Although the naga could be good if you wanna bind shit to change weapon, but most people are used to pressing keys by now, so that's not really game changing.

I used to think the same about gaming mice, then I got one, SOOOO much smoother and more accurate, also Logitech stuff is awesome, I have a G700, although I just an mx5500 keyboard as any keybaord will do just fine.

(both are wireless because I use a HDTV and sit on a sofa, but suffer no problems at all)

People seem to be talking down Razer but ive used a Boomslang SE mouse and Lycosa keyboard for the last three years and they've been nothing but awesome. Well made and awesome looking, a lil'bit pricey yeah, but im convinced its worth it.
I know exactly what you're talking about, but just saying they're awesome, kinda leaves me where I began "whats so good about it then?" so, if you could please, tell why its awesome and why its worth the price, even though its pricey. I mean, at this point, I'm almost convinced, they're cool in the sense Alienware is cool. Expensive as hell, has the power.. but you're mostly paying for looks.

Get a Logitech G9x. Keep your eyes peeled for a sale or open box item and you can snag them for USD30 or less.

They don't look as good, but I've found them to be more reliable.

For keyboard recommendations, Microsoft X6 Sidewinder.

I've got a Razer Diamondback, it's been good for four and a bit years, it's outlasted the family trackball mice, the Microsoft default mouse, and two keyboards.

I love it. I'd pay fifty dollars for another one.

Not to say I don't care, but I'm kinda set on the mouse I linked. Looking at the G9x, I see what you're saying, but I just think I'll like the other better. I kinda wished you had actually argued your point rather than just saying, "Get this, look for a sale." I mean, it conveyed a point, but I had to look it up on my own to understand why you think this is a good mouse. I'm not saying this isn't a good mouse either, it looks damn good, and very similar to the one I linked, I think I just prefer the one I linked. Thanks, I will look at this one.

EDIT: never mind, did you edit this while I was replying? oh well. like I said, I think I prefer the other. I've seen nothing to make me doubt the reliably of the other, and I'm reading reviews daily for something bad, and so far all I've seen is that the one I picked has a weird choice for the cord, otherwise, they say its extremely good.

Oh, I thought this was going to be about Razer from the Robot Wars tv show. I'm sad now.

Razer (the robot) was totally the best though.
