God, I hope not.
The day I'm forced to play with a bunch of strangers or not play at all is the day I quit gaming forever.
Forever or until they make a single player game again?
I imagine after quitting I'd probably stop paying attention.
So, I wouldn't know even if they did.

Yeah its not killing single player gaming, people have this weird misconception that short campaigns are evil, just because a campaign is short, dosent mean its bad. Take a look at some horrid RPG games, hundreds of single player hours, how many were fun?

I prefer single player to multiplayer. I like games that have excellent single player/story modes. Multiplayer is nice but I would sacrifice multiplayer for single player.

I guess gaming is evolving as uour technology evolves. Gaming is becoming more and more of a social thing and now that consloles can go online as well as PC's naturally people want to play with others who are into the same game. But I don't think the story mode of a game will ever die out, it's just another way of telling a story and there will always be storytellers that want to use the gaming medium.

I think this phenomenon really only applies to certain first person shooters. There are still plenty of games from other genres that have both excellent single-player campaigns as well as decent multiplayer options.

If you're hoping for a strong single-player campaign in the next Halo or Call of Duty, though... Don't count your chickens.

There's certainly more multiplayer than singleplayer in some games, the overused example being Modern Warfare 2. This is all due to the general public having much greater access to the internet than thought possible years ago.

But saying that Single Player Campaigns are going to get snuffed out, is ridiculous. Everyone who posted here already mentioned countless examples.

EDIT:Really i thought Modern Warfare 2 to have a much meatier storyline than the first. In all the games though, you can really tell when you triggered the next script, i found that a bit less in the latest installment.

I sure hope not.

Multiplayer is fun, but a good single-player is always better (to me). I hate short-single player campaigns because if they are good, I don't want them to end. When they end after a few hours, it bugs me.

I would quit video games if I they didn't have a single player anymore.
That being said, no, I don't think it'll diminish, it'll be like trying to read a book that hasn't gotten bound yet.
