I don't know much about the workings of the film industry, but buying a few domain names (pennies to a massive company like Sony) doesn't really seem like serious evidence that a Bioshock movie is going to be made. It sounds more like some exec figured "hell, I guess on the off-chance we do make this thing, it'd be good to have the domain names already under our control."

I'm torn on this.

On one hand, I love the lore and story of BioShock and I'd love to see people explore this series a lot more in-depth.

On the other hand, video game-to-movie adaptations have a notorious track record of being even worse than the video game attempts of adapting movies. Even with a big name studio and some huge names behind it, there's always the lingering doubt that a big name like BioShock or The Last of Us is being used to abuse its IP for money rather than being given the attention they require to make such a venture work.

Sony PIctures is doing fine Bob, they just posted a large profit last quarter thanks to hits like Captain Phillips and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. They're not just relying on Spider-man, did you forget about James Bond? Their movie studio is one of Sony's healthier branches.
You are correct they are having success, but just like other companies they might not be considered successful enough. For "industry reaction" is being based on what happened in 2013 where they took a beating with several movies that weren't successful enough like White House Down and After Earth, in the same vein that Man of Steel wasn't successful for Warner because it didn't meet the $1 billion dollar predictions.

Here is the link to what Sony Pictures released in 2013 Link [http://www.boxofficemojo.com/studio/chart/?view=company&view2=calendar&timeframe=yty&yr=2013&studio=sony.htm]

But even with what looks to be a lot of profit, they are still fighting with a shareholder and cutting $100 million in spending, so I really wonder with the numbers they are showing how much of it is really profit?

Pretty sure Bioshock was a possibility a long time ago but then it got axed. So I'm not holding my breath for this one.
