If I had to chose I would get Guitar Hero because I only know of 2 songs in Rock Band and like 10-15 songs on Guitar Hero.

Worth it totally, unless you're looking to score achievements (on the 360) then you better be sure you have a friend.
I'd say it's a resounding yes. Though for full enjoyment atleast 3 people are needed. Though 6 works really nice with people tagging out at the end of each set. It makes a nice capper to a get together.
Though I prefer the game because most songs are someting near my vocal range. If you just want to do the singing part, and vs. even I recommend the Idol games if they have been release in your area, the songs in the american idol version did make me want to hammer tent stakes into my head though.

I played it once and found it pretty funny, but in the end I wondered why I should play a game like that if I have my real band just a few houses down the street.
