Obviously ironic.

No, people legitimately enjoy the show.

Good writing, good animation, good characters, good humor, good voice acting, it's adorable, etc. The escapist group is three members away from having 500.

I really enjoy it...it reminds me of some of the better cartoon network stuff from back in the day.

Here, watch it for yourself.

Edit save? What in the world are you talking about? I wanted to get the picture in the thread as fast as possible with every intent of beefing up my post within the next minute. You best "edit save" your post.

I just watched the first episode purely for this thread. It's ok.

I thought there might be a painfully girly opening, like how some people react to Lucky Star the first time, but it wasn't.

It didn't seem stereotypical, it seemed to have a plot, characters of various styles, not an obvious toy seller, and didn't make me hate humanity like most "girl" shows do. If I had a child, from this one episode I can say I wouldn't mind them watching, regardless of gender.

And for some reason I feel less guilty watching this than the powerpuff girls.
Before this I didn't even need to be a fan to like all the pictures people have captioned from the show.

From what I've read here so far, the thread starter is either a troll or just doesn't like the show. Either way, we shouldn't try convincing him more. He already knows that we genuinely enjoy the show and that he should watch some episodes. If he really doesn't like them, he's free to go. If he's just trolling (and some posts here sound like that, but I could be wrong) it doesn't make sense convincing him anyway.

Well, bronies and non-bronies, until ontopm (that being the captcha down there)

Well I started off this show by getting linked to a song from it by a league of legends competition, then my friends sister linked me the episodes. So I can say that I, at least, had no previous knowledge of the show and actually enjoy it for what it is, which I assume most "bronies" do too.

It also spawned an awesome community which I love talking to, and some damn fine fan made stuff (fics, images, vids, etc.)

All in all, yes it really is that good.

I think people out there genuinely enjoy MLP. It's well-written/animated/voiced, homie us, and deeper than you might think. While I think that it is ironic that it's attracted a much wider audience than intended (twenty-something males who are not gay, for example), irony certainly isn't the reason why the craze started. It may not be the best show in the world, but it is very good considering it's premise.
I'm not sure why it's ironic that a good quality show is popular among people who are not necessarily its target audience. Avatar: the last airbender was aimed at 8-12 year olds, yet we don't find it ironic when adults express their appreciation of that.

Moreover, I'm not sure that we're that far outside the demographic being aimed at. The author has gone on record as saying that she makes games for little girls and their parents. Parents of young children are usually in their mid to late 20s, so it makes a lot of sense to make a show the whole family likes watching.

I also don't understand your point about gay people. I didn't understand gay adults to be a particularly expected demographic for the show. Might be missing something.

I laughed at the thought too, but like mentioned, I watched beyond the set-up episodes and was hooked. For a children's show, it's generally well-written and it just appeals on many different levels. I may be a brony, but I don't think I can submit to making my avatar pony related. As said before, the fascination at first was meant to be ironic, but it actually turned out to be a gem of daytime programming.

...Just see the other couple dozen threads there's been on this subject.
Also on a unrelated note: Your lack of punctuation and capitalization makes me rage!

I think it's a bit of both. MLP is not that bad (granted, I only saw the first two episodes), and can be funny...but I think some people might like it just to be ironic as well.

I derive enjoyment solely from being ironic. It's why I play Team Fortress 2 and League of Legends.

I kinda agree. It's a good show, which is why we like it. But we make such a big deal about it because the name of the show is My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I guarantee you if everyone ignored the previous generations of MLP, they changed the name, and this show premiered on Cartoon Network, not nearly as many people would care.
