Is sniping over abundant these days?

I've only just began to notice that 7 out of 10 players of MW2 are snipers. (I can't speak for any other FPS games since I don't own/play any others online, I acknowledge that this may only be the case in MW2, so don't flame at me for my ignorance)Now back in the days of COD4 or before, sniping was an art practised by few, perfected by even less; no less than a profession. Nowadays every Joe Bloggs and his mother uses an Intervention all the time in order to look 'cool' or 'pro'
But this is, to me, quite detrimental to the gameplay as I can't walk two feet without getting claymored or sniped by 'xXUbaQu1ckSc0peMa5taXx' and it really tips the balance for me.
Is it the same on your system? In your game?
What are your opinions?

Yeahhhhh, snipers as in, jumping around and quickscoping like a ************.

Those people aren't snipers, they are retards.

(Also, if you 'hardscope', i.e., use the sniper rifle the way it was inteded, prepare to get flamed. Fucking MW2.)

Well, I play Battlefield 2142 on PC, and on there no, the sniper can be easily flushed out by the assault, and the assault gunned down by the support, so it's quite balanced. As for other games, I wholeheartedly agree, the open areas in Combat arms are NEVER safe. But I guess it's just the kit system that balances things.

Indeed. I hate those guys.

For actual snipers though, most of them aren't smart enough to move. So once they've killed you, you can see where they are and get revenge.

People play sniper because they can't be killed as easily from distance.

In fact in real wars snipers have the highest kill amount of any infantryman.

Well I like to play as a heavy in TF2 so snipers are the bane of my existence, but there is hardly an overabundance of them. Snipers also bother me in Bad Company 2 but it is mostly because of their C4. Though getting sniped out of a good position always sucks.

Overall Snipers only bother me because of the sudden instant death that goes with being on the wrong side of the bullet. However MW2 is the only game which I will call BS over it. Then again I have a host of problems with that game, so that isn't surprising.

Indeedy It is..

Most games dont really quite balance sniping out. Battlefield does a good job by making headshots the only way to Insta-kill, but the best job of sniper balancing is in Team Fortess 2, The charged shot mechanic means if you get killed by a sniper that sniper put in work to get you!

I know! I got flamed for hardscoping and it took me 10 mins for him to convince me he wasnt joking. Wow. Whats even more staggeringly unbelieable is when you watch your last two guys in search and destroy attempting to quick scope eachother for five mins when one hardscope could have finished it instantly. Why quickscope when hardscoping is BETTER in some situations. Is losing worse than not looking like a complete idiot? I couldnt agree more.

Bad Company 2 has 2 bolt actions that are ChestKill's but all the guns in that game suffer from bullet drop. and i get more kills with shotgun recon anyway (and C4!).

hence why MW2 is the bane of sanity.

All of these assholes that use sniper rifles at close range in MW2 should be forced to play ARMA 2. Have fun sniping when you have to deal with bullet drop!
but if they like sniping from close range wouldn't there be no bullet drop???

i like sniping from time to time it is pretty fun to line up that head shot. the best sniping i have ever had was BF:BC2 getting a head shot from a few hundred meters away accounting for bullet drop and everything it so satisfying

When you consider that ALL of the classes have very good range it's difficult not to be able to call any class a non-sniper class. Especially in 2142, the Support class' standard LMG is practically the most powerful and accurate beginning weapon choice.

In fact I've always hated the idea of sniping. I hated them ever since CoD 4.

Heck even since Enemy in the Gates.

When I use the sniper rifle I do the snipe move tactic which in a fast moving game like COD4 doesn't get me many points but my K/D is good which to me matters more.Maps are to small in COD to really snipe anyway.

Seeing as though most people on MW2 don't work as a team, this means that you must be your own best means of defense. If that would mean using a very powerful and accurate rifle, then so be it.

Soldiers shoot at the enemy, and hope they hit something. It is no fault of the soldier if he gets caught.
Snipers hit key enemies, and hopes he doesn't get spotted. It is entirely the fault of the sniper if he gets caught.

They only one hit kill in the chest if you're really close to the target though, not like across the map ala MW2.

And yes there is definetly way too many "snipers" these days. I loved the good all days of CoD4 where there was maybe 2 snipers tops in a team and they would use the actual sniper spots on the map. Now it's just running around, spinning like a kid with ADD hoping to get that "super leet" kill. Which really just makes you look like a lucky bastard, not skilled at all.

I've always said the thing I would most like in a game like CoD is for the sniper rifles to ONLY one hit kill if you get a headshot and for it to take at least two shots everywhere else. In other words a reward for being a good sniper.

The film Enemy at the Gates? Really? That's quite high on my list of films to see
