Quite a few of my freinds are swapping from 360 to Ps3..

However, i'm the opposite.. I have been considering buying a 360 since my Ps3 has been having a few problems (Mainly after the y2k) but it seems to have fixed itself..
y2k? everything THIS GEN is post y2k...
Did you not her about the 1st of March bug on old fat Ps3's?
They were programmed to have a leap-year in 2010 and it messed them up..

People were saying it was y2k all over again.. so its just easier to say that.

not when a fuck ton of games are being released for it, and exclusive ones too. Sure it's not the most robust piece of hardware but it does the job, is relatively cheap now and comes with the essentials, not to mention Natal is releasing at the end of the year I think. It will last some more years yet before needing a re-hash. FF 13 comes on 3 discs, what's the problem?

I really dont care about consoles but about the games, hence why I bought a 360 (actually did it for oblivion and the prospect of halo 3)
Still not a fan of the ps3 exclusives and after gears of war and mass effect I knew I made the right choice.
I am all for multi platform games though (woot assassins creed 2 and borderlands to name a few for this...err last year)

I use my 360 far less since I bought a Slim PS3. But it's recently been re-connected to my tv to play some portal and GTA IV. Missed them so much...

I wouldn't say it's on the decline, however I have noticed many more people at my school are swapping in their 360 for the PS3.

I remember the PS2 took a while to get off the ground, maybe its just the same cycle repeating itself. The only time I think we shall see the 360 go into a true decline is with the over-hype of Natal, which will inevitably happen.

Well my cousin is going to be getting a 7th gen console soon and asked me for advice since I owned both an Xbox 360 and a PS3. I recommended him to get PS3 Fat instead for a variety of reasons:

-You could buy a 2nd hand PS3 and still be confident about reliability
-RROD is something I may be able to deal with but likely for my uncle it would be too much hassle for them,
-Sony promises a 10-year life cycle (and it looks like they mean it) for PS3 so they'll get their money's worth out to 2016. Microsoft could drop the 360 in 1-2 years leaving my cousin high and dry.
-I was of the opinion it had a better line-up of exclusive games* (multi-plat for PC)
-it was more flexible to upgrade with hard-drive capacity (also use any third party controller)
-The Play-TV peripheral would be good for teh family
-Blu-ray would be nice too for future proofing
-the browser interface is very useful (their house only has 1 computer + I could install Linux for them)
-No annual fees to get online and significantly less of verbal abuse on PSN online is a plus
-smaller controller, also more familiar to a long term PS2 fan (tilt is also handy in a few titles)
-Wider range of backwards compatibility (with proposed 60GB model)

The line-up of games would probably please my auntie since my cousin is only 11 years old and games like Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank are much more appropriate than Gears of War and GTA4. I personally think he's mature enough to chainsaw locusts in half but... I know my auntie doesn't feel that way.

Also, my cousin played Motorstorm and LOVES that insane dirt racing but sim racing like Forza and PGR don't interest him so much. Also likes Wipeout, I have no idea why Microsoft focuses on sim-racing so much and doesn't have anything to counter the more insane racing seen on PS3 and also the insane mario-kart style Wii racing.

So yeah, PS3 fits much better into the family environment, and this is just my opinion but I think the Playstation Move will be a better motion toolset than Natal.

Admittedly, when I got my own Xbox 360 it was a rather superfluous purchase as the majority of my gaming is on PC, then PS3 after that and then only a handful of games I really want to play on 360, roughly 3-4 games per year compared to 8-9 PS3 games per year and 12+ PC games per year get onto my wish-list. I only got a cheap ass Arcade model and never paid of Gold Membership.

I WOULD have recommended an Xbox 360 before but many of it's positive features are lost:
-the HD output via VGA kinda became a redundant feature when they got a HDTV
-360 may have had the edge on multi-plat titles but graphics are getting better (many multi-plat games are better on PS3 than 360 now i.e. Darksiders, The Saboteur) and I'm helping them build a new PC fit for PC gaming = takes the multi-plat crown

First off... no exclusives? What about, Gears of War 1 & 2, Dead Rising, Halo 3, Halo: ODST, Halo Wars, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Command and Conquer 3, Crackdown, Lost Odyssey, The Last Remnant and Fable 2?

Splosion man? Now that right there is a reason to buy the xbox alone.

All good games are on the PS3, surely that is your opinion and not fact.

RROD is hardly a factor any more, I don't know anyone who's current Xbox has red ringed, and the fact that forums are hardly ablaze with threads about it, so I doubt its a factor any more.
O rly?
All those ones I bolded are on PC.
And isnt Command and Conquer 3 on PS3 too?

I dont think it's the 360 thats going in a decline, I think it's the wii. Everyone I that has a wii wants to sell to get a 360 or PS3. The only problem is that it's impossible to sell it for a good price because everyone else doesn't want a wii either.

No, just like with the PS3 and nintendo wii most gamers have a console now and you don't need 2 of the same console. So the amount of XBOX's being sold will have reduced but the same could be said for the PS3.

Who cares if they're available on computers? The whole idea of exclusive games is that it makes one console looks better than the other, P.C.'s aren't in the competition.

Who cares about computers... um last time i checked a pc can be counted as a gaming platform just as the cbox, Ps3 and the Wii are. So yer, P.C.s are in the competion, we do get exlusives as well.

Also the last remminant is also on pc.

Apart from Infamous, I was really disappointed by the PS3 exclusives since getting it in December and playing most of the high quality games. I still play my 360 more and would rather get multi platform games on it.
TBH the exlusives issue for PS3 has never been a big deal to me, any game thats at all decent is on all systems, the few thats exlusive has a clone on the other and most of the 360's 'exclusives' are on PC (and having a good rig means I can play them fine).
So between my PC and PS3 I can play every game I want.
Also the PS3 is more of an entertainment system to me, I use it for movie playing as much as gaming.

I entirely disagree. I've seen more 360s brought and used in the past 6 months than I have seen PS3s sold in a year. While Sony is FINALLY bringing out some decent games, it still lacks substance.

People rag on about the 360 hardware, but the PS3 suffers the same as any other. The Cell is certainly more advanced, but everything else is ageing just as much as every other piece of hardware.

The thing that everyone I know and myself find is that the PS3 is pretty one-dimensional. It plays games. The online service isn't great (though it is free), and the videos/content etc. are hugely underdeveloped in comparison with LIVE's. Aside from the occasional spell on LBP, I rarely use my PS3 anymore. As a blu-ray and DVD player, yeah, but that's not a selling point anymore, now that blu-ray players are reasonable prices.

If anything, I'd say the entire market is slowing. This generation seems to be fading out, which isn't a good sign, since we still have 4-5 years until the next gen.

Here's hoping OnLive takes off...

Wow, learn to spell.

The PC is a computer, not a console. It's a platform, but it's not part of the console wars. The fact that games are exclusive to consoles doesn't mean it isn't on the PC. Hell, the only reason PS3 games aren't always ported to the PC is because blu-ray hasn't become standardised on PCs as of yet.

Personally, I have played both my Xbox and my PS3 in equal amounts of late, which is actually saying something positive for the PS3. Rather than say the Xbox is on the decline, I would say the PS3 is on the rise. Xbox doesn't have to be declining for this to happen.

The PS3 is finally getting legs as far as good exclusive games go. Last fall there was Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank and Demon's Souls. Those were followed closely by Heavy Rain and God of War 3 both of which I pre-ordered.

In my experience, it is unusual for me to be picking up so many exclusives for the PS3. I just think the PS3 is finally filling out their catalog of games is all. But that doesn't mean the Xbox isn't being used in my house. I love ME2 and I would have had to get another Xbox to play it if mine had died. (I don't have a PC that would satisfy my graphical needs at the moment.)
