I'm more of a Logitech fanboy.
I have the Logitech G9x mouse and a Microsoft Sidewinder x6 Keyboard.
Zomg me too. PRO COMBO.

Clearly, this is fate. We should exchange all personal information.

I am getting a Steelseries mechanical keyboard and a laser gaming mouse one of these days.

I like them better than Razer.

I have a lachesis which I love to death, but thats a personal preference (it just fits my hand really good). But my 5:1 Barracuda headset is AMAZING, the surround sound is unbelievable (not a homecinema but still pretty darn good) and cuz I let everybody who visits my house try it I can have multiple people attest its pretty impressive.

Higher dpi means absolutely nothing
[Cough]bullshit[/Cough]

Higher DPI is EXTREMELY useful for accuracy when playing with high sensitivity, which again leads to decresed aim-time, with no sacrifice of accuracy.

Which again leads to a reduced chance of mouse-related injuries.

Beat that.

One thing I'm finding kinda odd is how those who support Razer also say higher DPI isn't needed...

I mean, I can see the logic in not needing a higher DPI, but I think I'd rather have too high and having wasted dpi than not being able to go up when I need it.

Another thing I find confusing is, "razer is really good, but extremely unreliable."

What?

if its unreliable, then how can it be good? can someone clarify?

Realistically not many people play with 5600 DPI, my mouse can go up to that and I don't use it, coz it's just way to fast. After a certain point (around 3500 DPI), it really doesn't help much to the average player. It's like how the latest Nike studs technology might give Lionel Messi the slight edge over his defender, but is near useless to the average joe playing football with his mates.

Yeah, I understand that for the most part, like I said, I'm kinda guy that would like to have the option to go that high, rather than be limited by the hardware. But I can understand that if you want to save money, and you know exactly at what speed you play (I don't know for sure, you see), then by all means, save money.

I say this whenever these threads come up. Go to your local Pound Shop (Or Dollar Store) and get something for a reasonable price. If they don't have it, get something second hand. It will come out much cheaper and will usually work just as well. I have a £1 microphone which works far better than the three £20 - £30 mics that a friend of mine has recently got through (they only lasted about 2 weeks each).

Eh, yeah, but... Wouldn't it seem that a mediocre mouse that lasts forever is better than a good mouse that lasts a year?
I mean, at 60$ a pop, I would like some durability, screw comfort, I'm interested in two things, performance and reliability, because you can adjust your preference if you stick with something long enough.

I know, I know, like I said, I'm going to stick with my original choice for the time being, if it ever does crap out, (chance are it won't but, you never know) that'll be the mouse I get.

Get a Logitech G9x. Keep your eyes peeled for a sale or open box item and you can snag them for USD30 or less.
Not to say I don't care, but I'm kinda set on the mouse I linked. Looking at the G9x, I see what you're saying, but I just think I'll like the other better. I kinda wished you had actually argued your point rather than just saying, "Get this, look for a sale." I mean, it conveyed a point, but I had to look it up on my own to understand why you think this is a good mouse. I'm not saying this isn't a good mouse either, it looks damn good, and very similar to the one I linked, I think I just prefer the one I linked. Thanks, I will look at this one.

EDIT: never mind, did you edit this while I was replying? oh well. like I said, I think I prefer the other. I've seen nothing to make me doubt the reliably of the other, and I'm reading reviews daily for something bad, and so far all I've seen is that the one I picked has a weird choice for the cord, otherwise, they say its extremely good.

Apart from features, gaming grade keyboards and mice usually have one other important thing above their generic counterparts:

They tend to last forever. I'm using the same G15 keyboard I bought about a month after they were released. Logitech and Razer (and even Microsoft) knows that we Gamers can sometimes mistreat our gear or get a bit rough with it. As a result, their gaming peripherals tend to be tough.

Good gameplan.

Do you own a Logitech product? Register it and Logitech will send you a 20% off coupon ( on your next Logitech store purchase ). After that, just keep your eyes peeled. The G9x's constantly go on sale as open box items. Open box?! Oh no! I don't want that! Well, thing is, three of my friends purchased open box items from Logitech and two of them claimed to have wound up with a brand new product.

Personally, I'm saving my coupon to purchase a G27 racing wheel when they come back in stock.

We're talkin ranges of 7200/5600/3500 here, not 400/800 like your shittiest optical mouse. My statement's broad but it covers the area of mouses we're interested in specifically (but not explicitly stated!).

I'm having difficulty with my 1600Dpi mouse to get the 24cm/360 I use (low sense player) without diving into the console occasionally, which is the case for the Call of Duty engine, the Quake engine and the Unreal Engine. knowing this I believe the equivalent sensitivity nets you like 4cm/360 on one of the absurdly high mouses. There's really no need to be that extremely sensitive at the lowest possible ingame sensitivity, since there's so much room for increasing it further. There are a few psychos running 1cm/360's but that's the tiny, tiny minority. As for the resolution concerns, the smallest division on the 1600 mouse at high sensitivity's something I can't be bothered to calculate, it'll be an insanely small movement on screen, probably less than a 10th of a pixel. The 7200 would be like 1/50th of a pixel. I don't believe any gamer, even the world's top, need this feature. The main one you have to overcome is the swipe speed issues, where it goes randomly in a tangent if you swipe too fast. Irrelevant for high sense, but for low sense it's vital. I've yet to get my Razer mouse to do this, I don't think I can swipe it enough. Another issue is in ergonomics, and laser mouses seem overbuilt. They got a crapton of buttons, weigh a lot and I was never a fan of extreme ergonomic design. Optical mouses can bypass this because they're very light.

The next issue you may arrive at is the minimum lift to stop it from tracking. I hear lasers are not the best at this, they are also the most finicky with the surface they're played on.

I'll stick with my optical, thanks.

I have a ROCCAT set, and the ROCCAT Kone is really good. Solid, stylish and comfortable. Their keyboards are crap though, so stay away. I have a logitech mouse that I don't know the name of, but I have always had good experiences with their products.

P.S. If you get a wired mouse, try the ROCCAT Apuri Mouse Bungee. Makes it feel like a wireless.

Awwwww........ I clicked this thinking it would be the first time in the history of the internet that I could post on a forum and say "HYPNODISK WAS BETTER!" without a thousand weird looks :(

One day there shall be a Robot Wars thread... :(

OT: As far as i can see, mice are mice. A good ball doesn't make a good player, and input devices are the same.

I stear clear of Razor, here its HORRIBLY over-priced for a mouse that glows with two side buttons. I get that from my Sidewinder X5 Mouse and it cost me a whole $45 and customizable with my X6 keyboard for bind etc IF I wanna get techy.
