I will be severely annoyed if it does. I've only just joined. ¬¬ Mind you, it does seem that way.

Have to wonder why they're advertising for new writers when they're struggling to pay the ones they have.
I was wondering the same thing. Hopefully the Escapist will figure something out.

Not true at all. Interplay used to be a big name in gaming, and now they're practically dead due to financial issues. It can happen to any business, regardless of how "big" they are.
Unless they are a bank (with non arrogant CEO who alienated the FED), then there will be a bailout by lunch time, if that long.

Its now become public knowledge that a whole lot of content providers have not been paid for months, even years.

I am sincerely worried that escapist might be going bankrupt? Do you guys think we should start a fund raising drive?
The Escapist can't be helped. Know how I know? Because I actually TRIED TO at one point (long before the EC debacle) and they didn't do a damn thing with it. No implementation of my clever scheme in any form, no response to my email to the editor, nothing. The Escapist is far too clever to accept help from others.

So here I am, waiting for the world to end with a Dr. Pepper. The Escapist is bright star about to go super nova.

Additional: You know, these 404 errors I'm seeing do nooot inspire confidence...
Do you think Themis Media is flaming out too? They seem to have only 2 webpages under them. And we all know the story of Rupert Murdoch and his media empire. Media just seems to be a shitty business to be in. I read somewhere that Escapist were saying that they never NOT PAY, they are just LATE and that there is a huge difference between the two. Doesn't bode well I would think.

maybe it'll be a volunteer thing, sort of like an unpaid internship so people can get into the industry

I am not going to participate in a fund raiser for a website that I go to mainly for zero punctuation...
I have enough trouble paying for school.

I dunno, they always keep us out of the loop on things regarding the Escapist. I had to read on other websites that Extra Credits was leaving here and with other series that are discontinued it isn't even mentioned, they just stop.

I guess that was sortof off topic, but if The escapist goes bankrupt I expect it simply to be ofline one day without warning.
Indeed, this is the only thing that really bothers me about the whole thing. That the Escapist isn't telling you anything of what goes on. I they would look better in the eyes of many if they just wrote a small little article that "Yes, Extra credits is leaving us due to a finical dispute, not what we wanted to happen, but there it is."

Be open about your situation Escapist. We wont hate you for it!

There's seems to be a direct correlation between the increase in pony avatars and the decline of the escapist. /semi joke.

2 years ago there were way less ads and the site ran much smoother. Now it takes forever for messages to post and it often results in double post, this is probably in part to the captcha system which really wasn't necessary and is often in languages and symbols that most can't understand let alone type. That along with random stories that have little if anything to do with gaming culture seem to make headlines more and more often.

That having been said its still better than most gaming sites despite its decline.

Oh we're back to here again.

The Escapist staff hasn't made any indication that they need express help. We don't need to go suggesting ways to save a website that hasn't said it needs saving. Leave this to the people who have all the information, The Escapist staff, and let them handle their own problems.

They're big boys and girls now.

they went bankrupt over 10 years ago when they flip flopped on Fallout 3 and chose to make Fallout: BOS on consoles. That move bankrupted them. The US only gives bailouts to huge companies that are viewed in a better light. Video games are considered nothing more than childrens' toys. No different from My Little Pony toys or G.I Joes.

They rather bail out a bank than what amounts to a wannabe Hasbro in the eyes of people over 30.

The fact is the Escapist has money issues, and even required donations. Hell Unforgotten Realms ended because they couldn't afford to pay Rob. Hell, Rob is STILL OWED MONEY and his show ended years ago.
At least I feel comforted knowing that crap like Jimquisition are at least, literally, free.

Maybe it's for the best if they are; This site is eating up my free time like crackers.

We'll see. In the end nothing lasts forever.

I'm worried about this site honestly. I come here for 3 things, Moviebob, Yahtzee, and the news. It used to be 4 things (Extra Credits). If they start cutting the other videos, then I'll have to start looking at different sites. And I imagine that I won't be alone.

The whole Extra Credits thing was a debacle, that was handled rather poorly and really shook my faith in the Escapist. That being said,I dont see the Escapist going anywhere anytime soon, I mean come on, they still have Yahtzee.

I think it has had financial issues for some time, just look at what we know:

- They have failed to pay many people hired for shows

&

- The mods allow for no criticism of the website which I have never come across on any other website. If you say an advert looks stupid, you get banned. This shows that they need these adverts so badly that they have to take a zero tolerance policy to criticism.

Both show that the website is not exactly swimming in cash....or someone is making a lot of money and not investing it.
