The ending dialogue between Stan's parents could be taken as Matt and Trey's current train of thought. They've been making this show since they were young, now they're grown ass men that maybe have outgrown this type of humor. Not to mention we, the fans being Stan, the cynical asshole that sees everything as shit, maybe the fans that grew up with the show's tastes are also changing.

If this IS the end after the next 7 episodes, it's been a great run and i'll be sad to see it go.

I couldn't care less if it has.
It's overstayed it's welcome for me. It got stale two seasons ago.
Not as badly needing a cancelling as The Simpsons is, though.

There is no such thing as 'too much Randy'. His ridiculous sub-plots make for some of the most hilarious South Park I've seen in a while.

Why the heck is not dead yet?

Good grief why won't the shows just die out naturally instead of living on as a shade of what they once were.
*looks at South Park*
*looks at Family Guy*
*looks at the Comedy Central and SciFi Chan-oh wait, no, the SyFy (pronounced "Sifee") Channel*

...Yeah, this is why my remote is dustier than the comedians on Comedy Central. Though you can argue this problem with a hell of a lot of other things. Even some highly anticipated games...

There has yet to be a bad episode of south park, in fact i'd go as far as to say every episode is better than the last and i'm a cynical asshole who thinks most things are shitty. South park will always work because the children's reactions to real life events is always a great send up of how adults with arrested development handle these situations.

I personally think that it is the best comedy cartoon maybe even tv show ever, each to their own, but don't call for shows to be cancelled as though you are the only person tv is for. I don't like a LOT of movies games tv, but would never try and stop other people enjoying them, thats a real asshole right there

Is there ANY show that has been going on as long as South Park (15 Years) that doesn't feel samey and monotonous?
Very few shows can last that long and not feel samey and monotonous it would be nice if they just moved on to something new. South Park has not been funny for over 10 years now it needs to hurry up and die.

They've been saying for a while that they're tired of the show, but they're still contractually obliged to make the final 7 episodes of the current season. I imagine they'll end the show after this final season.

I heard they have a contract till 2013.

But I do know Matt and Trey hate making South Park now so they might be preparing for the closer and just skimp out on the contract.

*Spit take*

I dare you to watch Stanley's Cup (2006) and not laugh.

Or the one immediately after that "With Apologies to Jesse Jackson"

or Over Logging or their 2008 election episode or hell their Tiger Woods episode.
OK OK. Its not consistently funny. 1 or 2 funny episodes a year does not make it a funny show.

Nah man, it's just many people have noticed and complained about how the show is feeling the same, and other things like too much Randy. So they called themselves on it. It's sorta a plot episode, dunno if this will be permanent but they're trying to shake things up from the monotony they have slipped into.

That said I found it a necessary but unfunny episode. Took one joke and beat it into the ground.

From what I heard, this episode was the mid-season finale for whatever reason. I don't think they are cancelling it yet though.

You people have strange ideas.

Being able to bring out some funny episodes per year is a much greater achievement than producing a completely funny season. IF it is your tenth season or even more, with basically the same layout.

Why?

Because thinking of new stuff and more new stuff with a limited amount of tools is hard! Much harder than inventing something "new" and establishing things. This is why sequels tend to be worse than part one. Because the beginning of a creative project get a huge boost from originality and the ability to introduce things.

But by now everyone has figured out that Cartman is a greedy asshole and Stan&Kyle are buddies. So why not shake things up? I urge all you naysayers to write better scripts for over a dozen seasons, with basically NO Characterchange (Chef doesn't count).

Is the 21th century really so smug that we can not understand the simplest problems of a creative person anymore?
