(Also, if you 'hardscope', i.e., use the sniper rifle the way it was inteded, prepare to get flamed. Fucking MW2.)
So just because they found a way to play that works they're retards?

I'm gonna go out against the majority of posts and say that in my MW2 experience sniping was not nearly as over abundent as people are making it out to be. I personally rarely snipe, expect on wasteland because it's simply built for it, and I find that while there are a few snipers per game on both teams, I'd never say that I regulary experience a game where it's overused. Too many people trying to snipe tends to create a sitution where the team is too static and not nearly as effective at close range (which is where the majoity of combat takes place) as it could be, and subquency lose if they try too many snipers.

If it makes a difference to playing experience though, I have the xbox version and play mostly Team Deathmatch as it's the only game type I can usually manage to get a lag free server on.

Sniping is pretty bad, but I've never had any problems taking them out in CoD4,5,6. In BC2 it gets pretty bad on rush when on offence. On a few occasions my team had really high k:d ratios but lost the game just cause everyone was at our spawn sniping the other spawn, and no one took the objective.

Indeedy It is..

Most games dont really quite balance sniping out. Battlefield does a good job by making headshots the only way to Insta-kill, but the best job of sniper balancing is in Team Fortess 2, The charged shot mechanic means if you get killed by a sniper that sniper put in work to get you!
This.
Except the huntsman, that thing can be used to instakill at point blank. I've seen snipers on my own team deliberately use it as a melee weapon.

I still maintain that ArmA, ArmA 2, and ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead are the cure for the common sniper.

- Kills take place at anywhere from 300m to a kilometer most of the time.
- Bullets obey the laws of physics.
- A sniper must know how to judge range using a rangefinder or the built in graduations on the scope.
- Wind affects the flight of the round downrange.
- There are no mechanics for quick scoping.
- Camoflague is actually useful.
- Skill is needed to actually acquire a target.

Considering MW2 leans more towards an Arcade shooter than an actual Realistc warfare game, much like Halo you have people using a sniper rifle and shorter ranges.

I agree it does get irritating watching those idiots running and jumping around like in idiot, much like Halo, but generally they are easy targets.

As for the whole "sniping in mw2 is horrible/unrealistic" you have to realise it leans towards more of an arcade fps, for the bullet drop crap, yeh it could have, but in comparison to bad company 2, the longest shots you will take in mw2, will be the shortest shots you take in bc2, meaning i doubt the overall ranges you would deal with would be affected by bullet drop, if at all, and yeh in mw2 you would be walking around with 15kg rifles and throwing them up and down, in comparison, why does bad company 2 lack sway/breathing?.

Just curious if you are ever firing as a sniper might be(over a kilometer for this to count just asking because you mentioned it) do you have to take the Coriolis effect into account like in real life or was that just a bit too far for realism?

Bah, snipers, don't get me started. To me, the major problem with snipers is that it's only fun for them. It's absolutely no fun at all to get killed by a sniper, because you didn't see it coming, and there was basically nothing you could have done about it.
If you get killed by a guy with an assault rifle, it was probably pretty close, and you at least had a chance to fire back before you went down. You might even laugh about it. No one ever laughed about getting sniped.

I love being a sniper in TF2 because it is more effective to "Hard scope". But Scouts, Spys and Pyros are pretty hard to defend against. I find that TF2 is probably the most balanced game out there.

That sounds more like a hunting game, and doesn't sound very fun.

spose it depends if you are on the pc or not for that. i.e snipers on pc will have a harder time generally due to the lack of autoaim hence less kills from shit shots. while the ones that can quick scope on pc will generally be very good at normal sniping and so shouldnt need to be engaging at short range.

The assholes running around quickscoping is ruining sniper's reputation as ranged killers. I was playing in a hardcore S&D lobby today and I was the last one alive, this is what the conversation sounded like.

Them: "Zero and Zero? Jesus Silver, you suck at sniping really."
"Why the fuck are you using Scavenger not Slight of Hand Pro?"
"Just kick him after this."

Friend: "Just wait for it..."

*BOOM... headshot, Boom... headshot, Boom... headshot, Click... Claymore*

Me: "Do I still suck at sniping?"

with the invention of Thermal Scopes in MW2 anyone can snipe unlike in Cod4 but i do think the BFBC2 way of sniping if much better with the head shot system and distance arcing cuz i love getting a 200+ Marksmanship headshot any day other than point and shot like in MW2

Why exactly are they retards? Camp sniping takes a HELL of a lot less skill than quick scopes and "run and gun" sniping. I find camp sniping incredibly boring too, but then again, I have testicles, so camping is pretty much cheating in my book.

More snipers? Yes.
Same elitist attitude from CoD1? Definitely. (Although the snipers of the now will never compare in smug to the non-scopers of every CoD WW2 game)

I know! I got flamed for hardscoping and it took me 10 mins for him to convince me he wasnt joking. Wow. Whats even more staggeringly unbelieable is when you watch your last two guys in search and destroy attempting to quick scope eachother for five mins when one hardscope could have finished it instantly. Why quickscope when hardscoping is BETTER in some situations. Is losing worse than not looking like a complete idiot? I couldnt agree more.
I quit mw2 a long time ago because 90% of the players are either little bitchy kids, or people obsessed with being "pro".

I hate the new breed of snipers but not snipers in general.

You see, im a sniper.

New breed: LOL, get close and noscope/quickscope

Old breed: Find a good spot at a distance and pick off targets one by one before repositioning.

I miss the days of actually having to aim at someones head.
