Is the traffic from ZP good or bad for the Escapist community?

Currently the traffic is good for the site but I have my own predictions on the forum reaching critical mass, where waves of trolls will emerge every time a moderator goes to bed.

I know I am definately here because of Zero Punctuation, although the push to join the forums was after watching all of Unforgotten Realms. ZP is still my main reason for browsing the site though.

I don't think that is really a bad thing, yes there may be hoardes of brainless oafs joining but there may be a particularly less-brainless oaf amongst them who turns out to be a decent member. If the staff are persistant and manage to weed out the annoying folk who join the sight to be silly then there will be a net gain of awesome for the community.

The traffic from ZP is great. It gives the masses of unwashed Channers a chance to see what the interweb can accomplish with a little scathing wit, some grammar and a reading level past grade 4.

I'm talking about the forums.

I didn't start posting on forums of any sort til i came to find this site (yes through zp.. )
The progression for me went that way but i dont understand the whole "first" crap someone further up the thread said somthing about a digital prize. Like plus 12 to Int or Stam somthing to that nature ?
And to answer the question imo of course because i can't speak for others zp brings all sorts of people to the site to say its a bad thing is kinda on the dumb side cause there are moderators that cast out all they don't see fit. Kinda like Spartans in a way.(only much less bloodshed)

I came for ZP but I stayed due largely in part to the incredible writers' community at User Reviews. I wander into Gaming Discussion and Off-Topic once in awhile, but UR is my home board.

I think ZP is doing exactly what it was designed to do. It is briging more people to The Escapist therefor upping their cash intake and allowing them to pay Yatzee even more.

Seriously, I found The Escapist looking for game reviews and stumbled across ZP. I Quietly sat back and watched ZP and laughed out loud from my office at work. I will agree that the people who have to be the very frist one to comment on each video are "Pants on head retarded" but hey, morons are attracted to foul language and gay jokes. Sadly the same people who must pop the comment cherry probably dont even get half the damned jokes.

Anyway i'm done now. But even reading through this thread it looks like The Escapist is enjoing a huge incress in readers just by adding ZP. All in all good for them!

I can definitely sympathize with those of you annoyed by these "first" callers. Though I'm new here, I've been on plenty of forums where the slightest event can incite a stream of annoying posts. However, I love Zero Punctuation, so I'm fine with putting up with a few dumbasses every Wednesday. Conveniently, I'll mostly only post on here Tuesdays and Wednesdays, anyways.

Well the grass is always greener on the other side. Unless you set fire to both sides of the field, along with all of the bunny rabbits.

What is this "ZP" and who is this mysterious "Croshaw" fellow you people speak of? Been here for years and never heard of him.

Of course, who would be here today without ZP having drawn them to the Escapist in the first place? (Cookies to you if you found it in another way.)
The question remains though, Erana, how did you happen upon this bastion of sanity and grammar?

[EDIT] That came off sounding more like an accusation than I thought. Still, the question stands.

As for myself (one more time!), I was looking up something Portal-related on Wikipedia. Damned if I know what it was anymore, but a line under "Critical reception" caught my eye:

Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, a reviewer known for his acerbic criticisms, stated in his Zero Punctuation series that he "can't think of any criticism for it".
Whether it was the fact Wikipedia called out one specific reviewer, or the fact that some guy's going around calling himself Yahtzee, I don't know what exactly, but something made me investigate further, and I liked what I found. At some point (April 23, a Wednesday), after some time skulking around in the shadows, I finally joined, and I like to think I haven't brought this place down too much.

So, is Zero Punctuation traffic good or bad for the community? As much as I hate parroting other people's answers, traffic means ad revenue, and money keeps the community open. Those who don't seem to have grasped this forum is different from the rest are shown the door, either of their own accord (bored and don't come back) or by force (banned). I say, so long as the BanHammer[sup]TM[/sup] remains effective, and the community is good about their use of that big red "report" button, Zero Punctuation traffic is perfectly fine.

I too am another person who was lured here by Yahtzee's siren call of hilarious rants, and I joined the forum mainly to comment on a topic I saw on the side while watching his reviews. I kinda left it alone for a few months, but I came back to it and haven't stopped this time around. And for someone who's attention span for a forum tends to be about a week before I move on to something else, that is saying something. This is, in my humble opinion, the best site for posting ideas and getting honest-to-god intelligent feedback on them on the net, and as long as the idiots keep getting smited by the BanHammer, it'll still remain a top-notch site.

Who would be here without him?

Sure some people found this site by other means like a friend told them or a google search or a link. But you still wouldn't know if the friend that told you didn't watch ZP, or the large abount of people coming to this site hadn't made the escapist move up in the search list.

If you remove ZP a fair abount of people will stay, but if he was never here I doubt the site would have grown so much so quickly. The mods thin out the crazys and keep everything ok for the forums.

I think the traffic ZP brings is a good thing for the site.

I wouldn't have been here if it hadn't been for ZP. But now I would stay even if ZP stopped. This place is unlike any other Internet forum I've ever seen.

Like many people I too was drawn here by Zero Punctuation after someone reccommended it. I've been a lurker for a a number of months as opposed to simply spamming. Then I decided to join the forums and see how it goes.

In the end idiots will always stumble into a house of intellectuality and have their brains fried into a fine goo by radiant intelligence.

I came originally to the Escapist because of ZP, but I came to the forums because a friend told me about it.
I tend to avoid the forums on Wednesdays. But today I'm in a boring class and refreshing Facebook just doesn't do anything for me anymore.
