Yeah basically what the title says. I'm think about buying one if I can afford one in the coming months, but is it worth it? Are there any games that I cannot live without playing?

I owned one, from day one, and you can quite easily live without ever playing a Vita game. I'd honestly save your money now and maybe pick one up down the line, after a price reduction.

Are there any games you want for it? If anything just wait for games you do want to come out and hopefully by then it will have a price drop.

Well yeah there are a few games I actually want to try for it, but as a system is it worth it, or does it seem like it's gonna kind of die over time and be an unused handheld sitting on my desk?

Is a system worth anything excluding the games? I use a cellphone for my traveling media needs so I only use handhelds for gaming. If you're going to use it for that it's worth it. If there are a few games you want for it there will only be more as it gets older. If the PSP didn't die the Vita won't, but whether or not you use it is up to you.

This guy thought it was worth it: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.395265-Just-got-a-Vita#16047079

Hard to say it is, if you have a PS3 and PS+ then at some point it's going to cross that threshhold. So far it seems a way off but I picked one up because the Black Friday deal was just that tempting.

It has the best version Virtue's Last Reward (you know, this year's GOTY) as well as Persona 4 Golden. Is that enough? I'd say no.

This. I just bought another PSP because the main thing I require out of a sony portable is access to the PS Classics. The only thing on the radar for the Vita for me is FFX. And that's been delayed or shelved or whatnot.

These portable systems, I think it's finally beginning to sink in for developers that there are a finite, indeed a rather small number of gametypes that work well on them. You cannot have a fighting game on a handheld at this stage of the game because the controls are too awkward. Assuming you're not a joystick pro, in which case you're totally screwed, the d-pad on a psp is sharp and will cut your thumb to ribbons if you try to input frame specific comboes.

So it's puzzle games, interactive novels, and RPGs. All of these are slow paced and can be paused or quicksaved at a moments notice in order to get on with whatever you were using the portable to distract you from in the first place. To a lesser extent adventure games work, but I find a large portion of adventure is seeing your environment, which can be difficult on a 3" screen.

I own one, and I'd probably say wait. Right now, at least for me, there aren't too many good games. I've maybe played it for 5 hours?

Honestly both the 3ds and the Vita are collecting dust at the moment on my shelves. The real problem with them is that the full sized consoles are directly competing with the handheld ones. Every time they release a spin off on the Vita one has to ask is it worth buying the spin off, or the actual game that it is spinning off from? So far reviews point to buying the original game that the spin off is based off of and my own experiences seem to be in agreement.

Going to say it outright though, the Vita is by far a MUCH better handheld design than the 3ds. Two thumbsticks does make a lot of difference and the Vita is just a lot more ergonomic. The console really could have lived without the rear touch pad, though.

My recommendation for games on the Vita is Uncharted, Gravity Rush, and Persona 4 the Golden. However, just be mindful that Gravity Rush does have some interesting control problems for timed events and the costumes are pretty much all DLC...

I agree that the Persona 4 is already enough reason for getting a Vita.
Even if it is not, I would still buy one because I want nintendo to not disappear like other Japanese game companies...

I bought Amazon's Black Friday PS Vita deal, and I think it's money well spent. Having the benefit of never playing a Sony system before, I instantly found over eighteen games I want to play. Six of those are Vita games, but two of them don't come out until next year. Now all I need to do is spend another $85 on the largest memory card.
